Who is Nokia again? It’s been too long…

I only have one question: when are they going to give up on Meego and join Android?! Alternatives are fine, like Symbian, but really why does Linux spawn so many derivatives – if you want to make a great linux-based mobile OS then work together or Apple will always kick your ass all over the playing field!!!

      EXCEEDS CHARACTER LIMIT!!!1!111!1! EXCEEDS!!!1!111!1!

Yeah, it sure is a pain to read two sentences.

you clearly have no idea why linux is what it is

    • Andre

Because Qt and a true linux are better and more powerful than the VM loaded android. That and the things that make android tolerable are google owned and closed source.

Savander?? R U Kidding? He used run Nokia’s software platform biz……Symbian, Maemo, etc…..it was an abortion. Now he got “promoted” to head sales and marketing. This guy said he was going to catch up to iphone 2 years ago!

Not sure I’d take what he says with much credibility.

Credibility? Shore up those grammar/typing skills, then we can talk about credibility.

      • TK SF

yeah like ur typing with all CAPS LOCK and !!!!!. that’s great grammar/typing skills. ffs its the internet and this is a stupid comments section on a blog. who gives a shit.

    How about
“Why has Nokia ignored partnering with US carriers on smartphones for so long?”

    • Drew

I read an article on it awhile ago… They think all Americans are “too aggressive” and arrogant (read: Steve Jobs is an Asshole). So yeah, thanks Steve…

Android doesn’t really solve Nokia’s problem. Nokia moves a ton of handsets; it just doesn’t make any real money. Android would be the cure for a company that can’t move sets, as Android folks will buy pretty much anything. But Nokia is already selling handsets.

Add to this the fact that there are plenty of Android manufacturers already; it’s already to the point here in the U.S. that each Android phone sells fewer than the one before (which has been the trend since the original Droid,). WIth no indication yet that the Evo 4G or the Droid X has even reached a million units, there’s no reason to believe this decelerating sales trend won’t continue, as it is a byproduct of releasing a large number of devices in a short time.

But Nokia, above all others, has the know-how to build truly lustworthy HARDWARE. Android and Nokia’s top flight hardware design/build quality would be major. Especially if they retain their vaunted voice quality and RF.

    My only question to Niklas–

What have you done to deserve your new job?

  • Jouten

    I’ve said it before…

If Nokia could build a phone with their design, using Samsung’s internal hardware (processor/VG accel/RAM) along with a either a Super AMOLED or Apple’s IPS screen, and fine tune/polish up their MeeGo OS; they would have a perfect phone.

  • Drew

The hierarchy at Nokia is insanely incompetent. Unqualified people and dinosaurs with no vision. The CDO (Chief Design Officer) is second in charge behind the CEO and is responsible for the vision, mission, innovation, user/consumer experience, design solutions…etc, etc..

The problem is none of these people stay very long…. They put projects on the table and move on to something else. Sort of like Maemo 5 and then almost finished with Maemo 6 and then they dump it for Meego.

  • Mr. Bill

If they are planning on coming to N/A again, I would ask similar to whats been said.

When are they going to combine their hardware with say Android or WP7, Or I might just say, that’s when you might get my interest in a sale.

Other then that, Nokia who again exactly?
Right, the no1 chosen phone that is strapped to more explosives then any other, Nokia, right got it.

I have a couple of good questions for Niklas:

-I understand you move a lot of handsets around the world, but here in the U.S. your company has no product presence at all. Explain to me the motivation why I as a smartphone shopper should buy a Nokia phone.

-Does your application store contain anything that’s relevant to a U.S. audience? Last time I checked, I didn’t find any apps for Dropbox, Evernote, Kindle or Foursquare. The only Twitter client of note was Gravity…for $10. The only sports app was ESPN British Soccer. Seriously, what?

All that doesn’t matter anymore. They have Angry Birds now, that is all.

  • NYT Journo

Yes, Mr. Savander, how does your country get those holes in the cheese?
