Apple iPod nano cases in production, surprise no one

Audio

Well, well, well… That rumored touch screen square iPod nano is looking pretty solid right about now. Thanks to our lovely friends in manufacturing in Asia, 3rd party cases have started showing up online for the new iPod nano device. We’re not talking just one either, more like a whole heap — every color possible, too. In addition to cases, there is also a mockup along with sizing dimensions that has surfaced as well. We have to ask, is an incredibly small touchscreen iPod nano something that interests you, or will you stick to an iPod shuffle? Image of one of the cases after the break!

UPDATE: As one of our readers points out… what if this is just Apple’s new Shuffle? Would be pretty amazing, right?

All touchscreen nano? Um no thanks. I know touchscreen is the new “thing.” But everything is not meant to have a touch screen especially something so small.. how am I suppose to see what I am touching if my finger is in the way?

With the new $25 Apple iStylus. Why $25? Because it’s stylish.

The Nano has been their best selling iPod for years.

They just added a video camera to the last Nano and it’s now got widescreen video playback.

I can’t see them neutering the Nano so soon.

This is probably a new Shuffle. And the Nano will be something different.

What about some mystery buyer signing a deal with pico projector to embed in a personal player in 2009? They said they would reveal in end of 2010.
So is the iPod classic gonna have a projector in it?

And cue iduct tape comments, out of context Steve Jobs qoutes, and Android fanboy jealousy/anger……

    • StevenHamburg

be quiet you clown! this has nothing to do with android. it has nothing to do with any phone os (not even iOS).

      i like apple’s mp3 players.

      • Ummm

        Bravo! Well said!

      @Sausage and Mayonaise

      Silence troll.

I can read Android threads in relative peace, but Apple stories turn into chaos. BGR already seems scared to write Apple stories because of these Apple haters and Fandroids. I’ve even seen a streak of 20+ non-Apple stories in a row and then one Apple story and still the haters bring the douchery.

We know you don’t like anything Apple okay. Honestly Shut up Already.

  • WalterSobchak

Thats kind of neat. It’s screen is probably not much smaller, if any, than the click wheel on the current nano. I think it could work.

  • Legion

All the apple fan boys are probably buying lube right about now.

    • Oh Blah Dee Blah Dah

That’s right, because they are going to put it to all the Zune and Archos users!

  • Flem

TH3ON3, I agree. Too small for someone w/ fat fingers.

  • Kar

Chinese like small stuff like Ipod Nano. It makes them feel bigger.

  • http://theiloop.com Mike

If Shuffle is going to be like that then thats Awesome

    • MadSkillz

Agreed. It makes the shuffle much better abd it can give visual feed back like album art. Tiny as it may be.

  • StevenHamburg

i really hope this is not the shuffle. i bought my 2nd gen shuffle because i just wanted music, nothing else. (that’s why most people buy the shuffle).

as a nano replacement it might actually be kinda neat.

    • Merle

I hope it is a new shuffle. I bought my shuffle for the same reason as you, but refused to buy a 2nd gen because it required special apple headphones to work. I’d love to be able to finally upgrade my shuffle.

  • Marvin

How will one be able to view it in the sun….screens suck in sunny weather – sorry – I’ll keep my old Nano…

    • Michael S

Ummmm… your old Nano has a screen too…

  • SmallAsian

Ohhhhh, You Americans have very big……… NANOS/SHUFFLES!!!!

  • Bill

This thing is totally awesome, I’ve been considering replacing my Sony Discman since ’94

  • oldtaku

At this point I think the nano and the shuffle would no longer need to be separate products. This could replace them both. Unless they think not having a display is really a positive – the latest Shuffle will actually /speak/ the song and artist names to you, at which point the ridiculous shark has been jumped. The only question would be the cost here.

  • blkrabb1t

Its not the nano. Why would apple want to take off the features they added on the last update, and make the screen smaller as a result? Its probably the shuffle.

  • Bill

What’s with everyone saying jump the shark lately?

    • DROIDpad

a bunch of tech losers started saying it a lot

    • doug

looks like Bill just jumped the shark.

(I did when I failed basic math last week.)

  • Darren

Minor point but the main picture and the second picture of the supposed case don’t match up at all. Look at the curved corners and the volume up/down holes. Not that the story is completely wrong. Just visually they don’t match.

    • http://faithreasontruth.com Worth

Also, unless the dock and headphone connectors are on the side instead of the bottom, the volume buttons would need to be on top, based on the case openings. Which means that render is nothing more than a fanciful shrunken square iPhone 4. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

  • BruthaBeige

FOOL, that is not an official render… take a look at the iPhone 4 “valley of death” antenna…. why would they have that on an ipod? hmmmm?

  • Jordan

Maybe its a whole new class of iPod? iPod Touch Mini or something maybe? I really hope this isnt the new nano or shuffle… It looks too big to be a shuffle and too small for a nano

  • Bill

I researched jump the shark and now I am a big fan of it. It is from the Happy Days episode where Fonz jumped a shark on water skies.

    • BigNerd

I think a more current term is “Nuke the Fridge”.

  • Steve

It looks more like a frame than a case. Why no back to it?

  • Alex

The reason my latest iPod purhcase was a Nano and not a iTouch is because I hate having to pull my iPod out when I’m working out (weights, running, etc.). The scroll wheel let’s me control my Nano without the need to view it (which is impossible with the iTouch, unless you spend an arm and a leg on a remote).

  • Bill

@Alex, you ever notice the people that talk about working out are often the most slovenly?

  • serpentor

I’m glad they are going to give it dedicated volume control. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve blasted my ears because I was trying to adjust the track.

  • Bob

hopefully a shuffle, or maybe it will be a WHOLE NEW IPOD?!?!?! O_o
    :O

    • Bob

      IPOD MINI RETURNS!?!?!>!??!

      • Not Bob

        iPod Mini Touch :D
