Motorola doesn't like your leaked DROID X Android 2.2 update

mobile

If you were just about to rock and roll with some leaked FroYo on your Motorola DROID X, you’re going to have to search a little harder. We’ve updated our units, but Motorola just shut down the fun by sending MyDroidWorld, the site that leaked and hosted the update, a nice warm cease and desist email. No reasoning behind the move — whether our phones are going to instantly crumble into pieces or just because there are unfinished components in the leaked ROM — but we’re not too far away from a official release at this point anyway. Did you guys get your update on before the takedown?

    Walter, Walter, Walter……

    You misspelled something in a previous post;
    it is actually spelled
    i-Diot !

    Riddle:

    When you were born,
    who did the doctor slap?

    ! enoyreve ,wonk t’nob-i : rewsnA

    You should get together with Ernie;
Bert’s not giving it to him the way he wants it.

BTW, Stop scaring us with your hideous
picture; you’re too old to try to look hip
    or cool.

And, go Swagger, go Swagger, go EVOOO.

Walter still is on a honeymoon with his Windows Mobile (pocket pc)..

      You little punk.
      I’m shomer shabbos
Thats John Goodman from The Big Lebowski. Its not a Twilight movie so you probably haven’t seen it.

I don’t use winmo, I use a bugless beast Droid.
I have been using android since the day it came out on a G1.
Isn’t the sense overlay meant for women?

Stick to your sweet iductape comment you asshat.

It sure is a slow day eh Jonathan?

    I totally agree Andrew.

    What should we do?

We’ll use the old go to, and run an Engadget story 6 hours after they do, Im sure no one will notice.

    Good call Jonathan.

  • mike

Sprint sucks and so does their evo and coverage

  • SKINNI

Glad i got it already. My Visual Voicemail actually opened up for the first time after updating. Second X didnt work like the first i got but now working perfect & def faster. Not laggy like before. I actually feel like its a different phone now & im motivated to look for good apps like on my OG Droid.

  • Swagger

    Mike and Walter,

    Your EVO envy is disgusting.

    • WalterSobchak

I have owned an HTC android device. I am just not happy with how they abandon them, or the cheap plastic makeup. My almost 1-year old, OC’ed Droid runs as fast as your EVO, well actually faster because I don’t have nonSense sucking the life out of it.
The only reason you got froyo is because sprint cares about selling them still(but not for long). Why don’t you wait and see how long it takes you to get gingerbread, if you ever do. I have been running 2.2 for 2 months, welcome to the party. But yeah, envy. Don’t you roam on Verizons 1X? I guess it doesn’t matter if you don’t leave your mom’s house, and dont’ have a car.
Enjoy 2.2 because it is the last update you will ever see with that cut-rate company(hero, moment). Hope you didn’t sign a 2-year contract.
See you 2 asshats are making me hate on other android users when my energy should be conserved for pointing out the faults of i*hone users.

Motorola’s facebook fanpage for the X seems to like it

  • Swagger

Hahaha. Wooooow, you got me there. Buuuuurn.

    Goodnight,Loser.

Now, why all the droid on droid hate on here? The OG Droid is a good phone, so is the HTC Evo, and the HTC Incredible, then again, so is the Droid X, and the Droid 2. The point is, all these phones are competing w/ one another, and the iPhone, and actually giving it a run for its money. In most cases, hands down beating it. Sure they all have their drawbacks, HTC is known for their plasticky builds, and their phones bear that out, in addition to their poor battery life. So far the Droid, Droid X, and Droid 2 I think beat them on battery life, but 1 is still using older tech. Droid X, and Droid 2 do have Moto Blur, but its minimal, and after you take the time to move it out of the way, the phone rocks. The Incredible also has tons of features, and sense does make it a very appealing phone. It’s actually a tough decision between these phones, that said, they are all good, and the competition amongst Android phone makers is welcomed, because in the end, we consumers are the ones that gain.

  • 5tod

To get the latest updates from android you must sacrifice some of your hardware features. LMFAO– this is why Apple is number one and will be for quite some time.

    • benr

You mean like how the 3G will do video recording just fine if jailbroken but if you leave it to Apple then you have to buy a 3GS to do this? Or how they bring out functions that other phones have had for years but act like they are innovations. Yeah, right. :)

And don’t go all Apple fanboi on me .. I have several Macs and have actually owned 2 iPhones previous to jumping onto the Android train.

  • Rob

Just updated works fine but flash doesn’t work… I thought we would be able to watch flash now or am I missing something? Just tested it on CNN.com and it says I’m missing the plugin. Any ideas?

    • benr

Flash works on the New York Times website .. it should work on CNN.

    • Marvin

Flash is buggy. Try reloading. Any wonder why HTML5 will eventually rule?

