Samsung working on GPS update for Galaxy S, due out in September

General

This may not be the news you’re looking for, but at least it is something. Samsung web product analyst, Carla Saaverda, tweeted that her company is currently testing a software fix for the Galaxy S GPS bug and that it should be released sometime in September. Not really much else to say about it. What do you think of this timeline? Good, bad, or indifferent? How is your GPS experience on your Galaxy S phone?

Why do people rely on a computer to tell them how to get places? Use your brain, read a map, and stop complaining that you have to do something. Human’s end is when we can’t do anything when the electricity is off-fir sone of you, that seems to be yesterday…

Use your brain. It is a terrible thing to waste…

    • being able to read a map isn’t the point.
Point is, people paid 200$ for a phone with a feature broken. Not to mention if they can’t or don’t fix it, you are past your 30 day window and couldn’t return the phone even if they didn’t fix it.

Would it be ok if you bought a playstation 3 that played everything fine except blu-ray movies?
Everything else is fine right? only missing One feature…still plays games and regular dvds.
Don’t worry, rumor is you might be able to watch blu-ray movies in 4 to 6 weeks.

Why don’t you use a typewriter and send your comments through USPS to boygenius.

Its a broken feature, it should be fixed… I can read a map, but its a darn sight easier, quicker and safer to listen to a satnav give me instructions – saves me having to check the map. I can make a fire, but I prefer to cook using my oven… its easier and I don’t end up stinking like smoke. I could fill my home with twigs, leaves and mud to keep warm, but I choose to use central heating for efficiencies sake. People use electricity… welcome to the 21st Century.Next time, I would think about the actual issue before spitting your dummy out the pram.

I get great reception in and around Denver. I am on the vibrant and have been since day one. I have consistently used this whenever I am headed anywhere I don’t know well and even just for craps and crack ups. I have only lost GPS once after finding it. That was in the middle of a lake in the middle of nowhere fifty miles from Denver and twenty miles from a highway. Not an issue at all for me. And no, I was on GPS,

*I was on GPS not cell tower reception. Sorry for the double post. Getting used to this phone and stock keyboard still.

After getting the new software rom from xda my GPS is 10x better than it was! I suggest every captivate user to do this using Odin 3

my vibrant rocks, but the gps signal is way unreliable

    Posted from BGR Mobile (iPhone).

Why does it take 2 months to put out a software fix that xda seems to have done already?

And how can they launch their flagship phone (epic 4g) with Android 2.1 a month after moto and htc put froyo out?

Sammy seems to be making a habit of this.

I also have issues with the GPS on my Vibrant. Looking forward to this fix!

September will be too late. I won’t keep this phone past 30 days if the gps isn’t fixed. I’ve tried all the tricks on xda and on Android Central. Still not functioning.

To the person who said use a map. I love maps. I don’t travel much, so I don’t use gps for travel. However, there are several apps that use gps. Google Sky is/might be fun if it only knew where I am standing.

All you have to do is google “Samsung Vibrant GPS fix”…

…simple instructions are availble for how to resolve this issue. As soon as I bought this phone i did this fix so i’ve never experienced the “GPS issue”. I do, however, use the GPS everyday and think it’s fantastic.

same here. fixed easily. if you do a hard reset you have to reapply the fix but it works

How is your GPS experience on your Galaxy S phone?
not too bad. i don’t use it too often.

I have the captivate and the gps sucks. I went through the “fix” on xda and it didnt work for spit. My gps will get a lock really quick if I’m outside and standing still. But as soon as I move it loses the lock and places me all over the place. Even at walking speeds.

Very disappointing they released a phone without even testing the gps.

I just don’ t understand, I was trying to know when is the update to 2.2 but i keep find people complaining about the gps, I could chosse any phone on my update, because had aiphone i thought it can’t be so much better, I was wrong si wring it just blow away apple but I think gps is fine.
