Microsoft dropping record number of bulletins on "Patch Tuesday"

General

This coming Tuesday — August 10 — Microsoft will release a company record fourteen security bulletins to plug thirty-four vulnerabilities. Angela Gunn, a member of Microsoft’s Response Communications team, wrote: “For those who keep track of such things, this will be the most bulletins we have ever released in a month; we have released 13 bulletins on a couple of occasions. However, in total CVE count, this release ties with June 2010, so there’s no new record there.” Of the fourteen bulletins, eight are listed as critical and six are rated as important. Make sure to run your Windows Updates next Tuesday to get all the goodies.

you’re right, they should much rather do nothing and not come out with these updates at all

    Time for Windows 7 SP1!

This will get the iFanboys cackling, until they realize that their stuff goes unpatched for months..or longer.
Zero day day PDF bugs anyone? What’s that ? Apple wrote their own PDF viewer because Adore is too buggy ?

    This is totally ridonkulous!

Good for MicroSoft. I for one anticipate and look forward to receiving security bulletins from MicroSoft for Windows 7. By the way, acccording to independent internet research firms, Internet Explorer 8 is the MOST secure internet browser available in 2010 – more so than Mozilla Firefox & Apple’s Safari. MicroSoft have finally rendered IE 8 into a competive browser.

IE 8 most secure? Actually, there’s a catch to it. I was reading an article that explained it, I’ll try to dig it up. Conclusion is that Firefox and Chrome are the most secure.

Its like someone woke the sleeping giant…Bout frakkin time too.

Windows Ultimate? Really? I thought only about 12 people bought that edition.

    • rederikus

People in companies who wish to log in to their servers use Ultimate.

At least Microsoft TRY to plug leaks.

CrApple just leaves their systems wide open. They do this because nobody can be bothered to invade an Apple computer. The user filing system is such a mess that the hackers can’t find anything.

Wow a company that actually fixes bugs/issues/ vulnerabilities? Apple take note!

No wonder they call it the most secure OS. They prefer irony in their communications.

Microsoft has been having some pretty heavy patch Tuesdays and quite a few out of band patches. Not sure why all of a sudden Microsoft is so patch crazy they never were in the past. I think it’s a good thing.

  • Bill

Doesn’t it seem like a little more than a coincidence that such an announcement so closely follows DEF-CON/Black Hat?

“Make sure to run your Windows Updates next Tuesday to get all the goodies.”

Not very wise advice given that many patches. I’d advise you to wait a week or so to ensure there aren’t patches to the patches.
