Apple iPod Event Slated For Mid-September?

Software

Rumor has it that Apple will be scheduling its annual iPod event for mid-September, which is a little bit later than in years past. This contradicts rumors from just last week that the event would be held in mid-August. Apple has held these iPod events every year since 2005. Last year, they announced their September 9 “Let’s Rock” event on August 31. With only a few days of shelf life left for this rumor, we’d expect invitations to start going out in the next few weeks.

However, as a rumor recap, whenever the event takes place, there’s strong evidence to suggest that we’ll see an iPod Touch refresh. It is likely that we’ll see a high-resolution Retina Display, along with front and rear facing cameras (just like the iPhone 4). The iPod Nano is also expected to get the refresh treatment, and some are wondering if it receive tiny touch screens as well. You might remember those. There may even be some iTunes announcements as well (cloud-based music streaming, anyone?), even though there are whispers that Apple is scaling back its ambitions in that arena, for the time being. In any event, let’s hope this shindig happens sooner than later — we’re counting the days.

Can’t wait. I’m not buying an iPhone and this would be the best alternative.

I honestly think the iPod will come like the iPad. That is, with data capability through signing up with a network. I say that because you’d want more than just wifi for some of your apps to work. For example, GPS directions, etc.

Only thing it would lack that an iPhone has is phone functionality. If so, that would be stellar.

Thats a possibility with all of the ipod/ ipad wifi hot spots that are already hitting the market you never know.. It might be the last AT&T only apple product..

Only buying it if it has the new cameras and a microphone.

Can’t wait. Will this finally be the long wanted Verizon/Apple launch? Finally!

The idea of an iPod Touch with retina display and dual cameras (or any camera at all) is exciting news. It would seemingly put Apple ahead of the competitors in the PMP genre again.

I’m no troll or fanboy, but the Zune HD is twice the MUSIC player the iPod is. Now if they only had an App store similar to Apple’s, it could compete.

Hopefully this is all legit though. Could it be possible that we see another bump in memory? What with companies being able to put 2 flash chips on one board and all, it would be stellar to see a 128GB iPod Touch. Just me getting my hopes up again, I presume.

It’s only a matter of time before communication runs on video/text. Voice only will be a thing of the past, almost rude to make a non video call. Wow, can you imagine companies using this for their sales force? No more calls to your boss in pjs.

      orly?

So you’re going to use up your 200mb/month data for video calls?

      also…
you: “Hey let’s video call each other!”
me: “Cool. Wait. Let me find a wifi hotspot first, but in the mean time, we can talk on our cell.”

Wow, I don’t mean to be rude but your post is full of all kinds of fail.

      Again:
Apple. Did. Not. Invent. Video. Calling. It has been around for years (soon to be decades). It has not caught on for various reasons.

I, for one, like to call in my underwear. I like to be able to answer a call without caring how my hair is, the length of the boogers running out of my nose, or if I’m on the toilet or in a porn shop.

There might however be a slight chance that Apple will popularize it, and it will be used.

Does Apple will still make their products smaller with this release, I expect the nano and shuffle to be half the size and double the memory and battery capacity. That would be “magical” as iPod nano 5th have done at apple’s September 9, 2009 event (via ifunia ipod column).

    • Austin

nano will not gte smaller only a little bit wider to accomidate a 3 inch touchscreen. its going to be the ipod nano touch. no wifi ut strictly a touchscreen music player with apps. but apple would die if they made the nano smaller.

This makes all the sense in the world. The “buy a mac, get an iPod” campaign doesn’t end until September 9 and that’s probably the main way they are trying to get rid of the iPod surplus with. At this point, iPod touches with FaceTime and camera flashes are likely, in my opinion, but what they do with nano’s, shuffles, and classics is totally up in the air. I just wish they would stop playing footsie with customers and start jacking up the flash memory in iTouches and get rid of the classics. And shuffles are garbage. No one should be buying those and Apple should stop making them.

What do the iPhone4 and the new iPods have in common? Neither can get a 3G signal.

You guy’s have missed the biggest give away ever on the date. If you go to a newsletter about back to school where you can get a free iPod Touch, at the bottom it tells you when the offer is up. This year it says the offer will end on September 7, so that means the event will most likely be on the 8th. This happened last year, and I am pretty sure the year before that.
