Nokia and AT&T offering $10 million in application development contest

General

Today, AT&T and Nokia announced the “Calling All Innovators” contest for developers. The contests goal is to get more North American-centric applications into the Nokia ecosystem. Oh, and if your application happens to be picked by AT&T and Nokia as a winner… there is a cool $10 million in cash and prizes waiting to be given out. “Developers have until January 28th, 2011, to submit their applications in more than 17 categories. [...] Category prize winners receive USD 150K each for a total of USD 4 million and grand prize winners receive an additional USD 100K each. Although submissions must be relevant for the North American consumer, developers from around the world can participate.” So, if you’ve got some ill development skills, and want to take a swing at Qt, here is your chance to be paid for your efforts. Good luck.

Who wants to develop for symbian… *crickets*

    Wake up Nokia! Get android.

For the the $$$$ prizes they are giving out, I wouild

With about 95% of all mobile applications being pointless, utterly useless and a waste of time regardless of their OS Platform, why not develop another ultimately useless app and have a chance to grab a bag OF cash.

      You’d be stupid not too.

    LOL. I agree.

  • techjunkieforlife

Wonder what Nokia phones AT&T is picking up to make this worth while

      N9?

      • JK

        Or maybe the E7.

Either way, they’ll load it with crapware as the the carriers always like to do.

At least it won’t have Touch Wiz.

well the common analysis is n8 or c6-01. maybe both or why not the whole symbian**3 lineup. The nokia blog did some analysis on the rules and they are guessing it would be c6-01, because of the cheaper price than n8.

I can only see that the winners will end up using the prize money to port apps over to Android and iOS, earning them even more money, and further make Nokia’s Symbian redundant.

      Absolutely!

We can never have enough fart & burp apps!

  • RAS

Ironic that they chose to use a pic of the very device hay drove me away from Nokia for good.

    • Downtown Clown

I think you can thank BGR instead. They chose the pic.

I am going to enter a 2 in 1 app: 1) part Translator, 2) part Fart App. You fart in your phone in English and it will sound it back out in Finnish, or vice versa.

Now to figure out how I am going to spend my $10 mil.

    • Downtown Clown

      Why not!

Fart Apps have proven to be a cash cow in the mobile app biz.

I like the idea of a fart app utilizing the gps so you can actually track the farts.

That could be a big cross platform seller.

    Dear Nokia,

Americans don’t like your OS. It’s old. It’s crappy. ITS SYMBIAN!

Please, leave our country and take your outdated business away from the users who enjoy their Androids and iPhones. We no longer need your shit.

    PS: IM RICK JAMES BITCH!

    • Jerry1ken

Funny the rest of the world feels the same about Americans! Ha ha ha

  • mark cox

nokia, the phone that stands out from the rest.

    • variaatio

Seems like the ultimate app for any mobile phone would be the one that magically dries out the phone and restores it to normal operation after getting wet…
