Dropbox launches a limited beta version for the BlackBerry

General

Popular online storage solution Dropbox has just launched its BlackBerry client as a limted beta. The app, compatible with OS 5.0 devices, already was gobbled up by the 500 user slots for testing. Those that snagged a copy are reporting that the application is similar to the Android and iPhone client, but is still missing some key features like the ability to upload non-picture files, the ability to delete/move files, and the ability to manage folders. BlackBerry owners that are interested in the beta should keep checking the beta site as additional slots are apparently being added to meet this initial demand. If you manage to get in on the beta, hit us up in the comments with your first impressions.

    Downloaded it yesterday works great!

Some commenter over at Crackberry posted a link to download the app. It installed no problem but Dropbox doesn’t seem to like my username/pw. I’m guessing since I’m not on the official beta list I can’t login from my BB.

Everything on a Blackberry is limited: hardware, software, apps and all. Therefore, calling a Blackberry beta “limited” is redundant.

No one cares about your stupid crap Android phones.

I love, absolutely love Dropbox. The only thing I wish is that they had an unlimited storage option. Right now, I am topped at 100GB and can’t get enough of this amazingly simple and useful tool!!!!!! I am starting a Facebook group asking Dropbox to either give us an unlimited option or increase storage past the 100GB.

I doubt you’ll ever see an “unlimited” option for any storage service unless it’s a web server and then they’ll limit the types of files you can put up on their server(s).

I was lucky enough to see the CrackBerry post on twitter right after it posted, I grabbed it and downloaded it right away. I must say I am quite impressed. The application is quite fast and has some fantastic features like uploading photos to your box as well as streaming audio or video files from your box. One of my favorite BlackBerry Apps already!

Nice to see a version for a device that doesn’t have the broken, fragmented Android OS.

Yeah, it takes a little intelligence to operate Android properly…clearly it’s not for everyone…

ya even phones that haven’t progressed in the last five years could use this. Next they should make this compatible with Sega Genesis consoles

does it work on android ?

  • Mm

Dropbox is a great example of how iOS simply devourers Android/BB in terms of app quality.

It may be harsh, but its the truth.

precisely why i’m getting the iOS 4 iPod Touch next month (presumably) but not compromising the superior Evo/Froyo combo for my phone:)

As much as it pains me to say it, you’re absolutely right. While I haven’t used the android app yet, but the ios version makes having to log into dropbox via the web so unnecessary that I wouldn’t accept anything less from the other platforms.

I’m running it on an iPod Touch right now with no issues what so ever

The UbiVia App by sComm will be a top 5 App for Blackberries when it comes out.

I tried to grab a slot but was too late. I already use the iPhone version and it’s very useful. I’m trying to manage with the 2gb they give you for free but I know I’ll get past that really soon.
