Palm Pre over-clocked to 1 GHz

If Palm — now HP — is going to take their sweet time bringing you new hardware, you might as well work with what you’ve got, no? PreCentral is reporting that a new UberKernel hack for your aging Palm Pre can get the pebble-shaped cell phone running at a blistering 1 GHz. The site describes a Pre running at this new, and improved, speed as “blazingly fast.” The kernel hack also has a handy feature called “screenstate overclocking,” which spins your processor up to a full 1 GHz when the screen is on, and back down to its intended speed when the screen is off. If you are thinking about giving this a shot, be careful. A cell phone designed to run at around 600 MHz, running at close to 1 GHz, could melt a hole right through your Levis!

    for the record I run the SR07 1.2ghz kernal on my sprint pre and I get 6 hours of battery life on moderate use which is higher then even the droid X with its 1ghz processor. since the last update to 1.4.5 there are no battery issues at all when compared to the massess. Though when the two new devices launch on sprint this fall (both slider, and slab) with retna displys, glass, and 1.2ghz omap processor people will jump on the wagon.

    I have to agree.. I have had every cell phone – from all the BB – even tourch – Iphones 2,3,4 and the Androids…. all from incredible to X to Droid 2 that I currently have.

    They all have pluses and minuses…. But I have always really really liked the Palm PRE plus… I am a verizon user…. ATT sucks were I live – so that is the reason for selling my iphone 4.

    But Android just isnt enough for me… its just missing that smooth, true multi tasking – and smooth moving through apps – and Gaming is no were near IOS or WebOS.

    So I am trading my Droid 2 in for the new Palm Pre Plus before they are all gone… and will stay with that until Verizon gets the iphone…. or until a new Palm comes out. Tired of jumping from Droid to Droid… and never being fully happy. SO BACK TO PRE…. PLUS FREE Hot Spot for my IPAD… CANT BEAT THAT!!!!!

    Web OS is really nice, but it will have little market impact until HP can design better hardware and get app developers on board.

    where can I find Hack and instructions to get my pre plus verizon running at 1ghz with uberkernal…. Need for more speed… Hooefully without big battery hit…

    My Pre is so fast now that it makes me feel invincible. LOL. Govnah and this new 1Ghz UberKernel, work great together.

    I still have my Sprint Palm Pre. I am now using the Iphone 4. If the Palm Pre had a bigger screen and more useful apps I would still be with it today.

    The best thing the Iphone has going for it are all the apps and the battery life.

    What is the big deal? Been running Droids at 1.2-1.3GHz forever.. The kernels can scale all the way down to 125mhz on demand, or via the use of hard profiles to lower the speed based on screen, battery, temp, etc.

    It’s amazing..After I upgraded to 1Ghz….its blazing fast. I really doubt about the other devices including iPhone 4.

    palm pre plus is excellent with 1ghz. No battery decrase. It is same as when it was running with 500 mgz.

    Now..I really love my palm pre plus. I don’t think in near future I will move from webOS and Plam deveices.

    Quality is first…
