Images of Microsoft's Internet Explorer 9 accidentally posted on Russian site?

General

Things we know: Microsoft has an Internet Explorer event scheduled for September 15th, Microsoft has released four developer previews of Internet Explorer 9, IE 9 beta is set to launch in September and in all likelihood will be unveiled at the 9/15 gathering. Things we don’t know: what IE 9′s interface will look like. However, thanks to Microsoft’s Russian press site, we may have a better idea of what we are in-store for. ZDNet found the screen shot above sitting on the Redmond software giant’s Russian web site. The screen capture shows a sleeker, less cluttered, dare we say more mature, version of IE. The shot depicts a unified search and address bar and the Russian site said the whole look and feel of the browser has been simplified. When contacted for comment, the company had this to say: “Microsoft is encouraged by the early enthusiasm around Internet Explorer 9; we have nothing further to share about Internet Explorer 9 at this time.” Guess we’ll just have to wait until the 15th.

What does this have to do with ie9?

  • edward

Wasn’t this posted yesterday? Am I the only creature that has noticed a decrease in articles on bgr recently?

same old Microsoft… do a crappy job of copying someone else’s software. no innovation. just copycating. at least they don’t just steal it like they used to…

    • Mikey

Same old Microsoft – delivering a useable product to the masses and getting rich doing it.

No innovation except using Direct2D to make graphics work better. They were the first to have that working of all the major browser vendors.

What browser do you use anyway? What innovative stuff did they do?

Opera – done plenty that I use.
      Chrome = V8
Safari – nothing useful to me.
Mozilla – nothing useful to me.

am i the only one who doesn’t see the ‘unified search/address bar’? i see a shortened address bar with a search box next it..just like the current version. also, who uses IE anymore (besides my mom)? it is still the worst browser i’ve ever used, despite recent ‘advances’. i highly doubt one version will be enough for them to catch up to the real browsers (Chrome).

    • AndyS

I think what you are seeing as a search box is the tab that Bing is loaded in.

What concerns me is if that’s the only way to show tabs, I’m going to run out of space to actually see the favicons much faster. I prefer my tabs below the address bar so they can go across the whole window.

    • Mikey

Who uses it? Over 60% of all Internet users.

Worst browser? Safari crashes more often and is way less secure. Do you wish to revise your statement?

Have you even used the dev previews? They are pretty fast and quite alright. They are competitive on most fronts and ahead on others.

Try using somethiing before being too critical.

Honestly there is only one problem if this is IE9 and it is the same problem most of Microsoft’s products face, they are still Microsoft products.

As a corporation you must always be able to see what is coming next and beat everyone else to that point. Microsoft has never really done this but their size gave them the advantage of seemingly (to the uneducated anyway) being the first ones to certain markets. Thankfully those dark days of “technology” are behind us and a few actually creative companies are eating away at Microsoft’s share of the pie.

    • Deeko

In other words – you hate Microsoft for no real reason, and therefore you will hate this no matter what its quality.

That’s a very sad stance to take, and frankly using such arbitrary logic towards which products to use tremendously reduces your ability to actually select the right product for a given scenario.

    • Mikey

Yeah because Microsoft stated as one of the worlds largest companies and were never small.

How was they got big again? Oh yeah they delivered the right product on the right platform FIRST! Yeah they couldn’t see the future or what was coming.

  • fp hc hi

    Same old crap. Chrome. Ftw

  • patrick

At least they cleaned it up. That was the main reason I switched to Chrome. Now that I have been using Chrome for about two years there is no way I am switching back. Chrome, Google and Android have way too many things linked together effortlessly for me to jump ship. It’s too little too late. Nice try though

  • PAPINYC

Does anyone still use I.E.? The only reason it’s still on my systems is, there is absolutely no way of removing that component of Windows in any of the Platform’s versions.

I take that back (partially); it’s the only browser recognized by the MS servers on any of their international sites for “Updates”.

    • Mikey

Incorrect there has always been a way to remove it. Even if took a little effort.
If you were adverse to the effort yes it was impossible FOR YOU!

