Nintendo to unveil 3DS launch details on September 29th

Gaming

Nintendo confirmed on Thursday that it is holding an event to announce the details of a new product on September 29th. This centerpiece product for this upcoming event is most likely the Nintendo 3DS, a 3-D portable gaming device unveiled by Nintendo earlier this year. If this supposition pans out, then we can expect Nintendo to announce the official launch date, launch markets, and pricing for this novel gaming device. Folks trying to adjust their budget to accommodate a purchase of the 3DS would be wise to consider the words of James Honeywell, Nintendo’s marketing manager, who hinted to Electric Pig that the 3DS will fall somewhere within the current DS pricing architecture. With the DSi available for £129.99 ($203 USD) and the larger DSi XL for £159.99 ($249 USD), we would expect the 3DS to hit that sweet spot between $200 and $250. Anyone looking to score a 3DS when it becomes available later this year?

anyone really excited for this? Kinda just fine with my DSi. seems like a waste and a reason to port old titles.

Um, YEAH. I’m sorry, but because YOU have a DSi means no one should go out and buy new Gameboys? What are you talking about??

On a more sensible note… PSP killed portable gaming for me (hated that thing, HATED it), I had given away my old DS prior to the PSP and nothing on any cellphone (iPhone included) has impressed me… I HATE the 3D movement as well… but yet I’m chomping at the bit to get the 3DS… so yes, I’m extremely excited. And even if it the 3D turns out to be gimmick-y… its still a damn DS and I don’t already own one, so I still fail to see how this is a waste.

    November 14th for $199.99

      I think its gonna be around $275 – $325

a portable 3D device it has to be expensive

you really think they will sell many at that price point? my guess is also $199.99… +30 compared to DSi’s msrp

I do not know why they can not convert their DS into a DS eBook. iPad, Kindle etc are not a replacement of book to me, and eBook needs to be like Nintendo DS and I should be able to hold the middle with my thumb like I hold my pocket book.

3d is an over rated fad, that companies are trying to force on us. good in very small doses but not all the time

Typically I agree, but the 3DS is the one thing I’ll make an exception for. And no, I am no Nintendo fanboy (I don’t own any Nintendo consoles at all).

But everything else… 3D monitors, going to see movies at the theater in 3D… all that crap can lick my left nut. It sucks.

So when do you think you, a 3DS fanboy, should die?

I’ll buy one. Play it for 2 months then let it sit. Just like my wii.

Not sure about the pricing listed above. I’ve seen plenty of places where you can score either current model of DS for less than $200. I’m with Mykie, $199 sounds about right.

I’m excited!! I’m gettin on of these ASAP. Screw you 3D glasses!

  • indeed

No way in hell I’d pay $275 for a Nintendo handheld.

I don’t like the sharp angles that the 3DS looks like.

That Konno guy pretty much said to not expect the 3DS’s shape to change – making it pretty final. What’s with those polygonal parts on the hinge shoulders?

Is it just me or does this thing look really big? How does the 3DS compare to a DSi XL or DSi in dimensions?

My only concern is, how long before they update the 3DS? I only held out on getting a DSi cuz I just had a feeling some kind of upgrade was on the horizon. And here you have it!

However, I may just take the plunge anyway. This seems like enough of an upgrade from the DSi that I won’t feel too much like a chump when they come out with the 3DSLITEiXL

I’m getting a 3DS. My original screen is half broken so I’ll be getting my NEW 3DS when it comes out. I can’t wait!
