Google really need to put its foot down about these OEM’s putting these skins over Android. No matter how great people think “non-sense” or “moto-bloat” is (we wont even talk about Samsungs “douch-fiz”) It is one of the key reasons for fragmentation.

    • YourPointingInTheWrongDirection

skins have nothing to do with fragmentation. It’s the developer of the OS whose responsible for that. When you have multiple device makers and no uniform set of minimum specs, you get fragmentation. GOOGLE is the culprit when it comes to that. When the next major update is released, hopefully Android will introduce those minimum device specs and once a lot of the current gen of devices or EOL, then you’ll see some defragmentation.

^^^^ EDIT: skins have nothing to do with fragmentation. It’s the developer of the OS whose responsible for that. When you have multiple device makers and no uniform set of minimum specs, you get fragmentation. GOOGLE is the culprit when it comes to that. When the next major update is released, it’s hoped that Android will introduce those minimum device specs. Once most of the current gen of devices are EOL, then you’ll see some defragmentation. Google, not the device maker, needs to take a more uniform path of updating devices as well, regardless of carriers. When an update is being prepared, it should be prepared for all Android users, not one device here, one device there. This is ALL GOOGLE’S FAULT.

      • kyle

Uh…No it’s not google’s fault. The reason it takes manufacturers so long to update their phones to the latest OS is BECAUSE of the skins they put on there. Google rolls out software, and their devices SHOULD adapt to it, but they don’t because of the stupid skins put on top of android.

When you talk of making an update for “1 device here, 1 device there” I bet your directly referencing the Nexus 1. Let’s see, Nexus 1 got the 2.2 update first, suspicious right? Oh wait, it was stock Vanilla android running 2.1 with more than decent hardware specs. Not surprising at all it got the update first. The original Droid was slower to update because it was OLDER hardware with less umph because the processor and needed testing. The OEMs have to keep up with the SOFTWARE, not the other way around. Can you imagine if Google was trying to keep up with the hardware with their OS? Yeah, it makes no sense.

Based on your name along with your post, it must be opposites day. Well then let me just say “nice post”, you’re an “android guru”.

  • burnett

If android didnt look so raw we wouldnt have to worry about HTC stepping in. I like what they have done and wish Google would adopt something similar and implement it across the board on 3.0. If only they would have bought Palm and used their intuitive interface and colorful graphics, i’d be a happy camper.

  • David

AT&T needs to hop on board and snag this phone up. The Captivate is nice, but I’ve been desperate for a high powered HTC Android, and the Aria is not cutting it.

    • Scott

I agree David. I had the Captivate. Nice phone, but too many bugs and lagged compared to the other Galaxy S phones.

I suggest you e-mail AT&T and request this phone and threaten to leave if they don’t get it. I did that and got an e-mail back a day later saying that my request for the phone has been sent to their team.

I figure the more that their customers do this, the greater the chance they’ll actually get it!

    • gquaglia

Agreed, this blows away the iphone on so many levels. I have the Aria now and want this so bad! I just have a feeling ATT will fuck us and pass on this device as long as they have the long in the tooth iphone.

      • Darwin

It doesn’t even remotely “blow away” the iPhone. Both phones have their strengths and weaknesses.

  • Mason

However I disagree with the android guru. If the skin can add usability then it is ok. In my opinion, HTC Sense offers a better experience and more additional features that are useful. HTC Sense is more of a program than a visual skin which I believe the other manufacturers are doing which does not make any sense.

  • seth

agree with mason . i love htc sense the new options are gonna be great. but it should be user choice to go stock or htc sense.if i don’t want it i should b able to turn it off, but i do want it .

  • Kevmo

Does anyone find it interesting that they have a man with an American accent do the voice over for a phone that is supposedly not going to be released here? Maybe we can hope after all?

    • Brandon

Remembered the leaked Verizon Evo-like phone? This is it

      • Kevmo

Unless they ditched the kickstand on the phone that was rumored to be coming to verizon, this may be a different phone. Perhaps coming to Tmobile? A guy can dream,,,I have been toying with the idea of getting the Vibrant but i just can’t seem to get over the cheap plastic feel and what is in my opinion, a pretty weak camera quality. The Desire HD has me very interested.

      • ShyJuan

That’s why I left the Vibrant at Radio Shack. It felt flimsy and I hated the weird shape at the bottom.

  • http://123montenegro.com Ivan

I have a HTCs phone, and I love HTC Sense. Not sure about the “fragmentation” issue either. These skins don’t affect API’s. Android 2.1 is Android 2.1 phone no matter whether its running Sense, MotoBlur or TouchWiz. I’ve never had problems deploying my applications to any of these devices.

