Nokia officially announces C7 and C6-01

General

At Nokia World this morning, the Finnish handset maker officially unveiled the C7 and C6-01 handsets to the Symbian-loving masses. Both handsets are due out in Q4 of this year and both pack: a peta-band WCDMA radio, quad-band GSM radio, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, 8 megapixel camera with flash and 720p video recording, FM radio, and micro-SD card slot. The C7 is a full-touchscreen device that packs a 3.5-inch AMOLED capacitive display and boasts a 640 x 360 resolution. The C6-01 is also a full-touchscreen device and sports a 3.2-inch AMOLED capacitive, polarized display with a 640 x 360 resolution. Aside from polarization, the C6-01 also adds an FM transmitter and front-facing camera; both handsets will run the Symbian^3 operating system. The C7 will retail for €335 and the C6-01 will retail for €260. We’ve got the full data sheets for both handsets ready for you after the break. Let us know what you think.

    Are U.S. versions coming?

peta band 3G and quad band GSM so that’s for everybody pretty much

    • mingkee

It won’t have US version hardware wise because all NAM 3G bands are already covered.

the C7 looks better, i like it

  • Stromson

I can’t believe I’m actually complaining about this but damn that 2008 screen resolution (how spoiled we have become)! Aside from that, Nokia makes some of the sexiest hardware in the business. We should lobby for a Nokia built Android device.

      or a winPho7 device

No kidding! I was looking at the specs and look of this thing and thinking it’s biggest fatal flaw is choice of OS. Granted, it’s been a while since I used Symbian, and I’m sure it’d make a great phone platform, but it’s smartphone functionality has always been somewhat limited… A 5-band 3GSM phone is KILLER to me. GO NOKIA, rising from ashes! They spend so much effort on making this super cool devices, and so much effort trying to keep this dated OS going… think how much better they’d be if they just spent all their software related efforts on an Nokiafied Android (with Google, of course) instead. I wonder if they hate American companies… They certainly DON’T like Apple.

    @Stromson

That’s exactly it… If it wasnt for WP7, then my next phone would be Android. This means my next phone won’t ever be a Nokia, despite how much I love their super-sexy hardware and despite how great of a history I had with Nokia back in the day. Its too bad, I really do love Nokia… no one builds them as solid as Nokia.

    Will either have swype?

    • Dara

All existing Symbian^1 apps will work on Symbian^3, including swype.

So the C6-00 has a slide-out keyboard and the C6-01 doesn’t?! It’s too early for confusing shit like that – BGR, please keep articles like this for late afternoon distribution. Thanks.

    • Paul

Well the new Mercedes-Benz E-class comes in saloon, estate, cabriolet, AMG and coupé and you don’t see people complaining about that now do you?

      • http://cameron-schultz.ca schultzter

If I could afford a Benz I wouldn’t be complaining about the C6 either – I’d just buy one of each (and a C7 and an E7 too).

  • Nokia Guy

It has penta-band frequencies. They are the U.S. versions. They’ll work for AT&T and T-Mobile’s 3g

Mind share, it is the one advantage Nokia doesn’t have and when you are trying to attract new (or possible returning users) mind share is something you really need to have.

Stop with the “Nokia needs to use Android or WP7″. Nokia is an institution and they are not going to alienate their core ideals to appease dumb Americans who understand neither business nor fundamentals.

Your types remind me of this group of Tech Titans sitting in front of Vladimir Putin at a conference and asking him questions. Michael Dell asks “What can we do to help Russia? Putin’s answer was to slightly embarrass Dell all while making sure everyone attending understood not to ask dumb questions.

There are always going to be people that have been doing things longer than you and others who do things better than you. Now if no one cares about either of those two groups it really doesn’t matter how long they have been doing it or how well. In the end consumers have to be interested in buying your products.

Nokia’s profits and marketshare are rapidly decreasing otherwise they wouldn’t have replaced their CEO who’s worked for the company for 30 years, so YES they do need good suggestions like Android and WP7.

Furthermore, Putin has long since proven he’d put his ego ahead of the interests of his people. The man’s a psycopath. Russia needs all the help it can get to modernize its economy and IT infrastructure.

Except for the EVO, HTC should’ve jumped this Front Facing camera bandwagon sooner. Kinda stupid for Samsung’s Galaxy series to skip this feature when they already have the prototype showing with FFCs. Motorola also had their chance with the DroidX and Droid2

Now Nokia is waking up and smelling the roses.

    • Jarrett

Nokia has had phones with FFC’s for several years. The technology is nothing new.

      • w ALd o

yeah but it’s only now with iPhone and EVO and the bandwidth here in the US do we see greater interest in this feature.

      • Jarrett

It is only because only now are the US Networks technologically capable of delivering a decent service. Europe, Japan and other parts of the world have had this capability for the better part of the decade. As much as I like Apple as a business they themselves couldn’t have made this happen any faster. You can have all the tech in the world (and Nokia does, invented most of the phone tech) but if your countries Networks can not deliver the technology it really doesn’t matter what you have.

      • fz553

Yep..I’ve been using it on my N82 for the last 2-3 yrs…works like a charm

  • JK

If they were announced for Q4 2010, plan on seeing them around next July 4th LOL

Actually, if you are a Nokia Fan, they are a good and cheaper alternative to the N8.

  • namelesstwo

Oh No! More Nokia phones with Symbian OS! Not to worry though, 20 years from now, the posters will be worth a lot of dough to private collectors.

  • Mgl323

Looks nice, but the screen resolution could have been better.

  • Johnny Tremaine

    Samsung clone.

    • JK

How can it be a Samsung Clone?

It looks nothing like an iPhone and that would be a hard and fast pre-requisite for being a Sammy Clone now.

And Nokia keeps insisting on Symbian…
