Amazon selling Samsung Captivate for a penny

General

Last week, AmazonWireless had the Samsung Vibrant on sale for one, shiny penny. Now, this week, it looks like the gang over at A.W. are giving the Samsung Captivate the same treatment. If you’re up for a new 2-year contract, or are porting your number over to the Death Star, you can pick up the AT&T variant of the Galaxy S for one-tenth of a dime. If you order between 12:00 a.m. PDT on August 15 and 11:59 p.m. PDT on August 31, Amazon will even waive that criminal $36 activation charge… making this deal quite the steal. All those interested hit the read link to be sent on over to AmazonWireless.

UPDATE: The $0.01 price tag is only good for new activations. The price of the device jumps to $99 for those who want to sign a new 2-year contract.

      FYI, there is an ETF

      • Android

I know. But I’ve found that there are always ways out of these ETFs. So I’ll deal with them as I sell the phones.

      • BrownforYou

What I’ve found always works with ATT is to complain about the coverage, and you’ll get out of paying the ETF 70% of the time.

Yes, it’s called not answering phone calls or opening letters from the Collection Agency.

OMG! Samsung must be going under! This phone must be tanking! OMG! OMG! OMG!

  • Digitaltouch

What’s up with that! I’m hoping that’s not going to happen with the epic. Just not right.

  • RattyUK

I suppose this is one way to differentiate your product.

  • Nathan

Not available for upgrades or add-a-lines. Just as a brand new activation on an individual plan.

Though upgrade price is 99.99 for individual lines. Family plans are 149.99, upgrade or add-a-line.

Eric Savitz will probably have one of his BS articles out later today highlighting you can buy 9,900 Samsung Captivates for the price of 1 BlackBerry Torch, and therefore RIM is dead.

When will AZ sell iPhone for a penny?

    • Toddfromalbes

      Never.

  • iphone > Droid

1 penny….what this worthless Android trash is actually worth.

    • WalterSobchak

You should check out the slew of comparison videos. The galaxy s phones best it on almost every front, and they aren’t even running Froyo yet.
I said almost, iphone still has 40,000 more of teh fart apps.

    Nokia E72 FTW!!!

If you try to extend an existing contract with unlimited data Amazon is forced by AT&T to replace your unlimited with one of the new capped data plans….FYI

  • Mr. Bill

A feel good phone next to any iphone, overall better hardware, a full an competent Os, purchase price is leagues lower, total cost of ownership blows away the fruit phone.

    For a complete package win.

    Priceless for a penny.

  • EGY

Next time I will wait 45 days before buying a new phone, so I can get the lowest price possible.

I can’t understand why if you sign new contract you get it near free, but if you sign to renew contract you pay near full price or half retail price. It’s the same 2 year contract anyway.

    • Raisedcrazy

They (the carriers that is) get you on the hype and you pay the price! Once “they” all release their version of the phone it’s about reducing inventories. So correct on the contract front it is the same, the demand for the device drives marketing schemes.
