Microsoft's Arc Touch Mouse breaks cover on German website

Accessories

It looks like the Microsoft Arc Touch Mouse that was rumored months back is close to becoming official. German website notebooksbilliger has the fabled mouse, complete with pictures, available for pre-order for 70€ ($90) with an available ship-date of October 13th. The sleek mouse is — as the name suggests — arched for ergonomic navigation but can also be bent flat for storage or travel. The device runs on the 2.4 GHz frequency and comes with a “ultra-compact Nano-transceiver” that can be stored in the device’s battery compartment when not in use. To be honest, the device looks pretty sexy. Thoughts? We’ve got a few more images of the device after the break.

Can’t wait to order one of these sexy beasts.

Great, another adapter. I hope it comes with a driver suite that runs in the background and constantly checks for updates too!

At $90, it’s ridiculous that this isn’t standard Bluetooth.

bluetooth burns through batteries, i piss longer when i wake up than the life of a battery powered bluetooth device.

Seriously how many things do you use that requires usb consistently?
      - printer
      - keyboard mouse combo
      - webcam

      sometimes used usb devices
      - camera (if you dont just plug in the chip to a card reader)
      - thumb drive
      - usb backup hard drive
      - others…

Additionally Avoid installing the suite just take the driver… Proper (and all MS) mouse drivers adds option and program-ability to the mouse settings in the control panel. So you do not need the suite for “additional functionality”

I’ve been using a Logitech MX 5000 BT keyboard and mouse for two years now.

The mouse is rechargeable and the keyboard goes through 4 AA’s every 3 months.

Hardly burning through them, and I only have 1 adapter to connect my kb, mouse, phone, ps3 controllers, headset, and anything else I choose to get.

      • After Forever

        Agreed!
Best darn keyboard/mouse combo I have ever owned.

I don’t really care how sexy a mouse looks — hard to see it when my big paw is on it. It does look more comfortable than my Magic Mouse for my Apple though.

I wish someone would release a wireless mouse that has a rechargable battery that can be recharged via USB. An occasional plug-in would be better than constantly swapping out Duracells.

  • bill

I have the original version of this and it’s deceptively comfortable.

  • Gazoobee

Sexy? It looks like a dustbuster from the future to me (and no that isn’t a compliment).

I think it looks poorly designed as well but we won’t know until folks start using it. I would question whether the flexible part will really support the weight of your hand, esp. after it’s flexed back and forth a few times.

Also, never had an “ergonomic problem with my magic mouse after all of ten minutes getting used to it.

    • Bert

And the Apple Phanbois have arrived. Welcome

    • sirpaul

I love MS and all, but I have to agree with Gazoobee. I don’t like the shape of this thing at all (looks + ergonomic design). It looks a bit more like a novelty item than anything else. When I am on the computer, I like to have my fingers spread out at different levels, particularly my pinkie finger. This mouse design does not allow this at all. Just doesn’t seem right. MS has made some great mice, I just don’t think this will be one of them.

Throw it away and it comes back to you. Ask an aborigine.

  • ron

It’s better when you give it a shot of Viagra.

    Straightens right out!

  • wekebu

Probably too wide for a woman’s hand. Every mouse that I’ve tried excepting the older Gyration, has been too wide and will cause pain in my palm.

I’ve got a Wacom tablet. I use the pen as a mouse and the pain is completely gone.

    Beautiful design though.

    • Yowza

She said Gyration. Heh he he

Oh my goodness….. oh my goodness……Sell your Microsoft stock, this is all they got. RIM and Microsoft are made for each other.

  • PAPINYC

    The big question is this:

Will this be released with and packaged with the much anticipated Windows Mobile 7, or was it a “left over” from the KIN series?

Either way, 3 failures will make for good company together. I could be wrong but, I don’t see how, biomechanically and physically, this will be a practical mouse.

  • Joe

Still prefer my Logitech TrackMan Wheel 3-Button Grey Trackball Mouse w/ Scroll Wheel by Logitech. My wrists no longer hurt since I started using mine and I have much greater control than a mouse when I use my 3D programs.

  • PAPINYC

    P.S.

Turn it upside-down and you have a great stove-top spoon dish.

  • MZ

It’s a normal mouse! Nothing special about it…. AT ALL! Seriously… It’s stupidly expensive, and does nothing different from a normal $5 mouse…

    • Steve

I disagree. Try putting your shoes on using a Logitech mouse!

  • PAPINYC

    Good one Steve !

They should rename it “The Shoehorn, by Microsoft”

  • Brian

Gimme better functionality, not a better look – when it comes to a mouse, anyway.

When I look at the shape of my hand while mousing, it seems that MS got the curvature backwards. I feel that the buttons should be on the other end.

  • justjohnmichael

Buy 2…poor arch support in the feet is leading cause of “Flat Foot Syndrome.”

  • Thai

I think I saw these for sale at bestbuy?

  • Bill

Question is “will it blend?” lol

  • Legion

LOL it looks like a type 2 phaser from star trek the next generation

  • Jarrett

The only question I have is this, will Black&Decker file a lawsuit for MSFT stealing the look of their Dust-Buster (plus)?

    • Jarrett’s illegitimate son

      Dear dad the douchebag,

      Stop breathing. Now.

  • jOjO

I think the mouse look wonderful. I will definitely get one. Many of my friends have the same opinion as me.

  • mara

This one would be even more better if it will cost below 30 USD. Microsoft arc touch Impression.

  • http://www.debomedia.com Donvil