    • Derrick

Flash worked for me, be sure you’re looking at the FULL website, not the mobile version. It was slow to load a video on CNN, but once it loaded, smooth as butter!

  • Rob

Oh people be careful… My boy just updated his original droid on Friday and it bricked. He’s unable power the phone on. He had to pay full price for a replacement. Not sure what ge did wrong but mine is running ok with exception to still no flash. Just a heads up…

    • Hector

Well why would he have to pay full price if he is still under manufactures warranty? Tell your boy to get an iphone since he does not know how to unbrick his droid.

  • NyKid

Not so open sourced I guess. Moto droids suck because of the moto crapwhere, htc sense make phone laggy as sh#t. They need to make one standard droid os and it would run better. It seems that all they are doing are taking phones, giving them access to apps and google voice and naming it a droid. The problem with this is that every phone has different specs so they will never run the same nor seamless. That’s why they cannot release a software for every droid out there… Phone specs are different and cannot handle the same. This is where apple has us beat. The software goes with the capability of one phone with one set of specs. When you throw an update on a variety of phones that can handle different things, things will not work properly and get screwy. Same will eventually happen with the apps once better devices start coming out… The older ones will not be able to handle things and developers will have no reason to update for older devices. When apple upgrades developers must upgrade or their apps will no longer be supported. I’m a droid owner and by any means no apple fanboy, but apple has this figured out. Droid is the next windows unfortunately.

  • Capt.Obvious

LOL… you people crack me up! Sense laggy? Really, have you honestly used a phone with Sense, and I’m not talking about the Eris!? The Droid Inc. is one of the fastest phones on the market, it uses Sense, it has virtually 0 lag running widgets on all seven screens! My Droid has more lag (which is still minimal) and has less widgets, apps running in the background. My Inc. can run LauncherPro and pretty whatever it wants with 0 lag. As many have mentioned the major drawback with HTC phones is quality. Apple is number one in this department, but I’d take Android over iOS any day. Numbers don’t lie, Android is growing faster then iOS.

    • RG123

The numbers you speak of cannot be compared with Apple. You are comparing ONE device to multiple crap devices with an Android OS thrown on there. Cannot be compared. If you want to compared OS’ then Apples got Android beat for 10 years. If you want to compare 1 phone to 1 phone then compare iphone to nexus one… There’s your answer. FAIL

      • benr

No. You would compare the iPhone to the Droid X or maybe the EVO. If you do this there is no fail .. only Zool. :D

      • RG123

actually iphone 4 has sold more than the evo and X put together…

      • Capt.Obvious

Think you got me confused. Google is Android, not each individual device. The main difference is Google has allowed others to cash in on their success, unlike Apple who chose to do everything. But when you’re talking about OS, which I clearly was, you can compare them all. Android is growing at an astonishing rate!

  • Mother

THIS is why Motorola wants to stop the leak.

Because there are idiots out there like you that can’t comprehend that this is unfinished beta software.

  • Mother

That was directed to 5tod… Not sure why it showed up at the bottom.

  • iclickjohn

I’ve done the update and it works perfect. Will wait for the comps with ota and may restore 2.1 and reflash official. Ive gone through every nook and cranny. Everything seems good.

  • Jon H

I just got the Droid X. Nice phone but the pre loaded apps that drain the battery is crap. Battery life sucks, Need to charge it by 10am. It would be much better if apple and verizon did business together. Apple is far superior.

    • zargon

Turn the screen brightness down. When I turned it down, I went from quick battery drain to being able to make it all day.

Price you pay for a large screen.

    • Jim Burgan

If you run every function on the phone your battery may drain that fast but my x runs from 4:00 am until 5:30 pm and still has battery left.

  • chris m.

Damn, there is alot of hate here. Onto the lag issue. I usually don’t comment places like this, but I remember how god awful slow my 3G was before I got rid of it. For instance, when swiping left to the search screen. It stuttered pretty badly. Going into the settings screen I could take a nap before it was done loading. You like to talk about how great Apple is but they are more locked down than anyone else.

You shouldn’t have to jailbreak a phone to get basic features because a company decides you need to spend x amount of dollars on a new device. Video recording on the 3G is a big one. How long did we have to wait for almighty Apple to say “hey, here you go guys…you can set desktop backgrounds”. I was jailbroken and doing things the 3G wasn’t supposed to be able to do.

I would rather have a “laggy phone”, than support a company that lies to its customers, tries to pretend its way ahead of the curve with these innovations as it calls them, and tells its customer base that the problems are their fault because they are holding their devices wrong. My last thing I want to point out is that when the Droid X had screen issues, Motorola and Verizon almost immediately addressed and fixed the problem, when is the last time Apple ever addressed an issue promptly and CORRECTLY. I don’t mean their half ass bumper fix. I actually like the look of the iPhone 4, the bumpers make it ugly.
