Exclusive: Verizon Wireless 2010/2011 roadmap!

Breaking

One of our Verizon Wireless sources has dropped a whole bunch of info in our laps. We’re talking intimate details of Verizon Wireless’ plans for the rest of 2010, 2011 and even some 2012 plans. Android tablets, LTE MiFi units, Android 3.0, video conferencing, and a whole lot more. Read on for the full details!

  • In addition to the Motorola DROID and Motorola DROID X, we’re told Motorola will launch a new DROID handset, the Motorola DROID Pro. It is supposed to have a 1.3GHz CPU, 4″ screen and global roaming capabilities. Estimated launch of November 2010
  • Motorola is working with Verizon on a “slab form-factor” device that sort of looks like an old Motorola Q but features a full touchscreen and global roaming. It will run Android 2.2. Maybe this will be a lower cost, MOTOBLUR handset?
  • There are a lot more Android invasions happening before the end of the year, we’re told. This includes a global Android device from both Samsung and HTC.
  • Samsung is working on a 7″ screen Android tablet with front-facing camera. Motorola is also working on a tablet as well, except it will sport a 10″ screen, either 1GHz or 1.3GHz CPU, front-facing camera, and Android 3.0. Don’t expect the Motorola so soon though, as we’re informed that while the launch was supposed to happen in December, Android 3.0 will probably hold up the release of that device and we should expect it around February 2011.
  • Verizon Wireless is aiming and on track to have at least 75% of the country covered in LTE coverage by April 2012
  • There will be a Novatel LTE MiFi device available in January or February that will apparently support up to 10 simultaneous Wi-Fi users.
  • Lastly, we’re told LTE data pricing will stick at $59.99/month, though it’s unclear what the data allowance will be. (This is for data cards, not smartphones)

Regardless of whether an iPhone comes to Verizon Wireless anytime soon, it’s obviously clear they aren’t slowing down with their huge Android push. With LTE coming up, and a major stable of high-performance smartphones, it seems like Verizon has positioned themselves to win. We’ll see how the end of the year and 2011 shape up before making any concrete judgements, though. Did we get anyone excited?

I really don’t understand why these “sources” that came from Bloomberg and not TechCrunch don’t have names or titles tacked on to them. Until I am using a Verizon iPhone, I will be skeptical of anything else I hear. I still don’t think anything will happen until an iPhone is LTE capable. I just got my AT&T iPhone today and switched from my HTC Incredible. Feel free to follow me on Twitter at the link. I always love talking phones. I’ll be posting my thoughts on Droid vs. iPhone soon, not as a “fanboy” of either but as someone who will have used both.

You are a fool. A CDMA iPhone is coming in Jan to VZ. Likely to be announced just before CES, Seidenberg is keynote speaker.

love BG, make a boring day better.

  • tomp860

There’s no mention of the 2GHZ monster smartphone that Motorola confirmed a while back.

  • vaxick

The Droid Pro you say!? If you actually kept up on phone news BG, you’d have known about that phone months ago.

Who gives a crap about this Android based leaks.

We all know that companies will be producing all sorts of gadgets that will be Android based. Now, if you released some secret information that mentioned Verizon won’t be doing any further Android phones or devices, that would be news.

As a side note, using an Android based phone feels like something out of 90s. There are so many inconsistencies in the OS and programs. It feels like a mix of using a Windows Mobile device and a Samsung.

Android has a few things that make it feel like a modern OS. Voice recognitions works very well and the multiple home screens with customizable gadgets are pretty cool. Beyond that, the experience is so inconsistent between the OS and the varying level of app quality.

Its clear that iPhrankie is a iphone user thats upset droid is taking over. The only phones sold here are droid because the iphones will not work in rual america due to poor signals outputs from the phone. You have to switch to another at&t phone to get a signal. I know serveral people who tried them and switched to verizon droid because they just dont work. (people in the city should not comment because you dont know how these phones work outside your area)

  • jerry

Iphrankie ?? what the hell is wrong with that ? If you buy an HTC device .. you get an HTC experience .. if you buy a Samsung device .. you get a samsung experience… The beauty of Android is that you can have an HTC while your friends have Samsung yet you can use the same apps..

and I have used a Samsung .. although I own an HTC phone .. the main difference is in the UI … I can get the same apps for both phones.. the apps work on both …

You guys spend way too much time on blogs instead of actually using the devices … HTC has a nice uniqe interface.. Samsung has a nice one as well..

No, that’s not the way Stevie said it should be! Conform!! Sit in your seat and listen to the smartphone gospel according to SJ. Don’t question the fact that every iPhone looks and functions like Susie’s next door. Differences are a sign of weakness and non-conformity. How dare you question Steve and his drones on how a phone could/should be different from someone else!!!!!

