Simple fix for iOS 4 sluggish performance?

Rumor

On Thursday, the Wall Street Journal reported that Apple was investigating the sluggish performance of iOS 4 on the iPhone 3G. While Apple is beginning an investigation, a reader over at Neowin was hands on with an iPhone and may have stumbled upon a quick fix. The problem is apparently remedied by turning off all the spotlight search options within Settings->General->Home Button->Spotlight Search. Though this may be a temporary band-aid, it may be enough to hold you over until Apple determines a root cause and issues a fix. If anyone gives it a try, let us know your results in the comments. Planned obsolescence.

Who says this isn’t unfolding exactly as they want(ed) it to.

Sales of the new iphone4 are out of this world, why aren’t you holding one instead of that older so much lesser phone?

After all, it has wifis an is available at walgreens.

Time to be sheared, line up like good sheep now.

Haha… I like Mr. Bill’s comment about “line up good sheep now” … wonder if he typed that from his manufactured computer while sitting in his manufactured chair while using energy from a power company wearing clothes manufactured for profit by a business. Hmm… who’s the sheep Mr. Bill?

switched off spotlight and pretty much back to the old speed. perfect!

It seems to be running a little better after shutting everything off but it’s no where near the speed it used to be before iOS4 update.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.

    AFTER TURNING SPOTLIGHT SEARCH OFF:
My music and podcasts no longer stutter during pause and skip. Seems to be little bit faster but it’s hard to tell.

Changed the settings, as indicated and restarted, followed by s hard-reset of the device. While it seems to be a tiny bit faster (very subjective) .. the 3G is still pretty kludgy under iOS4 (at least for me).

This is absolutely great!! Thanks a ton for your help reviving back my phone… It had become almost impossible to make calls , listen to music or just randomely browse apps in the phone without getting annoyed or frustated by the delays and crashes.. All of that got fixed immediately after turning spotlight features off.. didnt even have to reboot!!
Kudos and keep up the good work! :)
