Samsung Galaxy S line getting Android 2.2 in late October?

General

The Facebook page of Samsung Mobile España has posted up a quick note that seems to indicate the Samsung Galaxy S will be getting its Android 2.2 update in “late October.” Why is this important? Samsung previously indicated that, like the roll out of the device, updates to the various handset models would come more or less around the same time. If the Froyo-date for the unlocked Galaxy S is set for late October, we would be willing to bet branded versions of the device (e.g. Vibrant, Captivate, Epic, Fascinate) will have to wait even longer than that. If true, the timetable seems pretty disappointing, no?

Also it may come with UMA. The company integrating UMA into androids for t-mobile posted a video showing the Vibrant with UMA.

Doesn’t the Epic have 2.2? Y porque Espana antes de EEUU? Queremos saber Samsung, es una grande injusticia movilistica!

    Viva EEUU !

Hey wtf?! What happened to the end of September?

    • Jarrett

It got changed to the end of October. Good news though, it will probably change to November here in another month though. At least you are not waiting for the N8.

      welcome to Android.

  • Dream

Well as ling as the lag bugs are fixed along with gps then I will be happy to wait for my fascinates upgrade plus I have skyfire for my flash sub so yea I can wait

I’m so glad I skipped this phone!

I’ve got three at&t Captivate’s in this household … sometimes, I wish I had skipped too, in retrospect.

  • JR

Well I think this phone is great on 2.1 as it is. I look forward to 2.2 but I’m pretty happy right now.

  • Steve

Where is the promised GPS fix!?

AT&T is rolling out an update for the Captivate starting today (JH7) and guess what it is missing?

    Hint: bug fixes

    GTFO Samsung

  • Mike

I am so glad I returned my Captivate. Total FAIL Samsung!

    • serpentor

Same here. I’m feeling good I returned my Epic. At this point I’m going to hold out for WP7.

  • basily

It’s still the best phone out there, even on 2.1

It’s a great phone but with gingerbread coming down the pipeline soon it’s crazy for them not to have a more prompt OS update process. I was really thinking of getting the Galaxy S on AT&T but i also know samsung has a spotty record when it comes to new OS updates.

Well made up my mind ,microsoft 7 phone!!!

I love this phone but Samsung is dropping the ball with changing the dates for 2.2 for no reason. It gives the Samsung name a black eye…

    • Matt

Samsung is already known for their terrible support. This phone was suppose to change all that but the writing is clearly on the wall that its business as usual at Samsung.

Release phone with bugs etc and instead of fixing them move on to the next phone to sell to customers.

i returned my iphone 4 and got the Vibrant ( rooted ) and couldn’t be happier, the thing is super fast :)

Glad to be back on 2.1 after the incredible update….Samsung Fascinate soooo nice!

  • Adam

So the epic comes out last, gets bug fixes first, then i read the fascinate is getting updates….where is the vibrants much needed bug fixes, big fail there tmobile or samsung whoever is at fault! fix the bugs i can deal with no 2.2!

    • Western

Epic has got plenty of unfixed bugs. Very bad 3G an GPS problems.

  • Josh

I dunno… i’d kind of rather Samsung delay the update just to make sure they have it right, rather than rush through and release an extremely buggy 2.2….

at the same time, i upgraded from a (now) super slow G1. It’s like an old man with a walker compared to the Vibrant (i guess a proper analogy would be the Flash?).

Either way CM6 should be released pretty soon so whether it’s Samsung’s Froyo or Cyanogen, I’ll be happy with an update whenever it’s ready.

I am really upset Samsung has really dropped the ball on this one. Samsung looks like total idiots to have its flagship line of phones so far behind. I think this will be my last Samsung phone HTC going forward fo me.

  • Evan

You know, I hear a lot of idiots here complaining about this phone and the pushed release date of 2.2

    SHUT UP

This phone is amazing, and the ONLY reason any of you morons are complaining is because of your incessant urge to have the latest and greatest.

Ask yourself: Why return a phone or complain here over an OS update? What’s so great about 2.2? Speed? GS has that. Flash? Get over it.

Seriously, you people never change. The same kinds of whiney little dorks said the same stuff about 2.1, and 2.0.

It’s coming down the pipes. Enjoy your phone as it is and shut the hell up.

    • Sam

      I couldn’t have said it better…

After reading this thread, I could not help but to be reminded of how whiney and stupid people can get.

Not getting an update on time developed by a company other than Samsung makes this phone worthless…brilliant!

  • erton

evan you must understand that the galaxy s is not so briliant as they say.
i have this phone and is to slow absolutley to slow when i press the button to call somebody i have to whait for 4 seconds thats not normal for such a good phone
so we wait for 2.2 upgrade because they say that will be faster
