Motorola Jordan Android handset for T-Mobile to get down and dirty (and wet)

Exclusive

Boost Mobile might have the Motorola i1 as a ruggedized Android handset, but we’ve just been informed that T-Mobile will be upping the stakes. A new Motorola Android phone, codenamed Jordan, is set for a November launch on T-Mo. The interesting thing about the Motorola Jordan is not that it is just a ruggedized handset, bur rather that we’ve heard the phone will actually be completely waterproof down to 10 meters (that’s just shy of 33-feet for those of you who are metrically challenged). Even IP67 certified. So, the phone will be swimming with the fishes at launch then?

Thanks, Daddy G.!

Jordan Knight. New Kids on the Block. Isn’t TMobile for the tweens that love boy bands anyways?

And for us peeps that love 3+Mbps down/1.3Mbps up speed consistently. Not sure at what point I’d submerge my phone 32 feet under water though.

I really like the new site.

I’ve definitely had some interest in a waterproof phone in the past, I’ve tried out a couple of the Verizon/Casio waterproof models, the problem has always been all the modern comforts that have to be abandoned to keep water out. The form factors of these has always been rather brick sized, not to mention that the speakers have had some pretty poor sound quality. A phone I’ll keep an eye out for, but at the end of the day, if they take too much out for waterproofing, it might be easier to just keep it dry.

I’d be surprised, if I was the demographic they are targeting, but I’m a swim coach, and I’m seriously intrigued to see how this one comes out.

I also do swim lessons and operate as tertiary responder for the lifeguards, and I often have to be in the water.

There are a handful of apps that I use on my Droid now for meets and practices (i.e. stopwatch, stroke rate, and HyTek Live Results), and am always paranoid about dropping my phone in.

Having seen enough coaches pull out waterlogged phones, I’d even be tempted to purchase these for my staff!

(Wish they had it for Verizon, though.)

I’m getting this one to add up to my Air Jordan collection.

Is it gonna have more hardware controls then? Because water kind of screws up conduction on a touchscreen.

But, can it swim under water and not get wet?
