Facebook launches question and answer application

General

Who needs Jeeves when you have Facebook! Facebook just launched a new question and answer application that will allow you to pose questions to its sea of over 500 million users. As Facebook explains, “With this new application, you can get a broader set of answers and learn valuable information from people knowledgeable on a range of topics.” You can pose questions about potential vacation spots, future gadget recommendations, or pretty much anything you want. Facebook does warn: “Keep in mind that all questions and answers posted using the Questions application are public and visible to everyone on the Internet. If you only want to ask a question to your friends or a specific group of people, you can still pose it as a status update on your profile targeted to those people.” There you have it. Thoughts?Read

This will probably be a big hit – yahoo answers is quite good and the audience is smaller than facebook. However, I do think they need to implement a point system like yahoo answers to incentivise people to answer questions. Maybe contests for those with the most points in each category with real prizes? I know yahoo doesn’t do that but to get the community going it work.

I wouldn’t use it only because I don’t want people to know my personal life. With yahoo you can ask and if you get some nut case you can never go back to the page but with facebook you mite get a stalker. Lol

Facebook definitely has been better at expanding its features and capabilities over Myspace.

I cant see how this could possibly work. Just look at the rediculous comments on Apple products by Android people and visa versa. None of these people can provide a common sense reason for their hatred – so their comments or votes would be useless. This would also apply to a host of other products. I think this will just be a waste opf time and energy.

Hopefully this doesn’t turn into another formspring type thing… So long as there is no anonymous choice, it should be a useful application.

I think this a great idea. I like answering questions.
