Wirefly selling EVO 4G handsets via Facebook again

General

Two weeks ago, we told you about Wirefly selling the ever-so-elusive HTC EVO 4G handset via Facebook. Well, the company has just sent us a quick email to inform us that they will be doing the same thing again tomorrow. Just like last time, the rules are:

  • Sometime tomorrow, Wirefly will announce the launch of the HTC EVO 4G sale on Facebook.
  • Wirefly will publish a link to purchase the Evo on the “Friends Only” tab of its Facebook page.
  • Non-fans will not will be able view or access the link.
  • Those not familiar with Facebook: To become a ‘fan’ of Wirefly, go to www.Facebook.com/Wireflyand click on the ‘LIKE’ button at the top of the page.
  • Reminder:  The EVO will not be available on Wirefly.com.  To access this limited-time offer, you must “Like” Wirefly’s Facebook page

Anyone out there still trying to get their hands on an EVO 4G without success?

    where is the EVO review?

    • PAPINYC

      @Richard

We’re not getting an EVOOO review. The Moderators have apologized randomly, yet sincerely, for the oversight in response to individual comments. I know it’s hard because it took me a couple of months myself to get passed not having what should have been the review of the year but, you must at least consider, the EVOOO was released in the midst of iDuct Tape Gate and BGR might have been too consumed at the time; it could have been just as they’ve maintained all along, an honest oversight. In the end, the EVOOO not only speaks loudly for itself but also speaks to how all smartphones should technically be designed. Just be happy and proud that you actually have one and not stuck with an inferior phone because trying to actually buy an EVO now is like getting George Bush (W) re-elected. Or, like Barbara Bush winning a beauty pageant.

      Hail to the Chief: EVO
      :)

    • Killah Kyle

Maybe because every time he went to go pick one up at best buy to get reviewed, they didn’t have any.

      • Marc

        LOL, You ain’t lying.

  • Ash

I have the droid x… had the evo and returned it. I actually miss it!

    • Mr. Bill

Buy an keep both, it is the only solution to your particular problem, if we may call it a problem. :)

      Both good looking handsets.

    • Not ’till you try a Droid X!

I had the EVO first. Wow, the capacitive buttons & touchscreen were way too sensitive for me.

Replaced it with the Droid X which I was shocked by how much more I like it.

Ultimately, had to go back to Sprint for better rates, FREE femtocell (now ver. 2) and the awesome hardware keyboard of the EPIC.

Do sometimes miss that “X” though…

I am getting an incredible tomorrow! Swapping the D1 :-(
Its just like an Evo I think. Just with a smaller screen, and no 4g and no FFC. It does have an optical trackpad and VZW service though.
Why is the incredible the only Sense Android without the vanilla files underneath? Which means you cannot turn sense off. Maybe that is why it is the snappiest sense phone?

    • Richard

Have you tried Sense yet, like for more than a minute? It’s actually not that bad and fairly useful.

      • WalterSobchak

Yeah I have used it on my sister, girlfriend, and 2 buddy’s phones(all of which I am responsible for the purchase of). I am not knocking it, I think it is the best non-vanilla experience. I was given the choice of D2, DX, or Dinc, and I chose the Dinc
I was wondering if the inability to turn it off(or lack of vanilla files) is why it feels a little quicker than other sense devices I have used?
I am not a social networker, but I love the weather animations, sms widgets, and the music widget is awesome.I have also grown fond of people and bookmark widgets in Launcher pro +(which are the same as sense).

Let me know how you like your incredible?I was going to switch to verizon for it but am not sure i should.

  • Phat Evo

Ugh the EVO is such a brick. I can see why the fat people like it so much though. Most ubber geeks are in the obese category.

    • WalterSobchak

Not sure where you are from, but round here most ub3r geeks, not “ubber” as you put it, are actually somewhere between gaunt and emaciated. Typically they do not take time to eat, or overeat.
Either way keep thinking that only beautiful/fit people use the iphone, and you use the iphone so therefore you must be beautiful/fit! It is just logic right?
First time I saw an evo it was a beautiful little blonde chick using it as a camera at a wedding, I noticed that gorgeous 4.3″ screen from 100ft away(she was nice too!)

  • Billy

Anyone in the Chicagoland area that wants an EVO should look for Billy at the Frankfort RadioShack. We got ‘em.

