BlackBerry 9800 Torch to be carried by Bell, Rogers, Telus, Virgin Mobile and Vodafone U.K.

General

It looks like RIM is going to be sending the BlackBerry Torch 9800 up north and across the pond. The Globe and Mail is reporting that Canada’s three largest wireless carriers — Bell, Rogers, and Telus — all will be carrying RIM’s latest creation in the not-so-distant future. Rogers has officially confirmed the Globe’s report with a press release saying they will have the 9800 in the “coming weeks,” and Virgin Mobile — in true hipster fashion — tweeted about it. Vodafone U.K. also has a splash page up for the new BlackBerry touch-screen slider device. Anyone north of the border or across the pond have plans to pick one of these bad boys up?

I certainly wish it, and RIM, the very best…

Yeah I’d love to pick one up, hopefully we have it here in Canada soon or they’re going to miss all of us students… Any idea one prices on a three year term telus to be exact..

pimpin!! Cant wait for this bad boy to drop in the t-dot. Cant wait to play with OS6…looks like a normal BB os but on coke, haha. ;) Peaple are being harsh on the Torch which ever blog i surf too..look…it;s a blackberry. thats it. it’s not an iphone, not an android, not some crapy WiMo device…it’s a blackberry…and it will always remain a bb and that’s not a bad thing. No need to f-up a good thing. If u don’t need what a bb offers, move on. but for me? No other phone is better at what a bb is n does, then a bb. People need to understand that it’s a niche product and no matter how glamorized it had and will become, it will always remain a niche product. BB 4 LIFE :)

I’m in the UK and I had been looking forward to getting one for a while. That changed when I read the BGR initial hands-on report. I don’t want a phone to feel maxed out for 18 months… I want a phone with some spare capacity.

The jury is still very much out on this one.

Dont take a Blog’s bias as fact, make your own opinion. Their view is nothing more than that, BGR has been shown to be wrong many times in the past like us all (even on this review stating 512 was lame when its top dog for every other top smart phone on the market)

But since your in the UK one year contracts are nothing to NA, so enjoy one then move on!

When does it come to good old GERMANY?

  • JHUK

I am seriously looking forward to this. It’s kind of shame its coming to Vodafone as I didn’t really want to switch from o2

On the flip side I have barely had any data connectivity from o2 in weeks so roll on the 9800

If I can’t have it with an upgrade (even paying for part of it), then I’m going to buy it outright.

What I don’t get is why anyone still uses a Blackberry. They aren’t that far ahead of the curve as far as email goes anymore. BBM has cross-platform competitors such as Whatsapp, that can be sent between Iphones, Blackberry’s and soon to be Android devices. Take those away and all that’s left is a severely outdated phone, with a piss-poor operating system, that really can’t compete anymore.

Who cares that they have a webkit browser… they should have done that over a year ago. When they finally upgrade the resolution to something worthy of 2010, it will be a miracle.

Hey you dumb A**!! Didnt you get it yet!! RIM is still number 1 in america (smartphone manufacturer not OS) and number 2 in the world next to Nokia! Go get lost with an iphone that drops reception as soon as you touch it or an Android phone that will break as soon as you drop it! And have you seen Whatsapp!!??? It tries to mimick BBM but with no success cause its SOOOOOOOOOOOOO Crapy!

      Are you serious?

I don’t know why anyone likes Google spying on them using Android phones…

People use BlackBerry because its fast, easy to use, and is the best communications tool there is.

I would bet anything that I could write an email, send a facebook message, send a text, and compose a bbm faster then you could on either Android or iPhone…also, I recieve my updates in real time with BB push technology…

Now with 6 BB offers everything other guys had advantages with…now its them that need to catch with communications

Seems since RIM is a Canadian company with homegrown manufacturing, they won’t be ‘sent’ up north…they’ll be sent down south.

  • Bbfan

That’s virgin mobile in Canada right? Not in the us?

    • Matt

That’s correct. Virgin in Canada uses Bell’s HSPA network, whereas in the US its CDMA.

Will see how OS6 works on the 9700. If it’s good, will skip out on the Torch.

This is very good news that now we can enjoy the features of BlackBerry Torch 9800 with our favorite telecom service provider. It looks very amazing now they will create a marvelous competition between themselves.

I will pick one up as soon as it is available. I can’t wait!!

Personally, the iphone is nice but I need the physical keyboard… I don’t care what anyone says but I have fat fingers and the onscreen keyboard doesn’t work, it takes me forever to bang out an email.

Been waiting for this one for a while. The perfect combo, BB keyboard and a touchscreen display.

As for all the comments on it being maxed out, I really can’t see a 667 MHz processor versus a 1 gig processor being that much different to be honest. I think it is just over exagerated. I’m finding all the analysts are in a love frenzy with Apple… they even brushed aside the poor antenna design. A very trivial mistake for a large technology company… ! They are just looking to find something wrong with BB IMO.

    Anyhow can’t wait!

I’m certainly will be picking one up for Christmas as a treat myself a gift since my wife just got me a 9700 for my bday in March. Love my BB, especially the keyboard that enable BBm to function fluidly. All the disgruntle BB haters and fan-boys of Iphone and Droid just knocking BB because they are just envy or immature (gamerz and porn watchers lol) or else they would just shut up about how happy they are with their toy. The bottom line if you want to listen to music on the go get something portable like a Nano. If you want to watch good quality movie or play a real game, you watch/play on a big screen. Smart phone are for mature individual trying to get work done on the go so they can spend more time with their family.

I can’t wait for this phone! Enjoyed my iPhone, but the only reason I left was for the browser..I will come back now

    I can’t stand Android nerd phones…

  • Gazza

Can’t wait for it to hit Australia. Just hope it’s not restricted to Voda.

  • Apocalypse

Wow!! all the positive articulate responses.

The BB experience isn’t for everyone, but its for me.

  • John

I LOVE BlackBerry. Can’t wait to get this phone!!!

  • scott

If the phone comes to fido as well as rogers then I’ll get one.

  • SVELTE

Even if some operators offer it too, I’d stick with Telus.
