Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 user manual outed by FCC

General

Thanks to the FCC, the user manual for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 has hit the interwebs. The device, which was first announced back in June, packs a 3″ HVGA display, 3.2 megapixel camera, A-GPS, Wi-Fi, 128 MB of internal memory, 600 MHz processor, and Android 1.6 with SE’s UX UI. The device has the 850 MHz and 1900 MHz 3G HSPA bands, which makes AT&T a likely landing spot for this little number. However, we’re starting to wonder how many mid-level Android devices can fit into AT&T’s smartphone portfolio. The PDF is live on the FCC’s website and can be downloaded directly using this link. Thoughts?

    1.6, A-GPS, 3.2mp, 3″ screen, that’s a whole bunch of underwhelming tech……

Why is SE’s so set on releasing nice phones with great UI yet os 1.6??????????
This phone like the X10 wont break any sales records with 1.6. Bummer!

It does not surprise me that ATT is exploiting the lower end Android devices. Their main intent currently, is to stifle as much of the competition for the iPhone as much as possible. The iPhone is a great device but ATT subs are being left out I’m the cold when it comes to Android choices. Every other carrier offers high end Android phones while ATT shrugs them off. If Android isnt such a threat to the iPhone, why does ATT not support it rather than quell its existence on its network?

Captivate, Streak, and their WM7 lineup all compete directly with the iPhone and in many cases surpass it.

You can’t blame AT&T for 1.6 since they don’t manufacture it but you can blame AT&T for their horrible data plans which are required for these horrid spec’d phones.

AT&T is getting themselves a nice selection of Android phones and to me that is perfectly fine. Nothing wrong with more available options just work on the data plans.

      • Verizon has already said they plan to do similar data plans.

I have three iPhones on my acct and was grandfathered in to the 30$ unlimited. I changed mine and my daughters to the $25 data because in the last 3 years of iPhones, We have never used more than 500 MB, and my wife to the $15 data since she uses about 100mb a month bill is $25+tax cheaper every month! There is wi-fi everywhere, use it, it’s free.
I love AT&T’s new data packages.

AT&T is going to have to get chummy with Android, WinMo and whatever else may come down the tube when the iPhone jumps ship and makes itself available on other carriers which I have no doubt will happen somewhere in the not to distant future.

I’m starting to love SONY more and more. Better hardware than the Backflip and the Aria. I would love to get this phone. kinda sucks though it only have 1.6V in it. That’s why I’m not getting the X10 UNTIL SONY learns to update their phones to 2.2 or 2.1 like everyone else have.

    • Ernie

You are joking right? I mean, there’s NOTHING on this phone that doesn’t simply embarrass Sony and says “we (sony) are throwing in the towel” like this phone! This is an embarrassing piece.

I guess at&t is trying to destroy this holiday? They’ll have Android 1.6-2.1/2.2, W7P, iOS, WebOS, OS6, hopefully a Symbian^3/Meego[HOPEFULLY]…wow. We can hate on them all we want, but at&t is bringing it this winter…

I still hope to see at least one more high end Android hit AT&T. I’m sure Motorola and HTC have at least one surprise each for us by November.

So if Blackberry gets ripped for having a phone with a new OS, 528MB or whatever of RAM and a 624mhz chip, why is there not a chorus of ‘Android fail’ dudes chiming in to rant on this 128mb / 600mhz phone??

I think a large portion of the salivating ranting going on against Blackberry on this and a few similar blogs has been pushed by people with large short positions on the stock. Its a free, simple way to influence the market over time and I think these blogs have been used and abused this year by short sellers, for several stocks.

Nice to see BGR finally called out flamers the other day. Keep it up please because endless negative comments are killing your site.

Cute phone, sure is worth the extra $100 to upgrade to something cutting edge though.

I don’t blame SE for this phone at all. After their horrible fail to join in on the smartphone craze going on for the last 2-3yrs, and the horribly marketed and designed X10, they’re doing all they can to catch up. Let’s hope they pull a Motorola and come back strong next year.

  • craphos

I’d prolly buy this for my grandma, she wants to learn her way with the touchscreen devices. Really AT

  • Angstwad

This phone would have been great a year ago.

Why we continue to push out new, entry-level phones when we could could continue to purchase proven legacy phones is beyond me. The Droid is a great example of what might lure peeps over to Android, since it has a huge following. What a piece-o-crap.
