Reuters: Google to have music service up and running by December 25th

General

Reuters is reporting that Google’s VP of Engineering, Andy Rubin, has been conducting talks with record labels in an attempt to launch an online music service “before Christmas.” The publication cites two sources familiar with the matter, and states that although record industry insiders are excited about the possibility of Apple and Google clashing on the digital music front, Google has yet to ink deals with any record labels. “Finally here’s an entity with the reach, resources and wherewithal to take on iTunes as a formidable competitor by tying it into search and Android mobile platform. What you’ll have is a very powerful player in the market that’s good for the music business,” said an anonymous record label executive. One thing is for certain, if Google wishes to play the role of David by Christmas time, it is going to need some labels in its arsenal… and soon.

really? so tell me why google stopped selling it after 4 months? and google specifically said that it was due to poor sales that they stopped production

Explain then why they sold out to developers after they stopped sales….its because people still wanted it. The fact is carriers did NOT like having a phone that wasn’t exclusive to them. They didn’t advertise it and they really didn’t do much in the way of even promoting it in store. The N1 died because it tried a different method of being sold. Unlike Apple who doesn’t try anything new. Same different crap over and over and over again with a new something thrown in to make their cattle thing OMG revolutionary. Not.

Google IS evil as evidenced by their attempt to subvert net-neutrality with secret talks with verizon. I don’t know if they will be like stalin’s socialism or like Marxism but they are out to control through loads and loads of freebees that someday is going to give us all false teeth

Wow, is it one or the other? I use both, I have a Mac and I also use a PC, not a fan of the Iphone, but I have a touch and a nano, I love my Droid X . I love competition, with out it why would companies come out with the newest and best , so quickly, they always have to out do each other. With out choice in the market place would we see such advancements. I do remember reading the Google music will be free to get songs, I think it will compete with Apple, perhaps bring down the retail price that Apple charges , They charge too much for books. I think I will use both, I like choice. ( think the issues are apple is self contained and lots of folks are willing to over pay for 100% compatibility.) I am not always willing to do this, I have free will and will to pay less

They have yet to “ink any deals” with *any* of the labels, but you think they’re going to have a full-fledged iTunes-killer available by Christmas? You’re dreaming.

I do like the headline though: “Google to have music service up and running by December 25th” – really? That’s a statement of fact, made the more realistic by the inclusion of a firm date, yet the Google music store is nothing but a rumor.
