BlackBerry OS 6 for BlackBerry Bold 9700 video walkthrough

Featured

We have been working this one for a while, and we finally got BlackBerry OS 6 for our BlackBerry 9700. Here’s a short walkthrough video we put together. Comparing BlackBerry 6 on the 9700 to BlackBerry 6 on the 9800, we feel that the 9700 runs it better. It is less complicated to use, more functional (at least for us), and above all, faster. It even boots up in around a minute. For some reason, even though this build is not a final build, the phone feels snappy and doesn’t seem to get bogged down like our BlackBerry Torch did. All the great features of BlackBerry 6 are obviously here — WebKit browser, Universal Search, and more — and it’s nice to be able to pamper your beloved aging 9700 sometimes, isn’t it?

I hope 86 MB includes background images( <5 mb), free video( <7 mb), free dumb mp3(10 MB).
So I think there is plenty of memory for me cause I don’t use lot of things like video and mp3 and background images.

Some one release the stable build for 9700ers.

When will we get OS6 on the 9700?

  • SteelHelmet

I’ll just wait for the official release of the OS for my Bold 9700, which according to the BB OS 6 press release, it should be in September or October, since they say “in the months ahead” of the BB Torch release.

As it was told before by previous submitters, installing the leak of this unnofficial OS wouldn’t be a healthy thing to do to our devices, since it is being tested to build a bugless OS 6 for the model.

So, c’mon guys, you’ve been rockin’ with the best phone out there for the last eleven months and running OS 5, let’s just wait a few weeks more and the official release day we will be just as excited as our out of the box moment!

BB Bold 9700, best phone ever. Iphones and Androids can kiss it’s BBhind!

is this really a 9700…..im hearing that there are no beta version for the 9700 from RIM adn carrier testing hasnt even started. so how do u have a build for the 9700 if RIM hasnt done anything with it yet?

  • Doss

    Play some media you freak!!!

  • HeavyComponent

People still buy Blackberry’s? All BB are the SAME!!!!!!!!!! OS 6.0 is just polished…BIG DEAL!!!! BB is the new SK. All the young kids have it! They LOVE BBM now ..BBM is the new AIM that was on SK’s. TRASH!! HTC with Android is where it is!!!!!!!! MAKE THE SWITCH!

    • Nick

Fail. People who buy blackberries want secure and stable devices with clean operating systems and easy operation. So what if all the “young kids” have a BB now? They don’t. BB will always be for the professional, and Android and iOS will always be for the average consumer.

      • Diggy

Good Reply Nick. You hit the nail on the head. People for some reason “make the switch” then dog BB users like they’re retarded for staying with the device of THEIR CHOICE as if we haven’t used or know what Android and Iphones are all about.

Their userability, functionality, personalizable, really is second to none if you truely know Blackberry.

A friend of mine was trying to make his case to me about his Droid. All he kept showing me were his games and how “Cool” they were with his touch sceen. Well sir, I don’t play games on my phone and I prefer a non-touch screen device.

My 9700 is powerful and answers the call, above and beyond, quick and easy.

to be honest I’m a major bb fanboy… but in all actually all the phones are the same when it comes down to security, they are all just as hackable as the next… bb is considered more secure because of their BES which from what I’ve witnessed most bb users have never used, and many never even heard of.So even though i say this I’m one of the biggest fans of blackberry ever. just wanted to set the message straight…

ps that is why its considered a professional phone.

      • JAMES

Your the biggest fanboy, but u dont have a clue how the sucurity for blackkberry works as you would iknow every blackberry is more secure than the average phone.

everything runs through bes servers you idiot

      • Steve

        Wrong.

BES = BlackBerry Enterprise Server … which, as he said, most people do not utilize. This is setup in enterprise networks to work with Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Domino, Novell GroupWise, etc.

You’re thinking of BIS. BlackBerry Internet Service – which is basically only as secure as web-based email.

  • Diggy

OH and BTW.. how is Blackberry anything like SideKick?! This guy doesn’t know his phones, or doesn’t know how to use them. Dangers OS is NOTHING like Blackberry OS.

    • Nick

      They both have keyboards?

I’ve owned an iPhone 2G and a myTouch 3G (briefly) and while they were both “cool” devices, I ultimately switched back to BlackBerry (had an 8120 a few years prior).

Obviously iOS and the RIM OS don’t compare visually, but I find that my BlackBerry 9700 operates with a similar level of seamlessness. It just works. On top of that I find myself going without charging it for several days, even with active use. Something neither my iPhone or myTouch could do.

I don’t consider myself a fanboy in any way, I just can’t find a suitable alternative to the look and feel of a BlackBerry (keyboard and screen always visible, 3 days or more battery life with normal/heavy usage, secure email-centric operating system, trackpad navigation with or w/o touchscreen, and a durable body).

When’s OS 6 on the 9700 coming out for ATT?

    • Nick

OS 6 release by RIM is expected to be late September/October. Then from there your carrier has to clear it as stable and add branding, etc.

So for ATT, I’d say no earlier than the end of this month, but knowing how sales work it could be even longer. They wouldn’t want to cannibalize their sales of the 9800 by releasing an update that brings a lot of the same features to an older phone.

For T-Mobile, at least October, possibly later. They tend to wait until a super-stable release, but in this case they may release something with some minor issues to compete with ATT.

  • Rozilla

I just wish they’d hurry up! My husband wouldnt let me upgrade to the Torch yet- because I just got the 9700 6 months ago– so I at least want to be running on the newest system! Geez! Plz hurry bb! I love you. LOL.

I laugh at iphone and driod users saying their phones are better. First and foremost, the only thing that is better is the media and games a.k.a. entertainment. Entertainment is the main reason why life has changed and people. Blackberries are very informational, useful to store anything, email friendly, and I also learn everyday using my Bold 9700. From trying an App, I learn a lot. So here’s my conclusion, my phone suits me and many smart people.

  • Neil

I’ve owned a Blackberry in the past (Bold 8800) which at the time (2007) was great, especially as a work device with enterprise integration. I even recommended a 9700 to my dad last month when he was looking to migrate away from his decade old Nokia 3310 to something with email support.
As a communications device (i.e phone, text, email) they are great – compact with great keys and brilliant battery life, but as an all-rounder mobile computing and entertainment device i’m afraid they just can’t hold a candle to even a low end Android phone. The interface doesn’t have nearly enough polish, apps and widgets are limited in comparison, and the menu systems are often unintuitive and cumbersome. My dads 9700 was almost identical in form and function to my 2007 8800 … and therein lies the problem, RIM have stagnated whilst Apple and Android evolved and improved to meet the desires of a new generation of consumers.

Screw the leak it’s probably a trojan anyway. I’m waiting for the official release.

Blackberrys just look a lot sexier. They’re reliable and get the job done.

  • brushes

The  9700 is the machine we’ve been waiting for. I just got the blackberry bold 9700 OS6 with so many flexible features. The BBM is something else. And I appreciate the sound equalizer. It’s so cool.

  • Nick

    Lol

  • Phonefreak

I always had a thing for phone. The more tricks and eye-candy the more i like them. I curently own an Iphone, an android phone, a windows mobile phone (Is’t like women and there shoes….)
A couple weeks ago i got a BB Bold 9700 for my job. I must say, i have not used any of my other phones since i have the BB. Iphone, android, WinMo, thet have all the eyecandy, rings and bells, but BB simply works. You never have to reset is, you don’t lose any data when an update gets installed, you dont see your’e battery run empty when you do something basic like surfing… It might not have the eyecandy, but it’s stable, it lasts, and it’s fast!

  • Jesse

    wow simplistically to the point
