DigiTimes: Quanta to make RIM's BlackPad tablet, runs Android?

Rumor

According to blog DigiTimes, Quanta Computer will be charged with manufacturing Research In Motion’s rumored tablet, dubbed BlackPad. The blog cites Chinese publication Apply Daily, and writes:

The tablet (BlackPad) will support Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, as well as 3G through connection to a Blackberry smartphone. The device will be priced at US$499 and Quanta will start shipping orders in September with volumes to reach two million units in 2010 and eight million units in 2011.

Where the report gets a little suspect is here: “Research In Motion’s Android tablet PC [...] will be launched in November 2010.” RIM shipping an Android product? Don’t get us wrong, we would love to see it, but that’s not in the cards for RIM. Especially not with the purchase of QNX.

Can some one go and Slap digitimes for even reporting this…

  • john

No, RIM is shipping it with IOS.

I think you meant Apple Daily, rather than Apply Daily.

Along with the next iPad, blackpad will dual-boot Android to the chagrin of apple and blackberry fangirls everywhere.

Two-way. Just the way you like it big boy. I predict by next April you’ll like it up the a** so much that it will only be one-way. That’s my prediction to go along yours.

      Yeah baby!

      • jawbreaker

he already likes it up his a**- he’s an android-fag
        no prediction there

It’s an article from DigitTimes and your questioning it’s legitimate?! They are one step below Gizmodo.

    • Android

It is actually halfway legit. The blackpad will actually dual-boot Android, just like the next iPad.

      • WalterSobchak

        Dude! Shut up!

      • Android

Don’t have that much longer to wait until this dual-boot shindig is released (blackpad). Next april for the dual-boot iPad.

On a side note, it’s painfully obvious that Andrew does not proofread his posts… Like ever…

Not to worry, BlackPad fans. RIM has been careful to port their stunning new technology, SureFail, over to Android. So, whether you’re rocking OS 6 or Android, if you’re on an RIM device, your device will ship with SureFail. Crisis averted.

    • Android

Close. It will actually dual-boot both Android and Blackberry OS 6.1.23.1

is surefail technology a workable substitute for apple’s all-new left hand functionality? which is due to be introduced in q3 ’11 on their next generation device?

    • John

      You’re a moron

      • Pt

hahah well we can’t all be super-intelligent mac fanboys.

      • jawbreaker

        you mean mac FAG-boys

  • Valace2

Good lord, even you yourself said it wasn’t going to happen, why bother even reporting on this bogus story. THINK!

  • Frank Abagnale

Android blows…it will likely ship with 1.6 if it does ship with android..and in typical blackberry fashion, never get a legit update

  • level

can we get past the “pad” paradigm? ipad, upad, wepad, enough with the damn pad.

  • theking25

this isnt right, it wouldnt be a blackberry without blackberry os. Its like an iphone, ipad, or ipod touch without ios.

  • patrick

Think about it. If Rim wants to compete with tablets it needs apps, something it has very little of at the moment. And wouldn’t this be a great stepping stone for Rim? They now would only need to produce some sort of Blackberry OS Skin to Android and, BOOM, they would remain relevant. After the Tablet I would think they would Apply something similar to their tired phones and everyone would be happy. Makes sense to me. Who just beat out Rim as the leading smartphone OS in America? Not the forbidden fruit.

  • jk

did i read this right, it has 3G, but you have to tether it to a BB phone?

  • iamajim

Patrick-I think you’re on to something here. I agree it makes perfect sense. And of course it’s from Quanta, who else could/would build it. They seem to build everything nowadays. But I still like iDingleBerry better lol.

QNX folks. QNX. It was listed in the article.

Google it if you’re so ignorant you don’t know what that means.

Android my arse. They’re hardly going to go backwards having bought a market leader in real time operating systems.

Some of you might already be RIM/QNX customers without realising – assuming you drive a decent car that is.

The possibilities are endless. A portable device that seamlessly integrates your home, vehicle and office using your BlackBerry for internet connectivity, and streaming media wherever you are

The carriers must be ecstatic at the possible revenue streams. Expect BlackBerrys to be pushed hard this Christmas.

  • rederikus

I hope that tethering will not be somehow limited to BlackBerry phones.

    WANT.
