10-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab slated for first half of 2011

General

According to Gary Twohig, manager of Samsung Mobile in Ireland, a 10-inch iteration of the company’s Galaxy Tab. Silicon Republic is reporting that Twohig, “revealed that Samsung is preparing to launch a 10-inch version of the Galaxy Tab by the first half of 2011 which will also come with Android and a V8 Javascript engine.” This is obviously great news for those who like the idea of the Gally Tab, but would prefer just a tad-bit more screen real estate. Anyone previously turned off by the 7-inch window on the Galaxy Tab excited by the possibility of a 10-inch model?

I like the idea of both sizes. I’m more concerned about the price and availability.

Yep my first thought was price. Im very interested in the 10 incher but considering pricing of the 7″ im wondering if the 10″ without data will top that of the iPad

  • Snax

    Absolutely. Color me excited.

If it is as expensive or more expensive than the current Galaxy S = Colossal fail

    • Creamy Tuna Casserole

Why would you even expect it to not be more expensive than any current Galaxy S phone? To not think that is what you would consider a “colossal fail.”

      • mike

basically cuz the iPad is cheaper than an iPhone!!! lol

  • iAMROCK

Hell yeah I was crossing my fingers I love the galaxy s series captivate and wanted to get the tab but 7 inches after the ipad seemed so small now the 10inch Samsung tab is going g to be the game changer. Can’t wait hope they give an HDMI out too

  • MacMan

I really can’t wait to see some douche go around taking pictures with his tablet. Btw I don’t think it’s going to fit in the back pocket.

  • SOUTHERN MISS ELITE

    Bezel seems kinda large.

And does this have the most simplest media output of all? A USB port?

Don’t worry. It will be more expensive than any version of the iPad without a subsidy from the carriers. And I bet it will FAIL because you have to get yet another 2 year contract.

  • Attila434AD

the 1st to come out always ween.
    go wait for next year…….

  • Donkadooballs

@macman I cant wait to take pics with my tab and stick it in my back pocket! Btw Im a clown.

samsung tab + gingerbread or honeycomb = profit?

    • Jarrett

Well, profit is the reason people make and sell products.

  • Jarrett

First, can we get some pricing for the 7in Galaxy Tab? Then we can worry about the 10in. My guess is the 7in will be $700 before subsidy (if not more) and $500 after subsidy. Those are the cheap prices if Samsung isn’t out to turn a profit on the product.
    10in??? $1,000 (more?)

that right there is pure speculation. okay, maybe educated speculation. but speculation non the less. and speculation is the job of andrew munchbach and the other bloggers, not yours. too many “speculations” in one paragraph. sorry.

i doubt that 3in extra would double the price of the tablet. maybe they’ll slap an extra $200 on the tag. and considering the extra features, i would way rather buy a $700 galaxy tab than a $500 ipad (now of course my view would change once the second generation ipad shows with usb and a ffc.)

10 inches seems kinda too big (judging from the iPad) and 7 inches is too small.. they should have went somewhere between 8 and 9 inches. But not ruling anything out until I try it out (or hear a price) because I could be wrong

  • PAPINYC

    I’m happy with my flacid 7″ !

  • Bob

I would definitely get this if it was priced right. If it is any more than an iPad then forget it. I already think the iPad is over priced. Devices using Android were supposed to be a lot cheaper because they don’t have as much overhead with creating an OS from scratch.

  • hawk

Totally excited, but all these pads and tabs need a slide out keyboard.

  • jesus

I want to know if the 7″ will be able to upgrade to OS3.0 when it’s release.

This isn’t a sentence. I mean, I know that this is a blog, but come on.

I think I would incline toward the larger model, but I will definately take a look at the earlier release. I have a kindle 1, kindle 2 and a kindle dx. The K2 is roughly 7.5 and the DX 10.5, so its an apt if limited comparison. FWIW, I prefer the DX for the obvious reasons, the ability to display more info on a single screen and to bump up the font-size, and I don’t mind the additional weight or bulk of the DX. Even the larger cell phones are reaching the borders of what can be comfortably carried in a pocket or in a case. So by defintion, a tablet is going to be something you’re mostly going to be carrying around with you in your hand, like a folded newspaper. I was never one who sacrificed screen space or processing power in a laptop just for a thinner profile or lighter feel. Even the sleekest has to be held onto, and be watched when you put it down so it isn’t damaged. So, in for a penny, in for a pound, give me size and speed and power until it becomes unmanageable.

I just want 1024×768 resolution at a minimum so all my flash games stop getting cut off at the bottom. I can’t stand the resolution on my netbook. Other than that, I love the form factor. Yeah. A 10 incher with a minimum of 1024×768 would be awesome
