Microsoft: All 5 major UK wireless providers will carry Windows Phone 7 devices at launch

General

Today, Microsoft announced that all five major UK wireless carriers — Orange, O2, T-Mobile, Three, and Vodafone — will be carrying handsets that run the Windows Phone 7 operating system. “It is wonderful now to have all of the UK’s network operators supporting the launch of Windows Phone 7,” said Alex Reeve, Microsoft UK’s director of the Mobile Business Group. We know plenty about the “who,” what we really want to know is the “when.”

And all new Win Phone 7 customers on those carriers will not be able to multi-task or copy/paste.

    • MadSkillz

The iPhone proved multi-tasking nor cut and paste is the determining factor for the success of a phone. That rant is so 2007.

Microsoft is trying hard to get a new handheld OS right, and if a thoughtful/methodical layering of capabilities allows them to get it RIGHT. Then by all means go for it M$. People prefer few functions that work RIGHT, than a clustF*&@K of features that confuse. That was the original problem with Smartphones. Apparently Microsoft is learning from their mistakes.

As for the launch. I think Microsoft is employing a really good strategy by having available Win7 phones on all the carriers on the same day. I know a few companies -cough- Apple, -cough- Palm, that need to follow suit.

        - Microsoft is not launching on all carriers in America. ONLY AT&T ..and Apple and Palm do have multiple carries in UK. So I guess Microsoft is a little too late. Maybe they could have a second “bury the competition” parade when they are all out of job ;-)

You think MS will fix the bug before launch where some of the words for the menus don’t fit on the screen?

    • d-range

You’re probably being sarcastic, but I’ll bite anyway: that’s not a bug, it’s a feature.

      • Bill G-string

But..but…how can it be a feature when i can’t read the full word? And why are those boxes left aligned and not extend to the full screen? weird. Also, the “phone” box is at the top of the screen, if I am scrolling down to the bottom of the screen..in order for me to make a call, I would have to scroll ALL THE WAY up! that’s crazy…

      • david

        Probably being sarcastic?!

  • Mohammad

ms is back on the game.

    • Puerco Fan

The only game MS has ever known is distributing defective products. So I’d say, they still got it!!!

  • sean.

    minus the copy

  • droidwww

    minus the multi-tasking

  • Jane

    minus 4 years too late

    • bob

minus the most butt ugly launcher ever conceived

  • DonnyKerabatsos

Androids copy and paste still lacks the ability to grab text off of a website so maybe they need to catch up to Apple as well. They may have been late to the copy/paste game, but they at least got it right. It looks like that is what M$ is doing too, rather than rush out stuff that no one gets like with Android.

    • Billy Babs

I guess that is why Android is outselling iOS. Well it probably helps that Android devices and get reception, unlike Apple.

      • Mgl

Outselling in what? sales? Android just has a greater market share than iOS. In fact, iOS outsells Android in total.

  • Billmore

Honestly, comparing to Android and iPhone, there isn’t a feature that is mind blowing. It’s just another smartphone with a different UI. I know microsoft fan will argue that they have integrated xbox…I really don’t care if that’s the case as I am not one of those xbox fan.

  • navi

very nice phone!! although i think the icons on the UI look horrible with all that blue behind it. too much wasted space. my2pennies.

  • Mr.Bill

Can’t wait to see these in person.

Rather stick to the Devil I know, then a new or fruity version.

Seeing as I have no issues with their older works, I suspect this is going to feel without the same level of depth at first.

Though with XDA an the dev gods out there, it won’t be long before we’re really cooking with it elbow deep.

  • MicroZuneBox360

Microsoft really has stepped their game up not only is Windows 7 doing good but the Xbox 360 has been selling more than the competition and they still have kinect to launch. They just need a Zune HD2?
