Rogers says me too, will offer 6 GB data plan, can share with iPad

General

Yesterday, we broke news about Bell Canada’s plans to offer a $30 per month 6 GB smartphone data plan that permits iPad users to share their 6 GB monthly data bucket with their iPad for an additional $10 fee. Today, on the eve of the iPhone 4 launch, Rogers Wireless is following suit. Rogers customers will be able to purchase a $30 per month 6 GB data bucket as long as you sign a new 3-year contract. The iPad sharing option is explained like this:

Starting July 30, and for a limited time until Sept. 30, customers on a 6 GB plan will be able to share data between iPhones and iPads for an extra $20 (plus Government Regulatory Recovery Fee). For details, visit a Rogers retail location.

Not quite as cheep as Bell’s offering… but there you have it. What do you say Canadian friends? Sound off!

How is this getting ripped off? You get 6 GB shared across two devices. Here in the good ol’ US of A you’re going to spend the same for 4 GB… and if you sign with Bell you get it for $10 cheaper.

It’s not great, but it’s not out of the ordinary…

      • Baester

ya but they live in canada not america so it’s an automatic rip off, irregardless of price. USA!

    • CMC

How do you figure? ATT offers 2 gigs for $25 for one device. Bell offers 6 gigs for $30 for two devices.

Nothing good happening here in Canada when it comes to technology.
These two crap companies battle to see who can rip us off the most. The only company that tries to keep pricing in line is Telus. However, they have such a crappy service offering who want to move to them. Nothing good I say. We constantly take it up the hoop, and I dont know what we can do to fix it.
    HELP

You get better data pricing than in the US at least. Unfortunately when the two big US companies battle with each other, it’s by decreasing services and options. They instituted data caps, increased ETFs, and priced-fixed plans all near the same time.

There is no government recovery fee. They told me themselves. Still suckering me for system access fee and 911 fee. Bell doesn’t charge either. Slimeballs to the end. Nickel and dimming loyal customers. Killed my home phone with them. Tomorrow I get a new iPhone from bell and say goodbye to another service Rogers has been soaking me for. Cableis next. Lousy greedy bastards.

6 GB for $30 plus only $10 to share with iPad = AT&T Fail.

    • AppleSucksDROIDRULES

That is the major lesson here. At&t sucks balls.

      • CMC

They suck ASS. Sucking balls is not so bad ;)

        LMAO

  • Dave

Yay… Robbers does it again. “Let’s wait until the other two put out their pricing and we’ll charge more!”. WTF?
The telcos have such a complete monopoly in Canada they could care less about the consumer. Deregulation is the only way to finally kill these ridiculous rates, but that’s only a pipe dream. It will never happen in Canada….

    rrrrrrrrrripoff.

Comparable service from ATT is $85

  • Steel

Tell you what, how about if I use that 6gb i’d be paying for any way, and on any device, i please? And for no additional charge.

    Is that so unreasonable?

    • Baester

      very reasonable.

  • meade

For that xtra $30/month do at least get another sim, or do i have to buy that myself?

  • Jordan

how can they distinguish between using your iphone 4 micro sim and an ipad microsim? couldn’t you just switch the sim between devices and save $20?

  • Dara

I’ve been waiting for them to offer the 6GB plan again, they only offer it when a new iPhone comes out.

I’m month to month for data (500 MB for $25) but I might consider the three year option since they are probably not going to come out with any reasonable mid range data plans in the near future. Maybe I’ll just threaten them with cancellation and see where it gets me.

The sharing fee is fine with me, I would never pay it.

My phone has been able to share 3G over wifi for years and my next one will too. In fact, most of my favorite features of my phone are directly related to how much revenue they deny Rogers.

  • Dave

Why the hell does someone have to pay and additional amount on top of the data plan they are already paying for?

If I bought 6Gb of data to use over a 3g device, I do not see why I need to pay again for the same damn data.

  • Tdot34

Don’t worry folks, TELUS will follow suit soon. All is well in the Canadian Wireless Oligopoly.

What’s up with this September 30 date.?

  • Chris

Welcome to the Socialist Republic of Canada.

      see offday’s comment below.

i CANNOT stand all these tiered data pricing plans. i will NEVER go to a provider, no matter how good the service, that has a business model like this. i already enough stress in my life without worrying if i’ve streamed too many movies or played too many games online. INSANITY!

    • Baester

i liked readying Chris’ comment then this one. One of you is wrong.

  • Joost

Rogers always offered the 6GB plan when a new iPhone was released. Bell is just copying, although the iPad add-on is much cheaper.
