Will the real BlackBerry Storm 3 please stand up?

Exclusive

If you are keeping up to date on your BlackBerry rumors for the day, you might have seen this photo floating around that was originally sent in to BerryReview of the BlackBerry “Storm 3″. If you got really excited at the possibility of that phone being the Storm 3, we have to let you know that the device in that photo, is not the BlackBerry Storm 3. Here is what you can expect in the Storm 3 — we have seen the device and multiple sources have informed us of the below specifications:

  • Almost physically identical to the BlackBerry Storm 2. Literally. On first glance, we thought our guy was just showing us the current model.
  • The device is a tiny bit slimmer, feels about the same weight, but also seems to be a bit lighter.
  • The camera looks to be the same as the Storm 2, but we have to believe it is a 5 megapixel shooter. One source said 5 megapixels, the other didn’t know.
  • 512MB of RAM
  • OS 6
  • The SurePress screen lives!
  • Nothing we saw said anything about a Mobile Hotspot feature, but as that leaked slide indicated, it might be a feature coming after the device ships…

We weren’t able to snap a photo of the handset, but all in all, we have to say, we’re pretty disappointed. The fact that RIM continues to beat around the bush and offer up almost irrelevant product refreshes while the entire mobile smartphone market continues to push the envelope of user experience, specifications, design, and features worries us. So, we have to ask, is there anyone interested in a BlackBerry Storm 3 on Verizon that’s basically more or less the same phone you bought last year?

UPDATE: Well, the plot thickens. We have been told by an anonymous tipster that the Storm 3, as we have seen and heard it, might actually be a simple Storm 2 refresh. Almost a silent refresh, very different from the BlackBerry Storm 3 device. We’ll keep digging, but it gets weirder and weirder with RIM these days…

I love it when bb puts out lame updates to their already lame devices. It continues to show me that RIM is Canadian for pathetic. Why do BB fanboys/girls even put up with their less than mediocre BS? They have their pick of an iPhone or any of the terrific android offerings but they CHOOSE to suffer with a device that lacks relevance as soon as its leaked.

  • bb4life

Just wait and the BBS3 will be good. Give it time, don’t rush it like the 9530.

Squak all you want, but RIM is making record breaking profits….

  • Stupac Forsure

Wow…I was kind of hoping that BB would have actually stepped up to the plate and knocked this one out of the park but they keep designing these devices with the thought that process of business people use these devices only when that’s obviously not true….What a total waste

The “Storm3″ BGR saw was a the real deal, but will be slated only as an unannouned facelift.

The real-final Storm3 is the one in the picture, and it has a new augmented reality feature that will be integrated in OS6.

    Farewell

Apart from the AR bit you tacked on, thats exactly what I posted yesterday.

I really want a new storm(a new storm). the perfect storm would be 4.0 inch 1 ghz processor surepress wifi and hot spot and also a forward facing camera and better than 5 megapixels. this would be the phone that they need to get back into the race my time to renew is in novemeber if this ohine is not out or is not up to my standards i will be going droid.

i bet this guy feels like a real genius now. so in this post he stated this is not the storm 3? the “storm 3″ he speaks of in his fantasy world is actually the storm 2 refresh! he just posted this http://www.bgr.com/2010/09/22/blackberry-storm-2-refresh-gets-a-model-number-9570/ its a good thing the guys over at bbleaks can actually get it right. this new article shows the storm 2 refresh! exactly what he calls the storm 3 in this article im replying too.

this now blackberry touch screen he refers to as not the storm 3 indeed is the storm 3. he states “it’s getting a little clearer now…” in his new 9570 report. and “the follow up device is a storm 2 refresh and not the blackberry storm 3″ i guess he just wanted to generate some traffic flow. but instead ended up putting his “genius” foot in his mouth.

i just want “the real boy genius to stand up and apologize” or acknowledge the fact you were wrong.

the storm 2 (odin refresh) is supposed to be the exact same as the storm 2 with the exception of some adjustments to be able to run bb6. storm 3 is a whole different device yet it will be touch screen and both different and similar at the same time.

the picture above shows what could quite possibly could be the storm 3 it looks similar but obviously a little tweaked. the storm 2 looked very similar to storm 9530 yet it wasn’t bashed when we got leaked images.

you decide there was info on a storm 2 refresh caught on a slide, and a storm 3 as an entirely new device in the storm series. i mean the storm series currently has 2 devices and the curve has 2 with the 9330 to be released so is the 9330 the same as the 8530 no c’mon!

