Good…..now how about those firmware updates?

    • Sausage and Mayonaise

LOL at anyone who bought one of these Samaung iphone knockoffs. You will wait, wait, and wait even longer for Samaung to get any update out, if they ever even release one. Behold II?!?!?!?!

      • dario

I didn’t know the iPhone had such a remarkable screen, I mean, this is a knock off right? The screen blows the iPhone4 screen away so if anything the iPhone is lagging in that area.

But yeah, I know Sammy’s rep. I dived into this head first not expecting Sammy to do squat. Fast phone, incredible screen, plays video like no other. Good enough for me. For now.

      • Teco221

At least other Androids try to look different then iPhone but this phone is just like something out of China knock off iPhone. It’s just disgusting!

      • Channan

Ever thought maybe some people actually like that design? Or does every phone have to your favorite design to be successful?

      • Veb

When I picked up Sunday Newspaper, I glanced Best Buy ads. I was mistaking Galaxy S for iPhone 3GS. So, if it’s not a copy-cat action, then I have no idea what “Copy” this word means at all.

I would give credit to HTC or Motorola, at least they are trying to make their own phones, but Samsung is just disgrace in every aspect with this phone.

      • Sausage and Mayonaise

Iphone 4′s screen > anything Samaung….not to mention Android has proven to be a waste.

      • Mr MN

I think you’re right about that. These Galaxy phones look very identical to the iphones, from the design of the body to the ui. Look at where those icons are placed. Look at how the main menu move horizontally instead of vertically, like the normal Android menu. Another clear example is the Samsung Galaxy Tab compared to the iPad. Even the charger of the Galaxy Tab looks like that of the iPad.
It looks like they’re copying from Apple and adding and changing a few things to avoid copyright lawsuits.

      • Mr MN

Feel free to disagree with me, but please click this link and check out this video of the Galaxy Tab. It should help better explain what I mean.

Oh MN and Sausage. Shut your big stupid fat mouths. Silly idiots.

You should actually pick up the phone before judging it. Have you even seen the Galaxy S phones for at&t or for Sprint? I doubt it. The Epic 4G has a slide out keyboard. Your right, that’s just like the iPhone.. idiots..

Also regarding the UI, take a look at swype the widgets and Flash Player that the Android has and the iPhone never will.. Oops..

      • Allen Walker

Mr MN, I apologize that I clumped you together with the rest of the iPhone douchery.. I respect your right to argue your point and retract my statement about your being an overweight Apple fan with an iPhone 4 in hand and a 3GS up your ass.

Although I can see where you think it looks like a knock off, they actually barely show the phone/pad at all. If you have a chance, check out some home screen shots of the Galaxy S series..

      • Mr. MN

Just so you know, I’m not anti Apple but I have never bought any of their products because I was always able to find something else that did the same thing for a lower price. I don’t own an iPhone 4, I own an HTC device running Android. I’ve had a chance to play around with the Samsung Vibrant and I could see the similarities (besides the screen).

      • Sausage and Mayonaise

Allen, you and Sprint suck. Its an iphone knockoff even if you add a keyboard. The TouchUrine interface puts it over the top in the knockoff category.

      • justme

so what you are saying is that any phone that is rectangular in nature is a knockoff of the iphone? i mean the razr was rectangular in nature. does that mean that the iphone is a knockoff of the razr? also it isnt a one button on the bezzel design so how exactly is it a knockoff??? come on man you can do better than that

      Morning Meeting at Samsung

Marking: Great news! We can send out a press release to state that we have shipped over 1 Million units of Galaxy S!!

CEO: Great! My strategy worked. Since we can;t get iOS on our devices, we can just copy the hardware to confuse average consumers.

R & D: But we are Samsung, Shouldn’t we come out with our own idea?

CEO: Our own idea? We make cheap product to imitate other people and it has been working for us. Just look around, cars, and electronic devices, average people only care about price not quality, as long as we are making it better then Knock-off products then we will be fine.

      R & D:……

Marketing: Our next step is to make it $0.99 on Amazon.com then it’s Buy One Get One free by the end of quarter, we can show even bigger number!

      CEO: Excellent!

Accounting: But Sir…. we will make no profit… Profit margin will be so small.

CEO: Don’t worry we have other department to cover the profit and also all those Telecom will pay to cover basic cost of the phone then we can install any crapwares on the phone and charge a fee for it!!

      • Cha-Ching

        You forgot to add…..

CEO: The $$$$ we make from our TV sales will cover the cost of only making only .99 cents on Amazon!

  • david

    first

    • Channan

      No I’m first!

  • david

BTW, the title of this article should be changed. Samsung SHIPPED, not SOLD, 1 million.

    • Andrew Munchbach

      Agreed and done. Thank you.

      • jonathan

        Yes, shipped not sold!

  • Hollaman

This is great, but samsung has always made terrible quality products and is no where near good enough to compete with apple, rimm, motorola and the other major players.

    • dario

Yeah, and people say the same about Motorola, RIM, Apple.

I personally think HTC makes the best quality products while Motorola makes the worst – Apple trailing at number 2. Heck, my old Blackjack2 and CDMA Pocketpc slider from Sammy still rocks to this day. Pretty good quality if it can take a beating and still plug away.

