Just how do I install the update or do I have to install the updater first? Also is a update like a upgrade or is the upgrade needed to install the update?

  • Mr. Bill

Is it just me, or is Moto really dragging their arses on models once the’re released into the wild?

  • gee

    Just root._

This royally sucks for Devour owners. That phone was only released in March, making it less than 6 months old! So all these poor people, who have 3/4 of their contract left are stuck with a device that is now never going to be updated? That’s totally not cool.

    • Thablackguy

yes but its also a piece of crap phone. it may not be able to handle it. and i KNOW it wouldn’t handle 3.0. that’s why you should always research anything before you buy it.

      • NumbersGuy

Agreed, up to a point. What research told you — or anyone — that the Devour would not be upgraded like every other MOTO Android phone?

    • Peter F

There really was no reason for anyone to choose the Devour over the original Droid, though. Sure it was a tiny bit cheaper, but does that $100 make much of a difference when you’re paying $30 monthly in data fees? Not really.

    • RG123

That’s what happens when you throw an OS on random deivices. All the devices simply cannot handle it because each device has different specs. That’s why iOS wins. Control is good in this aspect. You are not left with an outdated device.

      • Howard T. Nausbaum

Unfortunately the lastest iOS phone appears to be unable to get voice or data reception. Other than that it is fair (since it in locked into a limited ecosystem)

      • RG123

I have great voice and data reception and have had 2 different model iphones so I’m not too sure where you are getting your data from. And I have had verzion in the past so I do have something to compare it too. It’s the same sh*t.

And the ecosystem is what makes apple great. It creates reliabily, back-up, support, and and an enviornment where everything works seamless and smooth. And then of course you can jailbreak where you can still have the ecosystem plus a bit more freedom. Good luck when you drop your droid in the bowl…have fun restoring your contacts, pics, calandars, apps, music etc. This is why the ecosystem is great and google is trying to copy.

I’ll bet Megan Fox is pissed that her Devour won’t get upgraded.

FOlks, At least Motorola’s doing their customers right by upgrading a whole bunch of their phones to 2.2 in a timely fashion. I bought the HTC Incredible back in April and now I’m figuring out that HTC is a buyer beware kind of company. Buy their products and never hear from them anymore.

I KNOW what my next and my family’s cellphone brand will be… and it’s definitely NOT HTC.

    • navi

FYI. from what i have read it is VZW not HTC holding up the DINC froyo update. the update is in VZW’s hands. they are the ones who take forever to release updates. coming from a Storm i know the feeling of waiting.

  • X Glansburg

Lol at the Cliq. Glad i dumped that dead machine for the X.

  • Garry

People really I have the iPhone 3GS yes it is a great phone even with lack of flash support. But I’m going to verizon do to drop calls on the iPhone. My next phone will be the droid x bottom line both phones are great. Phones , laptops , tv’s all get outdated after 6 months. Be happy with what you have

  • Garry

Ohh and I will miss the speaker phone while searching the Internet with AT&T verizon needs to step up there game on muti tasking.

    • Moondrius

Its alright when it works. When I had my iphone everytime I went to use it I would have no data connection. I would rather have a phone that works.

    • navi

not being able to do data+voice is not “multi-tasking” the reason VZW can not do both is due to it’s CDMA network. this should be rectified when they roll out their new network.

  • JFA

I’m SO glad I dumped the motorola cliq in favor of my nexus one. I would be so pissed being on 1.5 when there’s 2.2 out, especially since Motorola keeps delaying the updates. I will NEVER buy an android phone with a custom UI on it, especially from Motorola.

  • Garry

Navi I hope verizon can do data+talk :) I’m looking forward to it now that I signed a 2 year agreement. Lol

After getting my V2.2 OTA last Thursday, my DROID has completely SUCKED, going from a generally very responsive and reliable phone and data device to a consistently slow Piece Of Shit! My Wife has a DROID and hers is acting the same way. She’s also a lot lighter of a user of it so I don’t see it’s a ‘well, you’re trying to expect too much of it’ kind of thing. I’d be happy if it just worked as well as the V2.1.whatever the minor rev.

Verizon Support’s answer when I reported it was ‘we’re really sorry you’re having occasional slowness (No, you’re not listening VZW, all the F’ing time!) but there’s supposed to be another update in a couple months that ‘may’ fix your issue (gee thanks for the “Service” in Customer Service). Oh yeah, we thought about if you were to go back to the previous release but we won’t support you there. I’ve gone from a happy customer to one that’s really pissed off.
