Nokia acquires U.S. analytics company Motally

General

Today, Nokia announced that they have signed an agreement to acquire U.S. mobile analytics company Motally. Motally “offers in-application tracking and reporting, and is designed to enable developers and publishers to optimize the development of their mobile applications through increased understanding of how users engage.” Motally’s services are to be adapted for Qt, Symbian, MeeGo, and Java. Nokia has also said they will continue to serve Motally’s current customer base (e.g. Yelp, Fandango, Intuit). Nokia’s Vice President of Media, Marco Argenti, had this to say: “The acquisition underpins Nokia’s drive to deliver in-application and mobile web browsing analytics to Ovi’s growing, global eco-system of developers and publishers, enabling partners to better connect with their customers and optimize and monetize their offering.” The deal is set to close in Q3 of 2010; the firm has eight employees. Us Americans have always been and will be jealous of European and Asian phones.. Just not any nokias lately lol

It shocks me how judgemental most American’s are of Nokia smartphones, yet most of them have never held or seen one in person. Everytime I whip one of my many out, they are floored.

“That’s a NOKIA??” Yeah, bidges. Yeah.
        From the N95 to today.

        ““That’s a NOKIA??” Yeah. {crowd laughs at the loser who can’t get a real smart phone}

What the hell is up with these clowns?

They buy Novarra, a company that was swirling the drain.

They buy Motorola Wireless Networks, which was fat & uncompetitive.

Now they buy this mobile analytics company?!?!?

Good thing I sold all my Nokia stock already.

There is a plan, which most non-business minded people don’t understand.

      1) Novarra: Have you seen recent Ovi Browser for S40 phones(i.e cheap feature phones) at Nokia beta labs.
That is definitely a fruit of Novarra acquisition and that is especially for emerging markets where unlimited data plans are a rarity. Ovi browser is like Opera mini and will directly compete with Opera mini in a year or so.
      2) Motorola: They already got one of the biggest contracts for setting up LTE network in US, from a US company.
      3) Mobile analytics is for showing the developers that they do care for them, this is an investment made by Nokia for developers.

By “stock” did you mean magic beans? If you don’t understand the nature of mergers and acquisitions, maybe you shouldn’t be buying stock.

  • blkrabb1t

So does this mean that they will bring their good wares here in the US? I wast to be able to have a MeeGo device on Verizon. I miss having a Nokia.

    • blkrabb1t

      Err *want, not *wast.

    • Hary

It will probably take little more time for verizon, as Nokia has primarily been in GSM over the years, i think they will try to get into it, but first priority will be GSM.
So i think they will come sooner to AT&T, T-mobile here.

    • Jim

Well I have a firedn who works at nokia and they said that they starting to have closed relations with verizon and they will release some devices once verizon is moving to LTE(next generation from 3G)

    • http://www.maemo-freak.com christexaport

They have always had unlocked devices available. But its the carriers that keep Nokia largely from view. If you want a Nokia smartphone, check THOSE suckers. THEY’RE the problem, not Nokia. Everyone else loves them across the world.

    VIVA SUOMILAINEN!!!!!

  • Tokyo Tony

Nokia is still in business? What do they make? Copiers?

  • Pachi

Fuck Nokia and their shitty outdated OS..Meego my ass..By the time they start releasing more phones running Meego no one will give a crap. Look what happend to Maemo. No support…Either release an Android phone is start giving out pink slips…

    • m3

Maemo received it’s latest firmware update a few weeks ago, many 2 year Symbian devices still receive updates too. If you compare with Korean manufacturers there is plenty updates available for Nokia phones, same goes for most other manufacturers.
