Nokia N9 pictured, C7 videoed

General

Yesterday, we saw some high-roller images of the Nokia C7 surface on a Chinese blog, and now today we get to see the C7 on video with some images of the N9 slider phone as an added bonus. The C7 video is in Mandarin, but you get a pretty good glimpse at the handsets size and physical layout. We’ve got the three minute clip ready for your scrutiny after the break. Next on deck is the Nokia N9. The device is seen running an unidentifiable operating system (it could be MeeGo though!), and has that Macbook unibody look and feel thanks to its black-over-silver keyboard. For whatever reason, the device’s software was not detailed, but Chinese website tieba.baidu.com did do the honors of dismantling the handset. Hit the jump, have a look, and let us know what you think.

Does the N9 remind anyone else of an Apple 2?

Do you live in the stonage or what? You can compare it to every white keyboard / screen if you put it like that

Nokia. If only they would have more of it in the US carrier subsidized.

  • AT

I would kill for an Android phone with this form factor.

  • Tank Johnstone

Yep, it looks ghey…it’s a Mac clone alright.

When is Nokia going to stop designing ugly cellphones. The N95 was the last visually appealing device they launched.

  • grrr

I’d so buy the N9 if it was running android. It stops looking like a MacBook knock-off and more like a nokia the more you stare at it.

    • JonHolstein

you are right about the looks. Sure at a first glance, there is something macbook about the way it looks in some pics, but when you look closer, it looks nothing like macbook, and probably in real life there wont even be a macbook recognition at a first glance.

But no, MeeGo is more powerfull than Android, so i rather go for that, than, android. Sure there might be some apps missing, the question is, will you miss them?
Productivity wise, sport application wise, and so on, you will probably have it all covered (but perhaps not with as many version of each application, but you dont need that).
Game wise, there might be some missing, but on the other hand, at this moment android is way behind apple in that area, so android would not really be the solution. If you really want a large selection of games, whether you get an MeeGo or Android deevice, coupling it with a iPod Touch is a good solution.

Its a good thing the guy was so detailed in the video or else I’d have no idea what was going on……………

Reminds me of my old E90. Now THAT was a BRICK!! Awesome build quality, but dang, it felf like a solid bar of metal.

    • tariq

I LOVED that solid bar of metal feel.

    *looks at N9*

please have good hardware please have good hardware please have good hardware please have good hardware

if the innards of this thing are comparable to the high end android phones coming out today, I might buy it instead of the EPIC 4G I’ve been eyeing.

    Don’t fail me now, Nokia!!

    • tariq

forget the hardware. it has Meego. And 1 Ghz is more than enough.

  • Bud

    Devour anyone?

  • JM

Damn! The N9 is really an ugly device…just like the N8. This is from the same company that can make the E72, C7, and quite a few other really great looking devices. They sure do have range! Bloated and weird on the N97 down to the simpe slim C3. People don’t buy ugly, Nokia, even if you put a 2Ghz processor i. there…

    • tariq

ugly? are u serious? I am sure if it had apple logo, or android OS, it would look beautiful to you

  • james

looks like my macbook pro and my iphone squeezed out a young’n

  • AndroidFanBoys

Bgr is infested with Android Fan Boys That don’t know about any other phones because they got there nose so far up google’s butt…..if you read this same post on engadget or gizmodo or any other blog for that matter everyone loves this phone…bgr is infested with clueless fanboys

Apple should be slapped for not keeping the momentum and making an iPhone like this themselves. Nokia slept for three years working on Ovi and Qt, and they squandered all of their currency at the wrong time.

Android won’t compete with this OS, and not this device if it has CZ optics like we expect. But Apple’s fans asked for this running iOS for years, and now Nokia’s gonna give it to them. If its under $800, I’ll take two!

    MeeGo, suckas!

  • Eric in Milpitas

I gave up on waiting for an E90 follow up.

Switched from Eseries to the Galaxy S last month and switching a family member from the E71 to Android next week.

    S60 3rd FP2 was awesome but the touchscreen S60 5th was a nightmare.

I really hope Nokia can get back to awesome “Made in Finland” hardware and a matching OS.

  • Mark

Both look pretty good. Both will sell millions.

    Nokia dead? LOL!

    Stupid fanboys.

    • Sir Trashcan

You don’t happen to be the stupid Nokia fanboy Mark Anderson from Engadget, do you?

      • Mark

No, I’m the ‘knows how to read market share and analyst’s stats’ Mark Anderson.

Which one of the little people on Engadget that I made cry and run away are you, little man? :)

      • tariq

        lol! @ mark
        good reply

  • Sir Trashcan

They seem to piss on USA and Apple with this design. ‘we copy with pride’ Yeah, you lame copycats, don’t you have a design department of your own??? American design will always beat your lame copies! Besides it won’t help you if you copy the hardware design – you just can not develop quality software like Apple never ever.

    • Hary

      S. Job interview. Interesting one;)

  • Po Panda

    I’d tap that…

    (keyboard and screen)…

  • Art

    If you cant Beat’em, Clone’em!!!

  • JonHolstein

Please, for all of you calling this a clone, look closer.
At a first glance, it kind of reminds you of a macbook, looking closer at the pics, and that sensation is lost, then it looks like a product of its own. And that suggest, that in real life it might not at all remind you of a macbook, not even at a glance.
sure aliminium unibody isnt that common, but, we’ve seen a lot of plastic devices pulling of that look before, so its not the design that is uncommon witht the macbook, and the keyboard style was seen long before. so really if it doesnt look very much like a macbook in details, you will probably not think of a macbook when you see a unibody style device, at a very different size, with much lower keys, different layout, different formfactor.

It looks kinda Old School Battelstar Galactica. Clipped corners, golden mean aspect ratio. Just needs a gold dip and a centononometer…

    By your command…
