General

It looks like video of the yet-to-be-released Internet Explorer 9 has surfaced on the web. The browser, which is scheduled to launch in beta next week, is seen sporting a new, cleaner user interface and scoring a 95 out of 100 on the Acid 3 browser test. We’ve got the 77 second video for you after the break, let us know if Microsoft’s latest iteration of IE is conjuring up thoughts about cheating on Chrome, Firefox, or Opera.

    I.E 9 FTW!

  • Deeko

Everything I’ve seen about IE9 loos positive. Cleaner UI, much faster, much more standards compliant. I know its “geek cool” to hate IE, but seriously people – try to actually have an open mind and wait to actually see the product before passing judgement.

I agree it’s “geek cool” to hate Microsoft in general and we should be more open to their releases. But I hate them as a developer to, and that’s a more than legitimate hate. I’ve heard them promise better compliance for YEARS now. At this point I’ll believe it when I see it. It can be as fast and sleek as anything else out there, but until it actually saves developers time, money, and misery assume it’s more garbage.

  • longcat

    Looks very nice

  • Mr. Bill

I will use it for sure along with chrome.

    Bring it to us MS.

  • DroidSucks

ms is sooooooo last decade…and even then they sucked.

    • Mikey

They were the first to talk about or get hardware accelerated graphics in a browser if I recall… Yeah last decade.

      • Mario

Either that’s way over my head or does not make sense.

  • IE forever

I will switch over, chrome sucks, firefox sucks, safari is good, opera forget it, ya people who is with the chrome and the fox dont know jack.bunch of loosers lol

    • Mitch

Does IE not have spell check? At least us people using other browsers can spell.

    • Mikey

Your evaluation seems flawed as you provide no evidence.

Chrome is the most secure browser available today and pretty damn fast too boot. Opera is very fast but doesn’t display all websites properly (Though all I visit are fine). Safari is slow and memory hungry and rather horrid. Firefox isn’t amazingly secure and needs too many extensions to make it a nice browser. These slow it down and make it less secure and less stable.

For me I use Chrome, Opera and IE. I can see this swinging it more towards IE as I have been using the platform preview for months and quite like it.

  • Soapinmouth

My 2.2 android cell phone browser gets 93…

  • PAPINYC

This will be great for the nine, or so, people on Acid who will actually use it.
Also, will be great for the penny loafer crowd.

  • Mr Curious

IE9. ha. lets see benchmark and performance test

    • Mikey

They’re already available for the platform preview and the beta is going to be better.
Try looking rather than having a go for no reason.

If you want to see them look yourself your attitude doesn’t warrant me providing links.

Acid test isnt out of 100, 100 is the completion of the test. what matters is how fast and smooth it runs from 0-100 hitting 95 is a fail, even my blackberry browser hits 100.

    • SBD

IE9 does 95 rather cleanly, but it’s still in development. I won’t assume that M$ will smooth it out, but I hope so. I like Chrome best, but in defense of M$’s IE, it does not hit more than 95 only because of a few relic SVG font and animation technologies that are being reconsidered for continued inclusion in the Acid test in the future due to their declining relevance.

  • nick.stud

    chrome = 100.

  • Ryan

Firefox 94/100. ip4 100/100 and safari on my computer 100/100. If you dont get a 100 its a fail

  • kegman

My work computer has ie6 on it still. Thank god chrome installed on it but on IE6 the test is just purple with 12/100 score. it even has red text that says “YOU SHOULD NOT SEE THIS” lol

    • Mr. Bill

Current version of IE is about the same.

Opera Mobile 10, on a older WM device 97/100,
default PIE is about same as desktop.

My god, how could this be IE?

      Shame.

  • agrajag9

Seriously? Still only 95/100? Every other major browser has been getting 100+ for years. Micro$haft needs to get their s*** together.

    • bob

yea like that’s EVER gonna happen

    • Mike

Chrome clocked in @ 78/100 which beat firefox

The Acid3 test is NOT a very comprehensive test of standards. It’s fragmented and tests a little bit of everything, and not necessarily the most important parts of everything. IE9 does 95 rather cleanly, but it’s still in development. In defense of M$’s IE9, it does not hit more than 95 only because of a few relic SVG font and animation technologies that are being reconsidered for continued inclusion in the Acid test in the future due to their declining relevance. Though they seem to miss the bus a lot, M$ is not completely unskilled.

  • bob

Why don’t they just rename it ” Kin “….
    i heard that name’s available

  • Marco

What’s the big deal, my iPod touch reaches 100/100!

    • Hmm

And 0/100 when it comes to Flash developed sites.

      • VieW

Is there honestly any mobile browser that runs all flash properly? Please point us to the article that shows all the flash content working well on a mobile phone.

IMO Adobe’s argument will be mute until they can make it a success on the majority of smartphones; until then Apple’s statement appears to be correct.

      • lol

You must be an iPhone owner.

Sent from my Adobe iPad CS6

  • Evo runs full flash!

My Evo running froyo 2.2 runs flash better than my netbook! I think all new android phones running 2.2 or higher will prove to the the forbiden fruit(apple) that flash is very good on the mobile platform.

  • Logan

Yeah, I have to say I will be be sticking with Safari on my Win7 laptop. It runs so smooth, hardly any loading times even with large amounts of flash and javascript.

  • http://justinpaine.com xxdesmus

That’s the old out of date UI I might add — it’ll look slightly different when the beta is released next week.

  • michaele

    Does anyone care?

  • http://c3dude.wordpress.com c3dude

no. It doesn’t have apple or google in it. Microsoft is now floating underneath all the ire that used to be aimed at it. They’ve found something new to bash.
