Angry Birds public beta coming to Android Market on Friday

Software

The gang over at Talk Android have gotten the scoop from Rovio — makers of Angry Birds – about their immediate plans for Google’s mobile OS. In an email to TA, Rovio writes:

This week, we were planning to run a closed beta test of Angry Birds Lite for Android. Due to the massive response and demand from the Android community, we have decided to make Angry Birds Lite Beta available for everybody through the Android Market this Friday.

Please note that this will be the beta version of the application which is still undergoing final testing before official release. Angry Birds Lite Beta is presented on an “as is” basis, and we cannot guarantee its functionality on every Android device.

Excellent news for all those Android fanatics who just can’t get enough of the addicting, bird-slinging, green pig-slaying game (present company included). Android user productivity begins its steep decline on Friday; who’s excited?

Hell Yea! I signed up for the Beta today thinking there was no way I would get in, I see the droid gods have answered my prayers

  • Mike

Yeah…as much as I hate Apple…I couldn’t resist buying the new iPod Touch soooo I guess this news is a little less than exciting to me…

  • Zach

Thank heavens, a great game for Android. Don’t get me wrong, there are some fun games, but this will be the first that is actually top tier iPhone quality. I love Android, and can’t wait to see this game succeed, and hopefully suck in some more goodies down the road.

  • Ryan

Nice… Angry Birds is fun, but I want WordsWithFriends! Cross-Platform, while you’re at it!

    • Stephen

WordFeud is a very good replacement.

  • PAPINYC

Walterrrr…. Is that you in the ‘Red’ ?????
    You still look lost.

    • WalterSobchak

You are an interesting little character Papi.
Every time I see your name I can’t stop thinking about that episode of cops where that crackhead won’t stop calling the cop w/ the flattop “papi”. The cop sstarts screaming at him and threatining him like he’s gonna hulk smash him
Cop: “IF YOU CALL ME PAPI ONE MORE TIME!!!”
      Crackhead: “ay… sorrieee papi”

      • PAPINYC

You sound like an ‘Angry Bird’ or a Big Red Vagina.
Are you ready for your Pap smear ??

      • PAPINYC

        P.S.
Sounds like you watch waaaaaaaaay’ too much television ?

      • WalterSobchak

        On my death bed I will still say “I wish…. I could’ve ……..watched……more TV…..”

  • Sonya

I guess I can put my iPod Touch down now. It’s getting more useless everyday it seems.

    • Jarrett

You don’t have an iPod Touch.

      • theking25

        you dont have a life

      • Abdul

I don’t comment much, but I read them and this chick (probably a dude) is always on the Apple pages talking sh*t about Apple. A total hack.

      • Sonya

Give me your email and I’ll send you a pic with my name right next to it.

      • Willis

        PHOTOSHOP!!!!!!!!!!!

      • Sonya

How about a nice video then. I don’t understand I have no purpose for iPod Touch anymore just because I strictly play angry birds and doodle jump and it’s blasphemy.

And Abdul if you read any of my other comments you would know that I was going to get the iPhone 4 before the antenna issue arose. I also plan to try WebOS simply because I’m all about trying new OS’s unlike many of the fanboys on here that limit themselves to one OS. So you don’t know me, thanks though.

      • Willis

I went from BREW to Android. I try new OSs.

    • alex

how good is this? I am clueless

  • AtlHarry

Gingerbread? Who cares? Android is now complete.

  • Darron

YES YES..i love angry birds !

  • Norm

YES, MORE PROOF DROID IS BETTER THAN IPHONE. ANOTHER POINT FOR DROID DOES !!! ! !!! !!! !! !!!

    • WalterSobchak

Not going by TYPICAL APPLE HATING DBAG anymore?

      • Stan James

Walt, you not going by BACK DOOR MEAT LOCKER anymore?

  • WalterSobchak

This must be a pretty good game it has gotten a writeup on all the android sites, phandroid, androidandme, androidcentral

  • jonathan

Love this game, simple yet challenging all at the same time especially in the higher levels when you have limited birds to bring down the pigs.

  • Jarrett

Not sure I understand the “Public Beta”. Since I don’t use Android could someone explain to me why you have to Beta test your product with Android? Isn’t the SDK simple enough that you write your program and then release it?

But yeah, this is a pretty cool and addicting game. The last update was very limited in new “level” (no s on that). So my guess is that my iOS updates of Angry Birds have been slowed by Android’s “much different” SDK?

    • xxx

You really put a lot of time & effort into trolling.

      • Abdul

you put a lot of time into getting upset over points of view that are not pro-Android, but no one is calling you out.

    • menno

Public Beta: In Apple terms, this is like them releasing a new piece of hardware to customers and letting those first gen customers discover everything that is wrong with the device. (I was a “beta” tester with my first generation Macbook, apple put over 1k of work into it after purchase to get it running right)

Even with something as uniform as the iphone, it is impossible to accurately predict how it will work for all users. By putting the beta tag on the light release, they are telling customers that there might be bugs with the release because they are still optimizing it for Android.

If they release it without the beta tag and just go crazy with updates, they run the risk of turning customers away from the product.

  • Martin

    wOOt!

  • Mark

had it on my iphone for along time – whats an Android?

can Androids make phone calls yet?

    • WalterSobchak

Yeah, they have had the ability since day 1 w/ the g1. More often than not my iphone friends have to use my droid to either get service or make a call that will last longer than 20 seconds without dropping. I do have to show them how to access the dialer/contacts though, so take your shots at the complication, but not the cellular radio.

    • dario

Yes. And it doesn’t drop calls depending on how you hold it. Has Apple gotten around that one yet?

  • Neo

It’s going to fail cause it is not free, yes every body knows you(fandroids) cheap basters don’t like to pay for apps.

    • running

I have an iphone 4 and im a cheap bastard who doesnt like to pay for apps. Whats the point?

    • destardi

Well, as an Android lover, I for one do not brush delicious olive oil over turkeys, hams or any other type of meat, so I’m not sure why you’re calling us all ‘basters’.

  • Choco Taco

The thing I love about android apps is that its so easy to steal them and load them, where is its a lot harder with Apple. I hate Apple mostly because you have to pay.

    • Jarrett

So you hate a corporation because they make it difficult for you to steal from their partners? Honestly, what sort of person uses that logic. Do you steal cars also when you need a ride? Do you rob banks when you need money? Do you steal bread when you are hungry. HEY, your that little son of a bitch that skipped out on paying your bill at the Sizzler aren’t you????!!!!

  • reusable

I’ll settle for the elusive 2.2 update instead.

  • joe

how come it’s already on webos?

  • greg

    it’s friday!
