Nokia N8 delayed 'a few weeks'

General

Today, Nokia released a statement announcing that the much-hyped N8 smartphone would be delayed for “a few weeks” so that the Finnish company could make some “final amends” to the device. Here is what the release looks like:

The amount of preorders has exceeded our expectations and we are working hard to deliver the Nokia N8 to the market. In some markets, we had planned to start delivering the Nokia N8s to our pre-order customers by the end of September. To ensure a great user experience, we have decided to hold the shipments for a few weeks to do some final amends. We’re thrilled with the response that we’ve had to the Nokia N8 and assure everyone who’ve pre-ordered it already that it’ll be worth the wait! We expect consumers to get their Nokia N8s during October.

While the delay isn’t too severe — moving from one erroneous date in September to another erroneous date in October — it does harsh the nice mellow Nokia had going after last week’s Nokia World. The company continues to say that the N8 has had some of the strongest pre-sales numbers of any Nokia handset to date. We’ll have to wait until October to levy our judgement.

I think I speak for everyone who reads this site, no one cares about Nokia anymore.

    • rudy

      @Sonya,

You’re def not speaking for me.

    • JK

      Thats odd!

I was going to say the same thing about your post!

    • Nokia Guy

I’m real hyped it about it. Speak for yourself.

    • Stock Android Fan

You hit that nail on the head. Nokia hasn’t been relevant in my book for years.

      • JK

Unfortunately for you, not everyone reads your book.

    • TONY

      BAAAHAHAHAHAHA TRUE. NOKIA SUCKS!

      • Wild Bill

        That was informative, heh.

Were you sick the day they taught Creative Writing in H.S?

    • DonnyKerabatsos

      Sonya, I personally don’t either

  • PAPINYC

Verizon probably sneaked one of their crappy ROMS onto it and they’re desperately trying to root the darn thing before the global launch.

Way to go BIG RED !

  • PAPINYC

Ooops, I forgot, it’s not an Android device and, therefore, it can not be rooted; it must be another one of Verizon’s crappy ROMS

  • Wild Bill

I wish Samsung would of done that to the Behold II LOL

Might have saved some me a few $$$ from having to buy another phone after 2 months of hell with the piece of crapola.

    • WalterSobchak

Very common mistake but it is “would have” not “would of”.

      • Wild Bill

        Well Walt,

El Duder might think otherwise LOL

      • WalterSobchak

If you’re into the whole brevity thing…

      • Wild Bill

It’s hard to be brief after your rug is stolen.

      • GN

comforting to know, we have an English professor on board

Nokia really knows how to kill momentum. They did the same thing with the N97 although the phone turned out to be crap (by Nokia’s standards).

    • John Connor

They also took 3 months too long to release the N900 last winter, which I was interested in. I quickly changed my mind and went DROID.

    • Downtown Clown

      Maybe it’s not all bad.

They hired Pamela Anderson to do some type of promotion with this device, so maybe this delay will give them time to dump her and hire a different has-been/never-was

  • Stromson

I wish Nokia wouldn’t announce a phone until it’s actually ready for launch, rather than announcing it and then stringing us along for six months.

  • mike

Nokia is such a bad joke
they should’ve released that phone like a year ago, now it’s old, ugly and beside the camera nothing else is worth a damn penny!

    • Wild Bill

      Really?

You don’t think USB On The Go might be a worthwhile feature?

  • Mark

Today Nokia have learnt that putting a bit of lag on the homescreen switch to protect potential mistouches was a bad idea. It’s now being removed.

As for no-one caring about Nokia, that’s really just the US and since you’re largely owned by China no-one really cares what you think any more. :)

    • Wild Bill

If thats true why did I have Pizza for dinner 6 out of the 7 nights last week.

Sounds About right for Nokia I am still wating for the e55 NAM Nokia Just Does not get it They can never get a product to market on time ever. I give Up On out dated symbian never makes a release date Jokia

    • Wild Bill

It’s cause they’re European and they take their sweet time doing anything.

Just look how long it takes Dom Pérignon to release a new vintage.

      • GN

does that mean the N8 will perform to greatness, for the length of time it takes Nokia to release a device? as maybe most of us know, just how shweeeet that Perignon is going to taste, for the lenth of time they are mastering up that next line of bubbly?..:p

      • GN

shit……Walter going to catch my typo…and friggg my grade up

      • Wild Bill

        I don’t know.

        I’m a beer drinker.

  • Suspiro

    Nokia? Yawn!!

  • http://mobilelust.blogspot.com Gunmetalskyline

If Nokia is going to make delays to meet demands and assure best product quality they should speedily make available the N8 in the other color choices it’s scheduled to come in.

  • http://mobilelust.blogspot.com Gunmetalskyline

    *color variants

    • Downtown Clown

I think it’s being delayed due to my request that they make a model with flames like my old man had on his 69 El Camino.

  • Shawn

    Seems like the N900 release / delay/ release delay/ delay……..
Nokia may kill all the launch buzz on this one too?

  • elinventor

is time for nokia to stand “if” the want to be in the race, it been sleeping for a while , and cropping garbage like n97, look around you nokia, even motorola wake up in one year, look android 2 year from new to second smartphone software, where are you guys? now same s*&$ like n97, no today, tomorrow, and tomorrow not next day, pleaseeeeeee, get a grip to reality and publicity.

    • Downtown Clown

      Huh?

  • JM

They have another phone that a few petiole will think is the greatest ever and that everyone else will ignore completely…and they can’t even stick to a release date for that.

  • counsel
