Samsung Windows Phone 7 device breaks cover

General

We can’t help but think that Microsoft is going to have to take the lid off of some Windows Phone 7 hardware-soon, because right now it seems like it is about to blow off any minute. Today, we have another image of a Windows Phone 7 device, this particular one is from OEM Samsung, pictured on Twitter. The device could be a development prototype, but the Internet is abuzz with rumors of this being the AT&T bound Cetus. Hopefully, we’ll have some firm dates, confirmed vendors, and detailed specifications to report soon.

I may be color blind, but damn that blue is lame.

Looks seriously HOT!! Possibly the best looking phone I’ve ever seen.

Don’t think I can convert to WP7 for a while though. Android is too far ahead of the game but I may be willing to switch in a couple of years time if it takes off

You weren’t joking there? You really think that is seriously hot?

It reminds me of SonyEricsson’s Xperia X10.

I’d rather wait for the Cetus, which looks similar to Galaxy S hehehe

I can’t imagine more boring home screen.

Meh, looks UGLY. I have a Zune HD, now that is an incredible device and I know that Microsoft is going for that feel, but that home screen is hideous.

I saw one of these on a video loop in a Clear Store
I think a wimax version may be coming out next year

Why is Microsoft so fond of blue screens?

That is one butt ugly home screen.

the home screen doesn’t have to be blue, i think

it looks unsophisticated, boring, and old.

To all the home-screen haters… I think if you take a step back and realize that it’s more about functionality than the actual look of the screenshot. I mean, granted, that particular screenshot is a bad one, because it doesn’t really show the true value of those tiles… but when the tiles are actually alive with real information (Facebook friends photos, game information, and other specifics) you’ll probably see that it’s completely different than anything else – and in a good way, that it’s incredibly useful and FUNCTIONAL…

That having been said, I have to agree, that’s a very boring physical phone. What were they thinking? Did they come from Bizarro Land where everything is square? :)

I’ll have to see it in real life to decide, but a still photo doesn’t do the OS justice.

Icons and text appear “cutoff” at the bottom because the home screen scrolls vertically.

This makes a lot of sense since the phone is longer in the vertical direction than it is in the horizontal direction (due to the aspect ratio).

It also allows fluid scrolling of the homescreen. All the OS’s “ratchet” side-to-side, once screen at a time.

Right now, the overall design seems sound. The icons are live, and we have no idea whether we can change them.

The irony is that once you get into the OS, the transitions and animations between screens look incredibly smooth and offer a really polished look.

This is in contrast to other OS’s where you click an icon, and then wait for the program to appear. The movement of the actual OS makes the rest look dated..

I hope this gives Android some actual competition; I’ve seen images that would make me think it could, and others…not so much.

Microsoft wouldn’t be cool if they relocated their headquarters to Antarctica.
