Android 2.2 for Motorola DROID X leaked

General

If you’re a Motorola DROID X owner with a hankering for tinkering, today is a good day for you. The DROID World forums have a leaked build of Android 2.2 ready to go for your beloved DX. The leaked OTA upgrade is in zip format, meaning all you have to do is drop it on your micro-SD card slot (you do have to completely erase your device) and run the update. We’ve put it on one of our DROID Xs and we have to say… so far we’re impressed! The phone seems a bit snappier, there are some nice visual tweaks, and we’re enjoying Google Voice Actions on the 4.3-inch screen. Given the polish on this leak, we’re thinking Froyo for the DROID X has to be right around the corner. Hit the jump to see a quick little video we put together of the new goodies.

UPDATE: Adobe Flash 10.1 is pre-installed, it just isn’t in the downloads section of the Market. It is listed in Preferences > Applications > Manage. Thanks, ThaBlackGuy.

This build hauls ass. Other than that most of the changes are minor. Im still having issues with corporate email sync notifications.

    • NoFan

unfortunately 2.2 kills corporate email sync… I have not found a quick fix.

I am getting download errors. Anyone know why?

  • PAPINYC

    Figures…..you would.

Is there any improvement to the speaker with this build?

Just got my Droid X set up with 2.2 and after running 8-10 Quadrant Benchmark tests, the scores seemed to range from 1420-1450. Amazingly Impressive, Droid X is defending its thrown with ease.

      Throne* Heh.

Enjoy it while it lasts. The Fascinate *is* faster!

      • Pshaw Right

And I should add that its faster measured on 2.1–on 2.2 the gap will widen.

do you happen to have the droid x 2.2 leak, ive been looking for the file

One of my biggest gripes with the previous software was the lag in scrolling through the app drawer. Now it just flies.

Also, Flash is noticeably faster on the Droid X vs. the original Droid (I’m guessing that this pre-installed version is optimized for OMAP/PowerVR while the original APK is optimized for Snapdragon/Adreno–which is why Droid users can’t get Flash from the Market yet.)

Interesting part about Flash. On the other videos I’ve seen, the Flash was installed with the update. What happens when you go into the settings and look at applications?

    • washingtonco

It shows up on the list of applications in the settings but not in the app drawer. Update would be installed with ease if I didnt uninstall the bloatware. Came back to bite me.

I’m a newbie to all of this smartphone stuff. Wondering if anyone could tell me how to download the 2.2 android version to my droid X. Thanks for the help.

  • Robert

Got mine. Did not do the root version, and did not wipe unit beforehand. Flawless install and operation. Gotta love it…lol!

  • destardi

Flash is…awesome on the Droid X.

Things are smoother, and I like the new photo gallery look.

  • ITLawMan

You do NOT have to wipe your phone. You DO have to restore any bloatware you removed though.

  • murph

Is it possible to downgrade back to 2.1? I’ve got a loaner Droid X from VZW and doubt they’d appreciate it sending it back with an unreleased upgrade :)

Just got off the phone with verizon wireless and they confirmed the 2.2 update for the droid x has started to push out yesterday and users will receive the update over the next few days based on the phones serial number.

The 2.2 on your droid x comes with the flash player reeereeee. Go to app manager in the setting and it should be in there i had the 2.2 on the x and it was pre loaded but i flashed my device back to the 2.1 to wait for the ota in sep