  • toursux

They shoulda made the oversight of not reviewing iPhone4 as well!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • MacMan

I’m really surprised in how long it takes to get them in stock. That alone is hurting the sales.

  • MattMan

I had to purchase my EVO through Best Buy and had to get the white back which I didn’t like at first, but after an hour of having this technological wonder the white back was no problem. Love the phone tried all the other phones on the other carriers out there and nothing comes close. If you don’t own one I’m sorry you truely are missing out.

    • MattMan

Yes even the iPhone 4. iPhone has made a cool UI but actual functionality of the phone its at least a year behind.

  • Evoreturn

Wirefly will have my Evo back in stock this week since I returned it. Love the phone, lots of cool features…but even with making sure all the apps are not running, etc…battery life is terrible. Sprint’s 4G service is also not where I live yet, so the $10 a month addition to my bill does nothing. I called Verizon who I have been with for years..and they are actually beating the pricing I was getting with Sprint-amazing what you can get if you just ask. Also it is a large phone..for us men who carry phones in our pockets-it’s a bit much. Not sure what I will get with Verizon, but I’m only locking into a 1 year contract so if Sprint extends the 4G to me, or Verizon comes out with LTE next year I’ll be able to jump on. If you get this phone, just keep a charger close by and you’ll be fine.

  • Jonathan

Did I miss something? It seems like Wirefly was only offering a $10 saving when I checked out the link last time. What a colossal waste of time. VZ is offering the Fascinate buy-one-get-one-free while Sprint is asking $250 for the same phone with just a keyboard added. Give me a break, Sprint.

    • Fascinate

I wouldn’t just on Verizon’s Fascinate deal until you see what the Wirefly price is.

As for the Verizon Fascinate vs. the Sprint Epic 4G, I agree Sprint’s price is too high, but I would not call them the same phone. They are both Galaxy S, but the Epic has the keyboard, the front facing camera, and of course it’s a 4G phone.

Until Verizon rolls out a 4G network and offers a little competition, expect Sprint to keep asking a premium.

P.S. the Epic is $199.99 at Wirefly.

  • Teve

Does anyone know what the price wirefly sold it for last time.

    • TomCruise

      189.99

  • Killah Kyle

I saw the giant picture and thought it was the Evo review. This is good to.

  • RobGom

While BGR pseudo apologized for not reviewing the EVO, I don’t think it’s too much to ask for a review in general. Let’s find out what good’ol BG thinks about the EVO in comparison to other phones on the market, current releases included.

I already know about the technological wonder the EVO can provide. I’ve owned one from day 1. But to continue to ignore reviewing the EVO, as other EVO-like phones continue to hit the market only adds insult to injury. The EVO set a benchmark for what current phone technology can provide, and to ignore that while other similar phones get lauded and praised seems like a diss rather than a mistake.

Acknowledge the EVO rather than apologize for it. Let’s see a review, no matter how late you are to the party.

  • Stephen

God I love my EVO. Love. Watch out for the Fascinate though, Verizon is forcing Bing on it, not Google.

  • toursux

    No evo Review here !!!!!

  • http://www.wwwtixx.com RR

I played with the EVo at my house in Jersey super slow webpages …I guess the coverage at the jersey shore is just not ready for a high end sprint phone, it would be a huge brick for me as who needs a phone that can do it all if the network is not in the area for it

  • afd

idiot who wants that phone comment above

  • PAPINYC

    @DanHesse

    Dear Mr. Hesse,
Please don’t cancel my beloved EVOOO contract for defending the BGR posse. For some inexplicable reason
I was convinced that the iPhone 4 release came before our beloved EVO when, in all actuality, the EVO was, well to quote the commercials, “First”. Perhaps you are correct and we’ve fallen to The Third Reich and pretty soon we will all be in gas chambers that never will have existed when they re-write the books in 60 years.

Your points above are very much appreciated. I would like to add that, in addition to Sprint becoming the Nation’s second largest carrier, AT&T will become Cingular (AGAIN) and merge with T-Mobile to continue a “Kids Are Free” program. Verizon will ultimately offer a similar program called “Seniors Are Free” for the Social Security sect’ since many of their phones are now flip phones with whapping 2mp cameras and, at least one phone, with the ever popular dedicated 911 button. And, to that vain, I would like to say, “Help, I’ve fallen and I can’t reach my flip phone!”