Vzw Tech Rep just cause you decided to respond with your garbage about this bullshit android world we’re starting to live in. I’ll say this, their apps are shit and their security is even worse. The ONLY droid I’d ever recommend would be the incredible. However that’s even a tough sell as i think its all a gimmick piece of toy shit. so since you obviously know nothing about anything that has to do with OS or anything, I will put you right along with the apple assholes in my book. Ok now that I’ve cursed enough at this “genius” I’ll say I can’t wait for the storm 3 or even a torch like device.

    • guera

      hahahah thats right!!!!

  • BBlvR

Christ, that “tipster” was me, posting in the comments. This site sucks.

I miss the days when Blackberry was the end-all. I’m all for being loyal to a brand, but Apple and Android are absolutely wiping the phone with RIM. My current Blackberry will be my last unless there is some big change between now and my next phone. And no, OS6 doesn’t count.

  • FredoCorleone

This is definitely not a Storm. I actually believe this is a Blackberry Torch 2, or a Torch-like device being released on Sprint…please be a Torch-like device for Sprint! Please!!!!

  • CAT

Absolutely! Can’t wait to get it. For us original Storm owners, this will be a great upgrade. I still love my S1 and am not interested in all the flying icons, busy screens, and “apps for everything” of the iPhone or Droid. If that’s your thing, then there’s lots of choices out there. I want first and foremost, a dependable phone and email services. Blackberry is my first choice for those two reasons.

  • AngryStormOwner

CAN’T WAIT TO GET RID OF MY TRASH OF A PHONE STORM 1 FOR A DROID THIS MONTH!!!! BB SUCKS!!! REFRESH??? WHAT A JOKE RIM!!! COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME, MONEY, AND THOUGHT… JUST SELL YOUR COMPANY ALREADY!!!

    • guera

if only you knew…..droid sucks i have been selling them since they launched. bb wins always i have seen the most problems coming in with all the droids shutting off and software updates not working and apps messing up the phones. being an open platform anyone making apps and all just stupid. from all the apps out there (stupid ones at that) 80% of those you can get for bb just that for every one app there is atleast 10 to 20 of the same app just named different. overall bb are the best most reliable phones, if you just dont know how to use or take care of your phone then thats on you but dont lash out on a device that was made for email and business and just added some “fun” stuff on it to please some customers. once you get your droid and see how much more complicated it is and it sucks you will be crawling back to your bb. i will say that storm 1 did suck but got better w the 2 and am excited for the refresh or 3 whichever doesnt even matter. i will never trade my blackberry for anything

  • ROTTENCORPSE

The “Storm 3″ as they were calling it is an updated Storm 2. This pic is mre likely to be the 3rd Storm. As for the comment about the BB fanboys…get real, iPhone is at least 2 years behind in tech, cant make left handed calls without hanging up…Androids are ok but nothing compares to BlackBerry…maybe all the droid fangirls and iPhonY fans should look and see that Blackberry STILL holds the largest percent of the smartphone market for a reason…BEST SMARTPHONES EVER

I don’t care about iphones, droids, or BlackBerry. I like something that works. I bought a Black Berry Storm 1. Found out shortly after like everyone else who has this phone that there is little application memory. Seriously?!? The most irritating thing about this piece of junk phone is when you press one spot on the phone it actually clicks on a different spot. Iphones are dumb that you can’t remove the battery but having to take out my battery once or more a day to temporarily fix my phone is ridiculous! I don’t have to do that with my T.V. remote or my laptop. Who makes a product that tells you oh.. you have to take out the battery to fix it. Really?! Why does this not get called in to the better business bureau? Does Black Berry not have an iso9000 quality control team? I don’t care about you fans of any of these phones. That’s not the point. I can’t believe Verizon/Black Berry sold us on a phone that is such a piece of junk.

  • Dstorm

i dont know if any of you noticed that ”M” on the phone is a sticker and its most likely covering the front facing camera. i still have my storm 1 and i love it im due for an upgrade in 4 days!!!! but im gonna hold it off till the storm 3 comes out which i hope is the one in this picture. blackberry is amazing!!!!!!

Jonathan S. Geller is an idiot. This isn’t identical to the BlackBerry Storm 2. The storm 2 doesn’t have a track pad for starters. Anyone who actually knows what a storm 2 looks like would never say they are identical period.