  • Noel

Htc sense is cool…just wish it can be as an Application on Android market. I like stock Android..i wish Google will impliment something similar to the new HTC LOCATIONS and the Htcsense.com in the cloud service…i really want that on my Stock android device..hope it comes with the next Android update(Gingerbread). I want to be able to use my Maps n Navigation turn by turn voice commands even in areas of low or no signals. Or something similar to Ovi maps, pre-installed on ur device or downloaded from the market.

  • Leo

If this phone comes to Verizon and I think it will I will JUMP on it the first minute it becomes available for pre order, does anyone know if blockbuster app is only for verizon phone? apparently dezire hd comes with it so it the answer is yes, blockbuster app it is only for verizon that’s the confirmation we all need

    • Leo

BTW I LOVE HTC SENSE! Better then only Android, or even better then Motorola and Samsungs UI together!

  • DonnyKerabatsos

Just tried watching that video via this page on my Droid X with flash 10.1. Slow and choppy. Is that Verizons networks or just flash not really being adequate for mobile phones?

    • You’rePointingInTheWrongDirection

Flash isn’t a mobile idea. The Firefox Mobile saga shows that natively desktop ideas don’t make for the best mobile experience. Flash is no exception. I don’t have Skyfire for Android, but it’s said to be able to play Flash videos. Check it out.

      • james

SmOove like Butta on my EVO ;)

    • Cingulair

It’s Verizon’s network. I tried out a few of their Droid handsets in one of their stores. The Droid 2 and I think the other was either an X or Incredible. Nevertheless, I was trying out the Sports and/or NFL highlights that comes with Verizon service on the phone. I know Verizon fans are gonna down rank and/or bash but, I mean come on. You don’t leave a device hanging in your store like that. No mini indoor tower? Or even better have hotspot set up in your store for goodness sake. The video was so choppy until it was frustrating. I wouldn’t think it was the handset because one of them was made by HTC and, it still rendered the video horribly.

    • Mr.Bill

Odd, My old Snapdragon WM PIE played it smoothly.
      I suspect network honestly.

    • Darwin

Flash sucks in all its forms but it sucks the most on mobile.

      • tdiddy

You should just come out and say that if it’s not an iPhone, you wont like it…

  • Josh B

Just watched it on my EVO one word SMOOTH!

  • HellBoy

I really hope tmobile gets this phone!!!! They need it to keep their customers!!!

  • legendz411

I am an average user. I have an iphone and I couldn’t live without a smartphone to do what I do daily. I am pretty techy. I fit the niche of the users on here.

If this phone comes to ATT, im ditching iphone. That video looked AWESOME.

  • Sonya

When this comes to Verizon it is mine. Once I saw the HTC Hero (UK Version) I knew HTC would be doing some incredible (no pun intended) things, they keep pushing forward and I commend them.

    • Virtue

Seriously, Verizon has enough great phones. T-Mobile is the one in need here. We don’t have a SINGLE HTC Sense phone in our line up. What we do have are cheap looking plastic myTouch thingys that don’t cut it. So a little slack would be nice.

  • Osbor

this is the ONLY problem with the droid X, i can’t load on roms like this at a whim :(

that said there isn’t much that’s interesting about this rom, but that locations app and widget are neat enough.

  • Osbor

    actually nevermind
that lock-phone-and-post-reward-message-on-screen thing is INCREDIBLY cool

  • phil dough

I am considering getting one of these things or an EVO. But before I do I would like to know if HTC addressed their battery issues. I’ve purchased HTC phones in the past and the batteries died completely with in 9 months to one year and that is retarded. Is this still a trend or do the batteries now last the two years of a contract that leashes you to your master, I mean carrier?

  • serpentor

htc just out appled Apple. See, it’s not so hard putting out a better product than Apple. They should branch out and do other hardware.

    • Darwin

Apple has a better screen. A better interface by far. Much better media syncing and usage for music, podcasts audio books etc. Better battery life, smoother and more responsiveness multi-touch which is really noticeable. So keep dreaming.

      • tdiddy

Again… not apple iphone. We get it, you dont like it.

      • Lordcron

You obviously work for Apple the way your attempting to dog this phone. Go Away!

  • vdefender

Okay, okay. I’ve been bashing HTC sense for a year now, and I think they just won me over XD. Sense combined with the fact that HTC phones are always easier to root than say motorola. I just reaallyyy want a new HTC android phone with Sense, that has the keyboard from the TP2 PLEASE!

  • http://cutritefx.com Scott

I want this phone. Hopefully AT&T will get it.

  • David

    I love my HTC EVO!
