Motorola's DROID R2-D2 Special Edition to be released September 30th

General

It looks like those images that surfaced of the Verizon Wireless DROID 2 R2-D2 Special Edition are the real deal. Android Central was sent an image of a Verizon R2-D2 promo poster — located at a Star Wars convention — that pictures the same exact device that was showcased yesterday, and the device is listed as “coming to your galaxy”  on September 30th. So there you have it. Thoughts? Any takers?

Piss-poor graphic and execution. I was wondering when the inevitable spew of Star Wars themed garbage was going to be set lose upon us…
Not to say I’m not a Star Wars fan – I am – but seriously, that thing is one fugly Droid and deserves to be scrapped in an imperial garbage compactor.

R2D2 deserves better than a square head and losing his legs just to fit the form factor of a phone which is going to be obsolete come this holiday (If the rumors of a Motorola 2ghz offering are to be believed).
This is just a quick yank on the teat of the franchise cash-cow, nothing more.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Star Wars themed “Droids” – but this first outing leaves me cringing instead of drooling. You could at least make it LOOK like you’re honoring your fan base and characters when you sign the approval on these things, George.

if you buy the droid docking station that is R2D2 painted as well, the whole form factor comes together as R2D2, legs and all. what im saying is, for R2D2 to look like him self you need the docking station…

“Buy something else to complete the set and make the R2D2 Droid look more like R2D2″.

Should have seen that one coming. *eye roll*
        I’ll pass, thanks.
You people do realize that because the graphic is painted on the BACK of the Droid, when you dock it so square-headed R2D2 gets legs, you wont be able to see the screen. Unless of course, the screen changes over to the same graphic used on the back and maybe animates somewhat. Then and only then would I say that someone put a little thought into it.

You seem to be putting some good thought into it, Joe. They ought to hire you to design the next Star Wars themed phones. Judging from your quick little web comment, I’d say you’ve got what it takes. Unfortunately, however, I’m not from Verizon/Google and couldn’t help you get that job, if, of course, you were interested in it. :(
