Google's Chrome to Phone: send information from Chrome to your Android device

Breaking

Aside from Voice Actions, Google also announced a new extension for the Chrome web browser called Chrome to Phone. We’ll let Google explain:

The new Chrome to Phone extension adds a button to your Google Chrome browser that instantly sends the current web page, map, YouTube video, or selected phone number or text to your Android device running Froyo (or Android 2.2).

The extension is available today (in English only) and is waiting for all those who meet the Android 2.2 requirement. Just hit the Android Market for the Chrome to Phone app, install the Chrome to Phone browser extension, and you’re ready to go! We’ve got Google’s video demo queued up for you after the break.

I wonder if a Firefox extension could be created for this as well? Seems like it should be possible.

Nevermind, it already exists! “Send to Phone” is the name. Wow, those devs are fast!

      • WalterSobchak

        It’s freakin instant.

    • Nek

No, It has been out for months (I’ve been using it since May). The Boy Genius Report article is misleading.

      • Kar

This is correct. I have been using it since Froyo roll out on my N1 since late May on both firefox and chrome. They even release the phone to Chrome. I haven’t tried it out yet because I am on cyranogenMod and I can install it, yet. But it is quite handy.

  • Name

Um.. this isn’t anything new. I’ve had it on my phone and in Firefox via an extension for weeks.

  • Daniel Blois

Same here had it for weeks. Now I am looking for something to do the opposite send to Desktop from Phone on Firefox.

    • Daniel Blois

      I mean desktop on firefox

    • WalterSobchak

      android-2-cloud maybe?
I haven’t used it, but I have heard some rumblings.

This has been available for quite a while now for both Chrome and Firefox.

I was thinking the exact same thing when I started reading this. The Chrome to phone that we have been running is a third party app. Google finally released the official version.

I dont think original version could send phone numbers though…

  • W1LD5TYL3

This is not new by any means, I have been using this w/ Chrome and my Droid (2.2) for at least a month now. Come on, BGR, this is old news!

  • Blackberry is Dead

    DROID FTW!!!

  • matthew r

Well it would be nice if Verizon would update my droid, so it would work…

  • Brian

Thanks, I wasn’t aware of this project!

  • Sammy

Wow BGR I’ve had this on my phone and browser for months now

  • bob

    what’s the point…
what the hell does this do that an email with a link doesnt
without having to load something new on the phone and browser?

    • WalterSobchak

can an email link load up driving directions in the Google maps app? or an apps download page in the market? Or allow you to click across 25 bookmarks on someone’s laptop real quick and then star them in your history on your android so as to add new bookmarks efficiently?

  • Zapote21

Wow people… Yes, its been out for a long time, in limited beta form… We all know that… But for the non geek crowd, today was the official release. So yes its news…

  • Joshie

I friggin’ want 2.2 already. Come on, VZW!

  • SmackAPanda

Soo was it just me or did anyone else find it ironic that in the beginning of the video they were using apple safari to explain a piece of android software?

    • euler
