Motorola DROID 2 spotted in the wild, photographed

General

Come on Verizon, we know you want to release this phone… The Motorola DROID 2 has got to be around the corner. The device has training materials, has been benchmarked, and for the umpteenth million time seen in the wild. Today’s images come courtesy of user KA7EII from Howard Forums. The device is looking pretty nice. How many of you DROID 1 owners are planning on updating? Hit the jump for one more picture.

I know this phone will appeal to a lot of people but was I the only one hoping that the follow up to the most successful Android phone ever would be an equally compelling device? The Droid was at the top of the class when it was released and now the Droid 2 isn’t even the most powerful Android phone on Verizon.

    Current Droid Does:

    -1Ghz OCed.
    -Custom Roms
    -Froyo

    Droid 2:
    -Locked Bootloader
-We get Root, perhaps we get to over clock
-No Custom Roms and have to wait for Motorola Upgrades

If you already own a Droid, no point in upgrading.
If you are thinking about getting a Droid, you can get a Droid 1 for real cheap, root it, slap a modded Froyo on it and use the spare cash for other needs.

Alternatively you wait for the HTC Snapdragon Android Qwerty or get a Samsung Epic.

    Locked Bootloader = FAIL.

WTF are u guys talking about? Some of you have rooted droids and this upgrade isn’t worth it for you but you must remember there’s a world that exist outside they hacker realm. This will be a great replacement.

I couldn’t deal with the crappy keyboard on the D1. This one looks a lot nicer, so I’m going to give it a try. I’m sick of all the glitches in my TP2.

I have yet to see this phone in person. But honestly, it looks so fugly in the pictures; so bland.

My keyboard issue is that the number keys should be primary function keys. Hoping the screen is 4.3 inch (have not seen any size info) and that Quality Assurance is better than on the Droid X.

A closer inspection of the comparison pictures of models 1 and 2 reveals another issue. These seem to imply the key spacings are the same (too small). Moto needs an attitude adjustment regarding adequate key spacing.

      • Just look at the photo

I hardly doubt that the screen is going to be 4.3″. From the above picture it seems to be the same size as the original Droid.

Someone should start a petition for Moto to unlock the bootloader.

I would upgrade for the simple fact of the added speed (speaking from a non FroYo standpoint) a friend of mine has a Droid X and it screams but that “Ninja Blur” or whatever its called is TERRIBLE!!!!!!!! Hopefully this will be coming with stock Android like my beloved Droid.
