Sony on pace to hit PS3 sales targets

Gaming

Reuters is reporting that electronics company Sony is on pace to hit the PlayStation 3 sales target it set for itself (from March 2010 to March 2011) of 15 million units. The company reported that sales from April 2010 to September 2010 were above forecast and that the company is expecting strong holiday sales. Sony is hoping that its Move motion controller will be competitive with Microsoft’s Kinect motion system offered on the Xbox 360. Kazuo Hirai, president of Sony Computer Entertainment, also noted that 80% of the 38 million PlayStation 3s in the market are connected to the PlayStation network; a number the company wants to bring to 100%.

    Never was interested in PS.

    Yeah, 4 years later…

That’s is such lazy respond. If you’re not interested, why bother posting a “never” interested post? State your case why you dislike the system or a constructive comment.

Eh, honestly, its not about PS3, but this non-news post. It’s not even sales figures, which are kind of-somewhat interesting… but projections. Ok. And?

But if you want a debate… I debate that rather than issuing bundle after bundle, which I agree are of value, Sony really needs to think of a ‘cheap’ (I’m talking $200) PS3 now. With a $200 Arcade Xbox and sub-$200 Wii, they need something to compete on that level. Yes, I know the value of Blu-ray… but as someone said…3 – 4 years in… that value is vastly diminished.

a price drop to sub 200 would cause huge spikes in sales. not sure what they could do to cause such a significant drop though.

perhaps take out the wireless adapter (which would piss off lots of people), a 20 gb hard drive would bring the cost down a bit, its easy as hell to drop a hdd in the ps3 so storage is not an issue.

i dont really see a way to drop the price down to that point yet unless they are willing to make it total barebones ps3 pack. no controller, small hdd, simple av cables.

I would pick up this ps3 lite as I have my old 60gb hdd laying around, and plenty of controllers to spare to allow this as my bedroom model for netflix streaming, dvd/blu ray, and the occasional game playing.

So if they offer the 20GB model again, and you still buy your own whatever-GB HDD and pick up some used controllers online, you’re probably pretty close to the $400 mark anyway. Might as well get it all spankin’ new if you’re spending the $$$ on it anyway.

      • DownTown

True but the average non techy consumer for the most part is dumb. I would be all for the bare bones kit as I have the hdd, several controllers. It would be a cheap easy way to get blu ray player/media player/game console into as many homes as possible. It would just need to be advertised in a different light.

I am sure that many current owners would pick up a “spare” for bedroom, living room, etc… just because the price is right.

Ps3 is the best console out if they would have had the same price point when it came out theyd be dominating everybody because they have the best out of the box experience and failure rates have always been better then xbox however kinect>move imo still love my ps3 tho

15 million? Android sells that many phones at the same price in a couple of weeks! No wonder Sony’s going under.

    • DownTown

      lame ass fanboy……

they manage to sell that many on long drawn out overpriced contracts on so many damn many different systems it makes you sick.

love how a brand new phone comes out with the os that was released 6 months ago, and every other phone has a different os number attached to it. gotta be fun trying to find something in the app store that is compatible with 35 different models huh.

      A cellphone to game system.

      Yeah, that’s an equal comparison.