Actually, the look of the iPhone had been nine yrs before the iPhone had been been envisioned by Apple:
        http://www.gsmarena.com/alcatel_ot_com-31.php

The Alcatel One Touch COM even had screen rotation, albeit not an auto-ish one.

And an antenna you didn’t need to hold differently (SNCR).
Well, Steve told everyone to shut up about potential antenna issues as it turns out, but he can always blame somebody else, can he:
“It was Mr. Jobs, rather than Mr. Papermaster, who decided to move forward with the development of the phone even though the company was aware of the risks of the antenna design as much as a year ago”

We need more information about LTE pricing on phones.

    • insideinfo

LTE Phones will not be out until 2012.

  • UCSDStudent

Ugh! Where is the Blackberry Pearl 3G on Verizon?! I want it yesterday!

    • http://www.twitter.com/jimmyontheradio @jimmyontheradio

Thank you. I am glad I am not the only one. I was so excited for that, I Googled it almost every day in anticipation and now it seems I can’t find much information on it at all, other than that it’s definitely taking the AT&T road first.

      • UCSDStudent

        I feel your pain. : (

BGR, Please find out more information on a Verizon Pearl 3G. There is a market for it. We want it!

    • Mitch

      Who cares? Really.

RIM is dead and the Curve’s screen has a TERRIBLE resolution and pixel density.

      • UCSDStudent

Um, because we like the operating system you f-ing idiot.

  • tomp860
  • palomosan

Verizon is killing it, That’s the reason I’m not buying another phone until LTE drops, I want GSM + LTE + Android, it’s about time.

  • Bryan

Been with Big Red for 9 years now and I’m not going anywhere!

  • Mrwirez

    NO ONE likes Jarrett!

  • meh

Yeah…that whole Google/Verizon announcement today kind of killed a lot of that Android goodness feeling I’ve had going on for the past year. If Google does indeed push with VZ to have wireless internet be unregulated(see VZ regulates it), I’ll be ditching Android.

Google seems on the precipice of changing their motto from “Don’t be evil” to “weevil”…and I don’t mean the cotton pest…

  • JT

Sooo…the Android fanbois here are burying pro iPhone commentary…just to support your collective ideals about an effing cell phone. Sad days ahead. iPhone rules the roost for a reason…and Android’s “openness” is up to the providers and manufacturer’s..read DroidX.

So, way to be ‘open’ minded you Android fannys! I like that better…fannys.

    • Look@myhorse

We don’t bury iphone commentary. We bury stupid rude comments such as yours. Android vs iPhone? Who cares. They both have their following, and both have their faults. I personally would never get one but I respect your right to chose to conform.

      • Electrofreak

        Well said, thank you.

  • diane k.

Can anyone tell me if Verizon is getting the Torch?? I WANT A NEW BLACKBERRY LIKE MY STORM BUT BETTER!!!

  • undecided

Any clue whether the Droid Pro will have a real slide-out keyboard

    • RedBank

yes…Droid Pro aka (world edition) is supposed to have a keyboard and a 1.2 gHz processor.

  • JTKong

Just bring on the Storms 3 and 4!!!

  • Corn Poo

I have a huge boner right now.

  • Barack Hussein Obama

I think I will wait for the DROID EXTREME 5G 2 in February

  • alex

take a dump, press some keyboard keys on it and you’ll have the torch.

  • http://375blog.wordpress.com Joseph375

When will they start making LTE-compatible phones on verizon?

  • Jake

wow everyone says the apple fanboys (myself) are bad, you android fanboys are even worse. just because someone likes the iphone or whatever phone better than android you guys just completely shred them to bits. i have had a droid phone for a month and i am returning it to get the iphone 4 tmrow. the software on it is glitchy, and quite frankly i miss my iphone. in my opinion android app market SUCKS!!! terrible apps. the only think i liked was moving backgrounds and the samsung swype keypad. that was pretty cool.

  • That guy over there

what about the Moto Droid 2 R2D2 edition…seriously BGR wtf i though you would have sum info on this

  • GO VZ! GO DROID!!

Been with Verizon for 3 years now. Came from using a Windows Mobile phone, to Blackberry and now to Droid. I am simply loving my Verizon :)

  • tm

Would like to see more info on the LTE modems. DO not need any LTE phone. It would be nice to have several plans at diff speeds.

  • Joe Elliott

I don’t give to craps about how much cooler apps are on either device, I don’t care if I can customize mine and you can customize yours, or that they cant be customized.

My #1 care is touch-screen response and there is no argument the iPhone, however it senses and buffers and predicts, however it does it – it is by far the best touch response device currently on the market hands down.

when HTC and Google and Samsung can make a device that responds that well, I will consider buying one.

Until them, Suzy next door and I will enjoy our iphones.
