DROID Pro is DROID 2 world edition, LG enV Touch 2 to run Android?

Rumor

Engadget is reporting that a “source close to the situation” has informed them that the Motorola DROID Pro will simply be a clone of the current DROID 2 handset with an HSPA and GSM radio for global roaming. The blog notes that Verizon has been known to muck with device-branding and identity right up until device launch, and the DROID Pro name may not stick.

Shifting gears, the site is also reporting that the LG enV Touch 2 will be an Android 2.1 device that has dual touch screens; one on the inside and one on the outside. The Touch 2 will have a similar form factor to the current enV and will hinge open to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard. The device was also described as “pretty big and heavy” by the tipster.

Would anyone be disappointed if the DROID Pro turned out to be a DROID 2 with a SIM card?

Methinks this rumor is suspect, but only time will tell.

But if true, it would be tacky, even tho the 1.3 ghz would be a nice upgrade. However, personally, I have no use for a physical keyboard. I have a Droid1 and never open the stoopid keyboard anymore.

What happened to the rumor of a 4″ screen on the Droid Pro???

Maybe my expectations are lower than all of yours, but I’d be perfectly content with a Droid 2 World Edition. I’ve been anxiously awaiting an Android world phone and I have a preference for physical keyboards, so this is pretty good news for me. I understand that those who have the original Droid, the Incredible, or the X might not be impressed, but this is a big leap for me as a Blackberry Storm 1 owner.

I can’t see Verizon allowing unlimited global data on an Android phone for $64.99 like they do on heavily data compressed BlackBerry’s.

You know the international data plans for Android will be tiered and terribly expensive.

I can also see Verizon disabling the feature that allows you to block data roaming access so that the user will be forced to pay a per MB international data roaming fee or choose from the ridiculously expensive tiered plans.

Um, hence the SIM card. Outside of North America, you can usually buy enough for a 10-30 day trip for 10 dollars in Asia) to 20 (in Europe)…

    Thats for reposting this story.

Chances are anyone who checks this site went to Engadget first though.

I purchased my Droid 2 @ 8am the day of release, I WANT global Droid 2! I LOVE this phone but I’ve been on no vacation in 14 years & when this global arrives, we the original buyers “must” be allowed to acquire the global since no choice was known of until after our buying the Droid 2. This seems common sense to me & I’m quite sure many others.

Of course you’ll be allowed to acquire it. If you’re outside of the 30-day return policy though, be prepared to pay full retail price.

Engadget is wrong on the Droid Pro. Its not a Droid 2 with a hybrid radio. Its much more.

The dual-screen recessed hinge design that LG has pioneered is far more versatile and ergonomic than slider designs which partially block keyboards. The design of the Voyager/EnV series of phones permits built-in screen protection for the inner screen, excellent multiple angle viewing for video and television, great audio with true stereo separation and an extremely good keyboard for text editing. It’s pretty close to the perfect device for a balance between content creation and content consumption.

I think moving Android to the design is a fantastic idea. All I would ask for are slightly larger screens. Even then, I will jump on this phone when it’s out.
