Does that update that is going to save this device include true mutli-touch?

    Yeah, kind of thought so.

Shame, it works very nicely on other upper end Androids sold presently.

And this is going to be sold for about the same, No surprise there after all,.. It’s a Sony!!

I posted this before in another blog so just reposting for information purposes for those who are thinking of getting the X10.

I have had the X10 since March ( I have the X10i, the X10a is the US Version) I use it on the At&t network via edge. Im a “want it now” buyer when it comes to gadgets so I understand the ridiculousness of At&t just now putting this phone in its line up. And the ridiculousness of SE not giving an update to 2.1 or 2.2 still!
This phone was very hot in the press when it was first released. I ordered the phone and people inquire and admire it all the time. It’s well made, the SE specific UI is fantastic. I have the white one so it looks even better/ extra sexy. I did a software update the other day which does not upgrade the OS but did add a few new apps and the battery life seems to have improved significantly since I first bought it.
The 4″ cap touch screen is nice and front to back the phone does not scratch easily at all, seriously well made.
This phone would be a true iphone/ droid x/ evo rival if it had the latest OS and were marketed correctly. But i guess just like the Dell Streak and Nokia N900, SE just does not do a great job of listening to the wants and needs of the general public.
Overall the SE X10 is a very nice phone if you want to stand out and be different from alllll the iphone4’s and HTC’s out right now. I think I’m a snobb when it comes to mobile phones so with that said… X10= fail on OS 1.6/ Everything else is great, especially time scape, media scape and the camera. My recorded video’s have been amazingly clear, not choppy and pretty high def without the OS upgrade.

and they will continue to do so if consumers still buy their products.

  • iName

at this price point this will make a great first smartphone. the spec is top notch its just the 1.6 part that sucks :/

  • SVELTE

    gag reflex… lol. nice work.

  • ultraseven32

i might be wrong but, it feels like an insult when a big company release a great phone with a entry level OS. 1.6 serious? i say that no ONE should buy this phone until they pump it with current OS, nothing less than the 2.1 android version. come on sony ericsson, believe more in your products and respect your customers.
    there! i said it!

  • mingkee

What the hell this phone still has 1.6 while most of recently released phones have 2.x even Froyo:
    mobile hotspot
    Flash 10.1
    Adobe reader
Arabic and Hebrew support (my nexus one has them)

    Sorry, it failed this time.

  • ViniD

Wanted this phone 6 months ago, if it came with 2.1 i might give back my captivate. But for now captivate is the shit the screen is flawless and graphics lovin it.

I have a Asian version of the X10 and it’s absolutely a great device; beautifully designed with cool User Interface. I am surprised that it takes so long to get to AT&T because it’s the best selling Android phone smart phone in many countries, including Canada. At $129, it’s 1/4 of the selling price in Asia. I’d bet that AT&T has to subsidize a lot since it’s one of the best Android phones out there.

Performance wise, I don’t see any issue even running on 1.6. It’s very much comparable to my co-worker’s Droid Incredible using 2.1. However, I still prefer the stunning Sony design and the refined UI of the X10. It’s very different than the no-frills vanilla Android handsets with newer OS in my opinion.

  • Lynne

Of course, developers will care about what OS the phone is running, but actual users really don’t care. The average consumer wants to know that they can add gobs of apps to their phones – and you can with this one (comes with 2GB SD, expandable to 32). I’ve used a number of Androids and I like this one the best for a number of reasons. My tops are the SIZE and CLARITY of the screen in all apps. Some interesting media enhancements that you’d expect from Sony, but haven’t checked them all out yet. I use Exchange and this is the best implementation of Exchange mail, calendar, tasks, etc. I’ve yet to see.