I think you’ll also find that over 60% of web users use IE and the market share is GROWING unlike FireFox in the last few months.

  • microsoft rulez

Ya a bunch of hater IE is coming back big time to step on your chromes and tame your fire fox lol. everything else suck.

    • Mikey

Whilst I enjoy the thought of some Redmond competition I wouldn’t jump out of the Chrome wagon just yet.

I use Opera mainly with IE and Chome (Equally) as my next two browsers. They all have their good and bad points. Having used the dev previews I expect that IE 9 will be quite good and unless Mozilla do something quite decent IE 9 could be the end of rise and along with Chrome the beginning of their demise. I’m not saying it will be, but it could.

  • This browser looks great to me. I like a Clean UI like in Google Chrome.
Chrome is my favorite browser of all my choices, but if IE can make this browser fast like Chrome, I will certainly give it a try before I make a quick decision to call it fail because its Microsoft.

If you think this browser sucks just from a screen shot that may or may not be real, How about YOU make one that’s better?
Oh, you don’t know how? That’s what I thought….but you know how to troll right? that’s all that matters.

Windows 7 seems to be a VERY rock solid OS, best Microsoft has ever done in my opinion. Why couldn’t they make a browser that’s just as good as 7?

    • Mikey

Well said. The platform previews are not far off Chrome for speed. They don’t match it but they best Firefox and Safari.
      Current Browser order in speed

      JavaScript
      Opera > Chrome > IE Platform Preview > Firefox > Safari > IE 8

      Graphics
      IE 9 PP > Opera > Chrome > Firefox > Safari

      From my own testing.

Oh web page rendering completion isn’t a huge difference but
      Opera > IE 9 PP > IE 8 > Chrome > Safari > Firefox.

  • Mohammad

bc microsoft is not google. chrome is bad too. firefox is the way to go.

    • Mikey

      For what exactly?
Slower JavaScript (Than Chrome or Opera)?
      Slower rendering (Than most things)?
      Worse security (Than Chrome)?

Firefox was a good try but was always a failure on too many fronts. The argument of add-ons is also disingenuous as it means reducing security and speed.

      No thanks.

These aren’t images but an image.

    1 = singular

    2 or more than 1 = plural

  • naughty_nicky

what’s that? An image of a forgotten browser that noone cares about “accidentally” being posted on a Russian website whose sole purpose is to generate hype for the parent company? YOU DON’T SAY!!

    • Mikey

      Wrong, I care.

I want a nice Microsoft browser with decent speed and security. Something that so far only Chrome and maybe Opera can offer me. I also want some good features and integration. Which so far only Opera really offered until I got an Android phone.

  • grodo

Simething everyone forgets. Not all sites allow chrome or ff. You will always use ie for compatibility ..remember speed doesn help if your corporate intranet or website for work works onky with ie. You need both w/o ie or chrome or ff the browsers will stagnate.

  • CGH

I LOVE INTERNET EXPLORER AND MOZILLA FIREFOX (:

  • Derrick

It’s always entertaining to read comments, it’s always bashfest 2010. You’re sitting on your ass talking about how Microsoft sucks yet they make billions,, how IE sucks yet all you’ve seen was a screenshot. What are you doing to make a better product? Everyone feels the need to come online and say sucks. Thanks for the information.

    • Drew

What response do you expect from an IRRELEVANT browser that has as many security holes as there are star clusters in M54 in the constellation Sagittarius?? Do we care….??? And the same goes for how much money they make…

  • dc

    It looks like Encarta. Wierd.

we all know that when things don’t work in one browser, you move to ie and then leave it as quickly as possible. Cross rendering engine compatability now-a-days can be closely compared to ripping your own heart out. The last project i did saw me coding separately for IE, FIREFOX/OPERA, CHROME, and SAFARI. Four different ways just to make sure that an xml file could be read across browsers. In fact, as of now, i’ve had to recode the chrome function 20 times, the safari 4 times, the opera/firefox 10 times and know how many times i coded the IE side? Once. Sometimes IE, even though their need to support anything legacy complicates some things, is an easier platform to develop for.