The Captivate is very nice. Very high quality. So does that mean I am right and you are wrong? No, it means nothing. Just as long as you like your phone.

  • Jarrett

I agree with the shipped vs sold thought up above. Also, 45 days? I would say this should only be an item of interest if they had shipped say 1.7 (+1) million in the phones first three days on sale.

Just saying. Impressive sales are only impressive when they are more impressive than the most previous impressive.

    • Mr. Bill

      Apple Troll.

Just saying, it’s pretty impressive when you think, it’s a pile of people not interested in a Icrap phone.

It’s time has come an passed, just the stubborn ones hanging on to its former fad glory.

      • Jarrett’s Illegitimate son

        Hey dad,

Has Apple sold one Billion mobile phones yet? Have they sold 200 million? How about 150 million? How about 145 million?

        Whats that? They haven’t?

Oh thats right. I forgot. It was NOKIA who did all that.

        My bad.

  • http://www.blackberrysoftware.co.cc 4gig

    The AccuWeather apps looks promising….

  • Legion

I can’t wait until I can upgrade my captivate so my GPS will actually work.

  • Fascinated with Android

Im waiting for the Fascinate. Im just going to download Maps and Google search from the market. I bet a Verizon model will make a huge difference in those numbers. Go Sammy and go Androiiiiiid! :D

  • SaggyBalls

There’s a lot of Apple trolls hangin’ out in here this morning. Don’t feed the trolls people, it only makes them stronger. Let ‘em starve to death.

    • tech junkie for life

So says the man with saggy balls…!

    • Steve Jobs

You wish you had an iphone, but you can’t because of either your job at Verizon, too poor too afford it all, or you’re only hope at real friends is to get one of these crap phone and talk on here about them.

      • justme

yes because only rich people have iphones lol… thats funny concidering you can get an iphone cheaper than you can get these devices… And atleast I can use my phone to talk without samsungs ceo having to hold a press conference to tell me im holding my phone wrong and that their isnt anything wrong with it.. only to hold a later press conference saying that their is something wrong with it

  • Jason LI

Let’s see how long it takes to sell those shipped iPhone clones. c’mon Samsung. Get some originality. How about copying the Evo.

Posted from BGR Mobile (iPhone) at: Holtsville Americas

  • Allen Walker

Oh Jason and Steve.. Shut your silly overweight mouths and read my above post..

  • Digitaltouch

Picking up two samsung epic’s tomorrow. Can’t wait!

  • ken

Hmmm, I wonder how the 4G Epic on Sprint will do tomorrow?

  • Bada Bing

    WOW!

They shipped a million phones! Very Impressive!

I wonder how many have been sold.

    To like Non Koreans

For like more than $1.99 on Amazon

For like less than Buy One get 23 Free.

A million shipped though is still a very impressive stat and very newsworthy!

Way to keep up with useful news BGR!

  • nick

our samsung rep said two days ago that the captivate will get the gps fix and froyo in september.

  • Mojo

Good luck on that update! It’s in the mail!

Gen Custer had better luck getting support from the Calvary than Samsung gives to their devices after their sold.

    It’s just their M.O

  • Alvin

I never played or seen the Galaxy phones but I have owned an iphone before. The iphone is nice however most of the hardware comes from samsung. The A4 chip and some other components. I will never go back to att. Not just because of the dropped calls but also the cap on the data. 2GB for $25 is not gonna cut it for me period.

  • Darwin

Shipped is not sold. I love the screen though. Maybe the Verizon version will have the issues fixed.

  • nick

2GB cuts it for 98% of att’s customers. Dont worry the rest of the carriers will follow, verizon is next.

  • MadSkillz

Thats great. But I think people are more interested in how many were sold.

  • Brotha Darcness

This phone is awesome and there is no getting around it. Yes it may resemble and Iphone 3GS, slightly! The fact remains, its does things the 3GS wish it could. The 4″ screen is absolutely amazing with 3.5″ acceptable and 4.3″ is overkill; colors are bright and sharp. Loading music and pics took little or not effort and even though it has a plastic-removal battery cover, the device is as solid as it gets. Its so light weight that it feels as if you can squeeze it to death. Not a chance, its a Sherman Tank! No skeakiness or loose parts. The sliding door on top to cover the charging part is a small, but a nice touch.

I will go out on a limb and say that I like this phone more then my Nexus One and like everyone else that has the priviledge of owning one, we swear by the darn thing.

The only thing I dislike about the phone is the placement of the screen lock/on and off button. Also, it would be nice if it has a physical camera button, but overrall I can live withou it. Caveat about the camera, the night mode takes spectacular photos, but you have to test for yourself. I’ll admit that I was skeptical, but now I’m a believer.

Verdict, Sammy hit a grand slam with this thing.

  • Droid Lover

    Love is the answer!

  • Cha-Ching

Jobs had a one night stand the last time he was in Korea.

9 months later The Galaxy was born

  • DonnyD

Is android os still around? Cause I think its Horrible!!!!

  • Nico

Sure it’s a iPhone knockoff. From the shape to the UI…
I just love how Samsung copied the iphones widgets.

Oh wait, iPhone doesn’t have widgets
