Android mobile web presence continues to rise

General

Quantacast has released their mobile web consumption numbers for August 2010, and Android continues to perform extremely well. The study shows that the Android web market-share grew 2.0% from July to August and has grown 5.5% on the quarter. The jump gives Android a 25% share of all mobile web consumption. Apple’s iOS dropped 0.3% from July to August, however, iOS is still the front-runner with 56% of all mobile web consumption. BlackBerry maker Research In Motion registered 10% of the mobile web pie; a pie that will continue to grow as more and more people adopt and use smartphones.

Matt Leinart uses and endorses Android.

He said he needed a device that didn’t drop calls just in case his agent tried to reach him with another job after he was canned from the Cards.

It worked! He signed a deal with Houston…..LOL

The chart is interesting, but they should also show how the each platform is doing in total as well (as opposed to just the relative numbers). I suspect that this would show that both iOS and Android are growing, just at different rates.

LOL. RIM falling falling falling. And this is just the beginning. Watch in the next 2 quarters what happens to that graph. Torch my ass. LOL

The only way i could see apple coming out on top is to let people jailbreak there phone with warranty or make ios 4.1 open like the jailbreak iphones sys. But that’s shooting for the stars. Lol steve jobs would never let that one happen. So android wins ;-)

All Apple has to do is release the iphone to multiple carriers along with Ipad data…no one will be able to catch up. Android has multiple devices on multiple networks. Cannot compare…

      • unknown

Apple already has the iphone on multi carriers. The United States is one of the only countries that doesn’t have iphone across the board.

here in Canada we have it everywhere, even on our budget brands like fido

    Pretty subjective stats.

How many Quantacast sites are there in China for example?

Means nothing in the grand scheme of things, but it’s how Quantacast makes money I guess so you can’t blame them.

What is missed in the story is the improved compression that RIM uses in their PROXY that – as is easy to see here – dramatically reduces bandwidth demands on carrier networks by a factor of 5 or more..

After seeing how iOS swamped AT&T networks in Metro area, I’ll bet carriers are cringing when they see the dramatic trending rise in Android demands on their networks.

A fantasy projection using a straight line average shows the “Robot” eating the “Apple” March of 2011.

    Does others include Winmo ??

“…however, iOS is still the front-runner with 56% of all mobile web consumption.”

Wasn’t RIM easily the frontrunner a few years ago? Ahem.

Who really gives a shit? now you douche bags are fighting over who’s os gets more browser share? Please go get a life.

Being a graph on web consumption, all this really tells you is that more the younger users, who heavily utilize the mobile browser on their phone are moving from iPhones to Android phones, because for no other reason, they are the current popular trend.

This really has nothing to do with overall device or OS popularity.

Now if you were building devices for that generation… this information might be telling you something.

People buy Androids for two reasons
    1) Can’t afford AT

    • Mathy Math

People who don’t buy Android systems can’t count to 2.
