Ousted HP CEO named co-president of Oracle

Business

Talk about landing on your feet. HP’s former CEO, Mark Hurd, was forced to resign after allegations of personal misconduct were made public by the company’s board. Hurd was sent packing with a mere $28 million in cash and stock for his efforts; efforts that lasted just over five years at HP. The forced resignation of Hurd was denounced as “cowardly” by Oracle CEO Larry Ellison, and now it looks like Ellison is putting his money where his mouth is. The AP is reporting that Hurd has been named co-president of Mr. Ellison’s company, Oracle. “Mark did a brilliant job at HP and I expect he’ll do even better at Oracle. There is no executive in the IT world with more relevant experience than Mark,” said Ellison. “Oracle’s future is engineering complete and integrated hardware and software systems for the enterprise.” Oracle is the top database reseller in the world and, with Hurd’s expertise, is looking to expand its business into different areas.

Just another hack who makes his personal $millions by cutting jobs, instead of creating jobs.

    • Chut Pata

Yes! He good a job because he was good at putting other people out of job.

This makes he rage so much

Man, that face has the potential to catch knuckles on sight alone.

Here I thought that randy guy from AT&T was the most likely candidate for knuckle catcher on appearance alone.

Is it just me who thinks this pic of him makes him looks like George Bush?

    Simply Brilliant. Bravo.

    What the F*ck?!

How do these people get paid so much money for being so inept, and then manage to get hired again?!

So sick of the corporate BS.

    • mangenius

Not sure why you say he is inept. He did a lot for HP – really did turn the company around

      • Mike Tyson

No he didn’t! He cut R&D and cut thousands of jobs to increase earnings. As much as everyone goes back and forth about Apple and Google at least they innovate and increase their earnings and stock prices on their innovation and products. This douche did none of that and is getting paid millions while thousands of former HP employees that he laid off are looking for jobs.

      • Darnell

Just maybe, Hurd made a hard call that had to be done? Before the company lost needed investment capital to work toward more innovation.

When in a sinking ship, tossing some of the extra weight is a good strategy. Buys time to plug the hole and usually makes it easier to do.

HP has just recently purchased Palm and is coming out with products that will leverage webOS.

Hurd had a good strategy going.

mike, your so right! well said. no real ceo’s any more, just accountants that have the ability to chop heads. no more innovator risk takers movers or shakers.

    • Chut Pata

Simple formula given by the Big 3 from Detroit. Cut R&D, get rid of loyal employees and outsource, and then bloat the profits to get a big fat bonus. Then leave the company to sink.

  • mangenius

and for the record I believe it was his predecessor who was cutting jobs and doing the international outsourcing – cant remember her name at this moment, but definitely wasnt the only way he ran the company

    • Mike Tyson

Fiorina or however her name is spelled im sure did some of it too, but so did this loser.

  • George Curious

Way to help your buddy Larry. Never has there been better evidence of the Old Boys Network at play.

  • APlayerfromtheHimalya

Actually he executed Carly’s plan fairly well, and road the wave for a good bit. He also divested some of the debt to WAY beyond 2012, and made the NPV look really good. Plus people suddenly trust HP more than DELL. I see some purchases in the future for Oracle (major acquisitions). HP’s problems started with Carly’s purchase of Compaq….

    • Chut Pata

But his powerful lobby would not acknowledge that. The long term destruction he did for short term profits, would be face by next CEO. When the next CEO will invest in future, thereby showing smaller profit and not getting bonuses, he will be projected as an incompetent CEO, and a** h**** will remember the “golden days” when Hurd was CEO. When the time to reap profits would come, there would be a Hurd-II who would show his muscles by doing what Hurd-I did.

  • MadSkillz

Good Old Boys Network at work folks.

  • Clem

Looks like HP just sued him for breech of his severance agreement.

Nice.. if he works is in GREAT TOP order. who cares about the case. woman should lose rights well atleast most of them. woman should have to work for there rights.

His new Oracle salary is looking pretty lame:
    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100908/ap_on_hi_te/us_oracle_hurd_salary

A good bit less than his HP salary: http://www.siliconbeat.com/2009/01/20/2522/

The Oracle salary is very dependent on company performance. Well, he’s definitely going to slice and dice some heads at Oracle to make the numbers, that’s for certain.
