Oracle CEO Larry Ellison calls HP CEO firing "cowardly"

Last Friday, HP CEO Mark Hurd resigned amidst sexual harassment allegations that his former employer chose to make public. Monday, in a letter to the New York Times, Oracle CEO Larry Ellison did not mince words about his thoughts on the forced resignation of Mr. Hurd. “The H.P. board just made the worst personnel decision since the idiots on the Apple board fired Steve Jobs many years ago. [...] In losing Mark Hurd, the H.P. board failed to act in the best interest of H.P.’s employees, shareholders, customers and partners. The H.P. board admits that it fully investigated the sexual harassment claims against Mark and found them to be utterly false.” Ellison went on to say, “publishing known false sexual harassment claims is not good corporate governance; it’s cowardly corporate political correctness.” Hurd, who had been with HP for five years, is set to receive a severance package of cash and stock worth an estimated $28 million. At least he won’t go away empty handed?

        She’s wrinkled and ugly, the makup is the only thing keeping the world from seeing it all in full ugly bloom.

        She’s done reality TV and the claim was found to be totally false.

        Larry has a point. The investigation was about one thing, but they fired him over false expense reports. (I’m sure most HP employees who file an expense report weekly are glad nobody has investigated all their expense reports!) Given his impact on the company, they should have made him repay the money from those expenses and been done with it. Because they’re going to hurt a lot more letting him go.

        He’s not my “boy” and I have no stake in HP. FAKE claims of sexual harassment should not be rewarded.
        (HP’s investigation found the claim to be false.)

    Unprofessional. This whole website is a joke. Stories are outdated, articles are almost one sentence long and sometimes they don’t even include images.

    BGR called Hurd Palm’s CEO because of BGR’s bigotry. BGR doesn’t like Palm / Palm Pre / WebOS. They hope that putting a spin like this to the article will hurt Palm more. Palm doesn’t need any help with this – they’ve managed to shoot themselves in the foot pretty well all by themselves. Even as a Pre Plus owner I can admit this.

    I’ll get right to the point on 2 things. 1) Hurd deserved to be fired. Especially when he previously spoke to HP employees about employee conduct and then he turned around and didn’t the same thing himself said that would not be tolerated. 2) He was fired with just cause, he should not would walk away with 40+ million.

      HP board people look really week and scared in this story. It was a horrible move by them.

    Well now Mr. Ellison can hire his buddy. What the hell, they all deserve another CEO who flaunts the rules in place and rewrites the meaning of moral values and ethics.

    In my company, you knowingly falsify an expense account or are witness to the same you are fired. End of story. Why is there even a debate about this?

      Simple as that. However things are not so simple. What the media forgets to remind you, is that this SOB became the CEO by elbowing his predecessor by blackmailing the board members. He is said to have installed surveillance cameras on them. He was bound to go down on his first mistake, and the board members took their sweet revenge. As for his bloated profit reports, big wheels move slow, and all of the profit HP made during his tenure was the result of investment and policies set by Carly Fiorina. The same way the guy who takes over him, will see HP hit by the screw up of this guy.

        It was Patricia Dunn who was found to be behind the surveillance, Hurd was never found to be the one who first requested any such activity. In fact, Hurd’s knowledge of it at all is a matter of dispute. And unlike Dunn, Hurd was never even indicted for any charges in that matter. (Even the evidence against Dunn was weak, the charges were all dropped that were against her and 3 others.)

        Where is your evidence of this “blackmailing” of board members by Mark Hurd? You’re making some SERIOUS allegations and should be careful if you don’t have very solid evidence.

        Hurd is the victim of a false sexual harassment claim, says HPs own internal investigation. But they rewarded him by firing him over some expense account issues. What a crock.
