Samsung Galaxy S to get Android 2.2 in September

General

Samsung’s official UK arm confirmed via twitter that the mobile manufacturer is working on an Android 2.2 update for its Galaxy S handset. The update will hit the Galaxy S in September and will be deployed across all wireless networks in the UK. No word on when this highly anticipated update will hit the Captivate,Vibrant, and other Galaxy S variants outside of the UK. Fingers crossed that it lands sooner, rather than later as we all can’t wait to get Flash on our phones.

Read: Never. Learn a lesson from those on Teen Mobile that never got their super special Samsung update.

My thoughts exactly. Samsung promised IN a video on YouTube, then PULLED said video when people started asking questions.
      Sorry Sammy, fool me once…

YES! I’ve marked Sept. 20 as the date, as that’s when late september starts. I’m gonna need to buy a new red Sharpie to last ’til then.

Lets hope they fix the GPS issues way before that. can’t believe more media outlets are not talking about it.

So much to fix on a broken, flawed OS. How many more .2 .3 .4 revisions do they have to release before the damn Android devices actually work as…um, you know, phones?

I pay more for my phone calling plan than my data. And my Incredible can’t locate my contacts and the audio goes out half the time on the calls. Thinking about reactivating the LG8300, a phone that actually WORKS!

      Noob.

Sweet! Almost two full months after HTC’s Android phones will be getting Sense upgrades.

The Epic 4G just dropped numerous pegs on my interest list.

Alpha/Beta Froyo ROM for SGS is out…
but I’m hesitated to flash it for day to day use. I doubt I can wait till the official release arrives tho… maybe I’ll try the next few builds.

I just returned my At&t Captivate tonight.
Sad since it has potential but come on.

    GPS not working
Crappy email client (bad subfolder support, can’t move email to other subfolder, exchange sync slow).
Battery life has to be managed more closely than my 2 year old (love that screen with moving wallpapers, but I need to run a black wallpaper to make the battery last all day? Sux)

Bought another iPhone 4 and not looking back.
    I gave android/Captivate a week so can’t say I didn’t try.

I love the widgets and the screen size.
I think Captivate is best compromise in screen size.
It was pretty quick but it lagged sometimes and the touch buttons need to be physical buttons, they react too slow.

Android is cool on how it’s so customizable. But All I was doing was customizing. I maybe needed more time with the device but my work email comes first and this device can’t handle corporate email well.

GPS not working: simple settings fix, not an issue

Crappy email client: nothing new to Android phones, just buy TouchDown, hands-down the best Android Exchange mail app available

Battery life: no experience from which to comment, but I struggle to get a day out of my Eris, so this is nothing new; live wallpapers are stupid, useless battery hogs, that’s nothing new

Touch buttons: the Droid, Droid Eris, Incredible, and EVO all have capacitive touch buttons, and nobody seems to have any major complaints about them; again, this is nothing new, and seems to be the trend for Android phones on all carriers nowadays

Oh, and I can’t wait to get my hands on a Samsung Fascinate, the Galaxy S phone on Verizon. The only major negative in my opinion so far is the fact that there isn’t a trackball or optical touchpad. I fear my favorite games won’t work well without my trusty trackball on my Eris, but I’m sure in time I’ll get used to it. It seems that almost all the new Android phones are doing with with these forms of input, and solely using the touchscreens, so sooner or later I’ll be forced into it anyway.

Jesus…. Did you really think you could escape from Jobs and the iPhone 4 that easily? Think again my friend. Jobs has planted the iBug in your skull to make you think you have to have the iPhone.. I was a puppet like you once, that’s all changed thanks to the Captivate..

I own a Samsung captivate, and I have to say…I loved it, the screen, the look, all of it…until gps locking started crapping out, and my e-mail wouldn’t reliably update, and the battery wouldn’t maintain a decent charge, and i found out AT&T had the FM radio tuner disabled, and I saw all the AT&T bloatware in the software, and I noticed that actual Galaxy S phones (European Phones) have a front facing camera, as opposed to the crippled, stripped down version that AT&T provides. I may not go back to an iPhone, but this phone will definitely not make it past the 30 day return policy. Oh did I forget to mention that this phone is susceptible to the death grip..watch how you hold it, because you will lose signal if you don’t! I gave Samsung and AT&T a try, and they definitely disappointed me.
