Motorola DROID 2 World Edition clocked at 1.2 GHz?

General

Earlier this morning, blog Droid-Life posted images of the Motorola DROID 2 World Edition. The pictures were, to be blunt, not all that interesting; the device looks nearly identical to the DROID 2 currently shipping. What is most interesting, however, is the fact that benchmarks from the DROID 2 WE indicate that the unit’s processor is clocked at 1.2 GHz. For those of you keeping score at home: that’s a full 200 megahertz higher than the model currently shipping. Pretty sultry stuff from the DROID 2. What do you think?

That phone just keep getting better and better.

BGR you should change your links at the top to put Android before Apple.

I want so badly for a general tech site to acknowledge android more than apple, and let’s face it, you post more articles about android almost 10 fold.

    • JerseyGuy

Kyle – I totally agree!! At least it will be alphabetical.

      • John

Um, think about this for a second.

There are multiple carriers and manufacturers supporting Android, with new phones and devices being released weekly, and new announcements daily.

You have one carrier, one manufacturer, and a yearly refresh cycle for the iPhone.

Why the hell would there be even coverage when clearly there is 10x more news coming out on the Android front?

      • kyle

        I don’t understand…do you disagree with what I said?

More news ==> More coverage ==> more important/relevant ==> higher up on the list…right?

    • Joe B.

They put so much Apple related news on this site as well anyone that thinks BGR is all Android is ridiculous. They’ve went as far to review cases for Iphones…Cases People!

  • ROCKIN A DX!

    Niiiiiiice!

  • Monique

same form factor but different color…the Droid 2 WE is white (well the back casing is white)….

  • Matty Mcfly

I think I just jizzed in my pants…I’m switching to verizon

  • Swagger

I would wait for the MOTO Droid 2 World Edition Incredible X that’s going to be released next month. That one is going to be the Boba Fett edition.

  • aNYthing

I’d be pissed if I was the owner of a normal Droid 2.

    • The_Omega_Man

Why? My Droid 2 Works Great! 200 mhz won’t make a noticeable difference in performance, UNLESS they enable 720p Video Recording with this phone. Then I would be pissed! LOL

  • VZWer

    @ aNYthing sux for you!

  • DonnyKerabatsos

I was getting worried for a minute because there was an abnormal drought of Verizon related news. I think at least 3 stories non Verizon in a row?!?!?!

    • Swagger

Lol. I was thinking the same think. Frankly I was scared, three non VZ stories in a row on BGR? I thought the end of the world is supposed to be in 2012.

      • DonnyKerabatsos

It was actually 5 whole stories. Something is up…..maybe VZW is in trouble?

    • Bob in LA

Verizon had to change hands. Operating all those finger-puppets at near hysteria-level breathless excitement is tiring.

      • WalterSobchak

Man, what did you guys have to piss and moan about from 9:48 to 2:25?

      • Swagger

Oh great, its Walterrrrr. Is your shift at the local mall VZW kiosk done already?

      • WalterSobchak

I don’t have a job. Those are for suckers!

  • Ibby

Very NICE! But it’s just to bad Motorola kept the 3.7″ screen and not 4″ + for the Droid 2 WE :/

  • grrr

    Speedy moto.

I’ll skip this non-lte droid and wait for one that is.

  • viper1549

lol 1.2 aint shit im running that on my droid one as i type this..

wait for the 4.3 HTC.. expecting 1.3-1.5.. thats the real deal :)

and if for some reason moto surprises us with a 2 ghz but doubt it (this year anyway)

    • The_Omega_Man

      Dual Cores @ 1Ghz ;-)

  • Bob in LA

Regarding 1.2Ghz: the rumor mill was previously touting 1.3Ghz. Is the CPU manufacturer unable to get enough yield in the 1.3Ghz bin? Did Moto have to drop back to using 1.2Ghz to obtain sufficient quantities for product roll-out??

  • Bernie

Any speculation as to when this will be released?

    So many choices from VZW!

This may be my next phone until someone leaks the next big thing tomorrow or the next day. Then I will want that. My upgrade is just around the corner….Choices….Choices…Choices……

  • EggoEspada

I don’t get why the original Droid 2 was released if this is the case. All they’re doing is pissing off people who bought the Droid 2. This is way more worthy of being the 2nd gen Droid..

    • The_Omega_Man

If there are no other changes besides the case colors, the GSM radio and the 200 Mhz faster processor, then most Droid 2 owners will not mind. Now if this is pure Google OS and not “It’s not Moto-Blur, Blur,” Then yea, they would be pissed.

  • JAG

    Nice, beatiful song

  • I told you so.com

thats nothing new my palm pre is clocked at 1.2ghz and has been so for 6 months. Same ole android nonsense, same type of phones nothing innovated about the OS or the phone. The next Hpalm phones will be stock 1.5 with the hombrew community already on standby to overclock it to 2.2ghz. Hpalm 2 billion investment into Webos production the #1 computer company in the world….=WEBOS the future.

    • The_Omega_Man

“The next,” “will be,” and “on standby to!” Let us know when those 1.5 ghz phones actually arrive, Android phones will be on the A15 platform and Tegra 3s by then.

Unfortunately the is now official date when it will be released..

  • bluehorseshoe

Seriously, phone manufacturers need to concentrate on the battery life more so with all the power increases taking place. The step up in speed is nice, but if I can’t get through a day of heavy use, the device becomes frustrating.

  • Jamin

I wish there was a release date
